New to Nightfall: Forced Farming?
I finally managed to amass materials for my new Dervish armor (without storage), but now I find myself unable to continue past the Astrarium, where the overpowered level 8 mobs slaughter my party. (They do heavy damage to me even with over 60 total armor...WTF?) I have no more quests in the easier area to get experience or promotion points, so all that's left for me to continue is mindless grind against enemies to farm exp and points.
...thanks a lot, ANet.

I went through it in 10 AL with a 40 al collectors chest.
set yer monk and war up well and it's gg.
running yer heroe's bar for them > them doing it. it's not hard to do your role and theirs at the same time vs lvl 13 mobs.

actually, it has been a bit harder than expected, the undead at the second mission, while i was lvl 8, as well as heroes, the undead where lvl 10, and the group of 3 undead would take down at least one of my heroes down, and if there were two undead casting cold swarm, then two heroes would go down.
its a bit harder than before... but i was able to finish this mission (woot for the smiting leroy heroe who would run off to smite undead at the other side of the room monk )

Though I died a lot in the preview event (I really don't care about deaths as long as I can still continue on), I honestly didn't find it that hard. There are a LOT of quests, and if you honestly are having trouble with different areas because of your level then maybe you just haven't found all the quests that you can do at this point. Like Factions, it is the key to leveling, not mindlessly fighting mob after mob after mob after mob...
There's only been two times when I was a bit taken back by the difficulty in the preview, and both were from quests. One was where you have to kill 26 Harpy Hatchlings, and in the process lvl 14 Harpy Mothers spawn, and the other is where you have to defend this monument as wave after wave of skale from lvl 4 to 14 come at you. But after doing some quests and leveling, those ended up being easy too. I even took down a lvl 24 mob easily with my Heroes, but he really was a pushover anyways.

I haven't had a problem. Just following quests and missions. Had to farm just a little bit to get my Sunspear faction.

... you people complaining started off playing factions didnt you???I LOVE how ive been playing for 5 hours and am not lvl 20. it reminds me MUCH MORE of prophesies. and its not really mindless grinding its just difficult.its not even EXTREMELY difficult, its just more difficult with factions. which i might add isnt really saying much. Im siked and i think if you cant handle leveling the old fashion way then maybe we dont want your n00b butt playing nightfall.

I think the pacing is perfect so far.
Not too fast, not too slow.
Do the quests and you'll level up in no time. Skip stuff and well...good luck.

Apart from one very hard quest, the NF leveling works alright for me. However I don't like the farming you are forced to do for the sunspear title, which is required to continue the storyline. See this thread for more info on that.

You don't need to farm for the title if you talk to the sunspear scouts every time you walk by a rez shrine. You'll just naturally be where you need title-wise as you need it.
I'm level 9 and past the "trials" part (I was seven during the trials and that deadly swarm never killed me). I'm still in starter armor, and so far I've only died once, only because I afked in a dangerous area.
Like someone said, the trick is to properly set up you heroes knowing how henchmen work. Give you warrior tanking skills and make sure to micro him so he leads, set you monk on passive, or micro him so he runs from enemies. Stack all of your heroes with interrupts, because they're godly with them. I've got my mesmer interrupts stacked on both my dervish and monk, and it works great.

true story: lower area of island, that Issnur place after Berhur dock whatever. I started having some problems. running a Paragon with monk, warrior and dervish heroes, I wiped twice. These were my first team wipes so I figured that the game was just starting to step up.
Beat through the area to get my quests done and zoned to the next town, only to smack my head.
"No wonder why it was so hard," I realise. "If this town gives you 8 man groups, then I must have missed the first 6-man groups in Berhur."
Those whove made it to berhur, know how wrong I was thinking that...
Quest people. Get your heroes and pwn stuff.

I'm currently level six, with no way to level up or get more promotion points besides pointless grind. So basically, I'm stuck at the Astralarium forever. I always nearly die (and my healer henchman always does die) against the severely overpowered level 8 mobs outside it. Is there a guide to the quests of this event so I can see what I missed?

'We' probably would all be glad to be at least lvl 10-15 to reach the mainland where we with no doubt will meet more mean mobs.
And I really hope the doors/gates are closed again to prevent "running to xxxx for 1000k".
I don't really like rushing through the game anyway, just do some exploring perhaps you meet some more quests on ur way as well.

I wouldn't bother with Astralarium until getting bit better armor, just head out to Champion's Dawn, take the quests there, and head west to Jokanur Diggings, where the armor crafter is. There also is couple of easy collectors that give out the armor. (And don't bother with the Monument quest midway to Jokanur yet, it's rather hard for lower levels)

60AL? Isn't 30AL the maximum in the preview?

No, from what I've gathered from all the outposts I've visited, Paragons can get up to 65 AL and Dervishes can get up to 55AL armor on the island.
