If anything moves this game away from the stupidity of people paying 60-70 thousand gold for a difference of 1% on a weapon or mod, I can only see as being good.

It's almost like buying a Rolex. How much should it cost to tell the time of day?

Hm , I can't really understand why Anet would want to do this to the value of gold . I mean sure no more bots , ebay and etc but I figure ALOT of people will loose interest. What's left to work for after beating the game? You have nothing left to work towards . Honestly I beat Prophecies and Factions , what did I do after that? Just farm to work on getting some things I wanted and it took me a while thus keeping me interested in GW . That's all I do now I guess until Nightfall comes out , just work towards items and armor i'd like to obtain . If everything is going to become , not to say for sure it is but likely to become easy to get I can't see my interest lasting that long in GW anymore..
It's no fun seeing people run around with the same stuff as you and to add to that there will be x10 more people in your groups running around with the same stuff as you .
Sure theres pvp and getting your titles and stuff like that but I don't think its enough in my opinion .

I love how people say this will be the end of the game, there will be no one to play with. Other than 3-4 man farming groups in some areas (and exception of the 12 man deep / warren, which is almost ALWAYS empty accept a few times during the day in international ----open this to all already ANET-----), what exactly are we losing? People who weren't contributing to playing the game with others anyway. If I don't have to run around trying to get that perfect Zodiac Shield cause I can MOD one, then you know what? I'm more likely to just log on and help someone out on a misssion, etc., and PLAY THE GAME for true enjoyment.
Those of you who think this is a bad thing, don't let the door hit ya on the way out cause you're wasting space and spamming up trade channels like maniacs being pests anyway (the only time we even know you're on). The rest of us will enjoy the fact we can actually get weapons as good or better than collector / crafted, especially in shields / wands / staffs in the skins we want for once without insane amounts of time that doesn't really help the game.
Think about Nightfall. Even from release it was almost impossible getting groups for missions cause everyone was out farming for whatever green / etc. had just been discovered to cash in. I see a correction to that with this change, and if that means we lose some people, whoopty doo. I think ANET just made more friends of those frustrated with trying to get things they want who will stick around to play then with those who are upset their online empire crumbled.

Personally I like looking out for those rare, perfect weapons and thinking "wow! this is going to make me rich! ). I dont farm per-se, but I do the Deep more often than I would if I wasn't looking for a nice zodiac weapon.
The inscription change (as much as it is speculated to be) cannot be in order to 'level the playing field' in terms of items as they are easily obtainable through collectors.
It also wont eliminate gold farming because gold will still be needed for skills and armour. For the casual gamer, who may get lucky in getting and selling a perfect item for 100k in order to buy skills and armour; that gamer will now need to go out and farm that same amount of money instead.

I think it will be great.I could care less if someone has a crystal sword or a staff of Oo Look At Me.If that is your thing more power to you.I like the idea of being able to choose your mod when you salvage.
I dont see people loseing interest.Shoot more will be actually playing instead of trying to get affordable equipment.
Just a note I been in a few guilds and folks except for a few dont have much in the way of gold.Alot were under 30k.

If the market disappeared over night it would not bother me... If anything I want rid of trade completely and have every item either crafted, collector or drops... Period... that dam trade button is the worst thing in the game.
Maybe, MAYBE!!! the auction house will change my opinion of the market... But I doubt it... the AH concept will add a new level of regulation beyond the screwy NPCs that is easily manipulated...
Thankfully after a LONG time of education of the new people coming into the game prices dropped to under 100K items some time back... which all the inflators were furious over... But I didn't care. If My selling Runes and Ecto at NPCs for a loss makes the market correct itself so much the better.
Now the demand is so low for most stuff Prices are actually attainable for even the newest of people to the game. But there are still a few rare exceptions. and that's OK, Most people only want it for Vanity reasons anyway.... and if they have the gold to WASTE, so be it...
But the rest of us typically just go to a collector get the equivalent thing for a few gold pieces and some material, and off we go laughing at these fools wasting their gold.
What Anet is doing is the least disruptive thing they can do...
Other things they could do is
make a fixed value system on all NPCs (I only wish)
Make a mod trader NPC to list fair mod values.
Make trades fixed so its not possible to pay more then the item is worth...
Add the auction house early... instead of with nightfall.
Eliminate gold from the game and have purchases based on merit.
So in hindsight you can see that the new salvage system is a minimal thing. just be glad they didn't do something more drastic. I know I would have.

I have already stated my opinion in other threads, but we should all keep in mind one thing...it isn't about the items or the weapons, it IS about giving some players something to do once they have finished the game. The reason there is no one around to do missions is simply because GW is and haslost many players who do not pvp since pve provides little to do once you have finished the game a few times.
Please think of it this way, I play 90% pvp, which I love, and the only time I ever pve is to cap elites (and yes, my monk has all 180 elites)or save up for some fancy weapon that I LIKE the LOOK of, not to make me better. So, I don't understand why people cannot let the traders and hard core power farmers do what THEY ENJOY...after all, they too buy the game, which keeps it free for us all. I say the more sales the better...no matter what or how you may like to play.

I think the people who are always saying PvE is too easy are really going to bow to Anet when they see the Realm of Torment region, which it seems may change over time... so play it at launch ok fine, come back in a month or so and its completly different... hummm interesting no? add to that the Fog of War regen to the map as you zone... Its going to be a challenge I think that most everyone will like...

Personally, I wouldn't care if there was gold at all, but for a game to have long lasting appeal to a wide range of players...there has to be something to pull you back...one or two foggy "uber" hard areas isn't going to cut it. Why not you may ask? The answer is easy...we all login at times when there are few other players looking to do what WE had in mind, so at that moment you have 2 choices, go farm/solo, whatever, or LOGOUT. Taking away play options IS NEVER a good choice IMO...if it were me, I would be adding more options. I guess we will just have to wait and see, I am hoping that NF will bring new game play options that will keep players around for the long haul...cause I sure enjoy pvp!!!
