If I have to equip them then /signed. I have to pay for all of them I should get their money. I see no reason for *me* (one of those casual gamers that anet talks about) getting the shaft because I don't have hours and hours to farm. It's already hard to keep up with runes, weapons, and armor for new characters, let alone if I need to outfit 7 additional ones (or, heaven forbid, 7 new ones per character). It would make it where I can not experiment in the least.
If they keep their drops (and get the gold/choose from them) then not signed. If they have decent weapons/armor and I can choose to give them something else then not (their initial choce must be decent though - no X levels below outside drops or anything). Especially if it is like PvP where you get to choose unlocked weapons, mods, and armors then most definatly not signed.
I'll wait until I see what they do to make my decision. I'm VERY happy to have customizable henchman even if I have to pay through the nose. I trust them not to screw it up too badly so I will wait before I full on flame (actually I trust them to do at least a decent job - it's really hard to get something most will be happy with and that is what they have to do, even if it doesn't make this particular person happy).

While I'm all in favor of expanding from solo-farming as the only viable means to make money, I'm not sure that this is the proper solution.
Good effort though!

1) Totally unbalances other campaigns by making it far easier to farm for gold.
2) Totally pushes people towards NOT partying with other people.
3) Totally wrong to say they 'steal' drops. Henchies and heroes should get their fair share for helping you out and not give up everything to you like a slave.

what would be the point. they are party members all the same and as such should get a cut of the drops as any party members would. if you want everything to yourself, you should have to do all the work for it.
imo.

If you want ALL the drops, play SOLO.
Having the help of 3 (or even 7) NPCs should come at a cost.

Heroes have mouths to feed, armor to up keep, and weapons to keep sharp.

Sigh. For the sake of this argument, can we please stop comparing Henchies to Heros?
We don't have to equip Henchies. We may have to equip Heros.
And if we do, I don't want to have to solo farm to get them all the stuff they need (but hopefully, Anet already has a solution for this in mind!)
Hell, I don't want to farm, period, whether it's by myself, with henchies, or with 3 heros (the max number of Heros you can have with you).

The drop system is designed to reward you for difficulty. Fight with less people on your side and your effective drop rate is higher. Bringing heroes along makes combat easier -- just like bringing other players or henchies. Thus your effective drop rate should go down. But if Heroes collect loot that you are then able to take then this balance is broken.
If, however, any loot the hero gets is customized to the hero then yes it would be good. It would satisfy your desire to have the hero "pay his way" and equip himself from loot and also satisfy other people's desire to keep the drop system balanced. It would kinda cool (and heart-wrenching) to see your hero tricked out in a perfect fellblade that fell for him instead of you. lol

actually heros will take their cut as usual since they are using a character slot same as you same as hench.
so get used to it.
i say since they are better than the regular hench they should get double drops because i can guarantee they wont come free as farmers little helper

I'm guessing this is how it'll work.
Or maybe they keep their drops, you get to do their shopping for them, but you can't transfer stuff from them to you.
Or else the heroes' drops just disappear and you have to pay out of pocket to equip them. Seems unfair, but the game needs money sinks.
The one thing I'm sure they won't do is just let you have all of their drops. Spend a few K to outfit 3 heroes with the basics once, then be able to do 4-man "solo" farming forever? Not gonna happen.
