Them being rich doesnt give them anything better than other people. So why complain about it?? I will never pay 100k and ecto for anything. Why cause i dont care about skins cause only 8 people can see them. Also i dont like to spend gold on my war. and thats what all the expensive stuff is.

You seem to be missing a major point of the game. My personal favorite part, and obviously one of the most favored parts of the game by others is that you can get different weapons and armor to look cool. When it boils down to it, most stats don't matter much anyway either, so by your logic, why not just run around with some req.13, clean, max crap sword?
In regards to the original question, there are many factions noobs or veteran players who are buying eBay gold like crazy to get all the new stuff that has come out. My guess is its the veteran players, because I'm assuming most noobs don't know about ebaying gold, and wouldn't care about getting all that stuff because they don't know about it yet. I didn't care about farming or money until several months after I got the game when I realized the coolness of some of the stuff.

That "stat" ANet quoted was a complete waste. It proved absolutely nothing.
If I remember corectly, they said that 80% of the players had 20 plat or less.
One million+ copies sold.
That means 200,000 players had in excess of 20 plat - but they didn't say how much more.
Quite a few players had "hidden" wealth - money invested in crafting materials, sigils, runes, weapons, mods, whatever. One person I know had one mule character full of sigils. Even with deflation, that's still a lot of money. Others anticipated needy players in factions, and stockpiled tons of rare crafting - and are making hundreds of thousands now jusst by selling it off. Their materials they had in storage wouldn't "count" in ANet's numbers either.
Money is laughably easy to make in this game. That's why prices for the most idiotic stuff are so high. And smart players are not wasting it away on crap.
In the week that factions has been out, I've made about 200K, and that's just by playing, not farming anything. Just tonight I found a perfect gold set of daggers that will net me another cool 100K or so. Just by running one mission to help a guildmate finish the game.
And I don't play 24/7. I'm married, with a wife and a daughter, a small business, a regular job on top of that, and other things in my life besides a computer game.

How to make 15k in 10 seconds?
Simple, buy Ragos Flame Wand cheap, sell it high 10 seconds later. Do i stand in towns all day doing this? No, i did that in between a couple of trips to SF. The only pain is getting rid of the huge number of worthless tomb greens i seem to have stocked up on whereby i sit in Ascalon saying 'WTS Tomb Greens' every so often. Judging by the fact i still have half of them, i don't do it often
Over all 6 of my characters, only 2 of them own 15k armour, my ele has a full set, my warrior has 2 pieces. If i'd wanted to i could've bought all of them 15k sets, but the point is i don't, some of it doesn't look good enough to spend my money on (15k Druids for example). Soon enough my mesmer will be the proud owner of FoW armour, but thats as soon as i decide to actually buy the last 40 ectos i need for it rather than find them.
The quickest way to make gold was the Ettins, farm them for an hour or so after the recent Sup Absorption drop rate update and you WILL get one, then go sell it to the merchant quickly before the prices hit the deck. I made 70k from those in a couple of hours of farming while chatting to people.

Even the people making the money to sell must farm it, or get it somehow.

well i was sitting around 700k+ from playing the campaign through with 4 characters to unlock skills for PvP, sales from inflated sigils and got lucky with a few good drops that boosted my stash
what pushed me over into the 'multi millionaire' club was, same as many people i'm sure, was this (along with 45minutes of 'fastest finger first'):
Update: Thursday, August 11
Improved traders so that traders from all regions (America, Europe, and Korea) now buy and sell from the same stock and charge the same prices.

Most people on here that have a few hundred thousand gold or more have had the game since it came out (a few since the beta) and made their fortune in the first couple of months. Before anet started nerfing.
Don't forget too that alot of people have signed up to online sites that provides them with info on hot farming spots, bot programs, game exploits. For some people (usually those that run these pay sites) they make real money by searching the game for these things that the average player would over look and then tell people their finding at a price. Simply put, they are the online game guides containing info that anet doesn't want you to know.
Now that factions is out, it is a whole new opportunity for the sweatshop/bot farmers, individual farmer and those that look for the hidden info and sell it. There still are changes that have been made the tyria that affect cantha as well and I'm sure that anet was a little more farm causous when developing factions but it will take anet time to fixed what has been missed. I hate to say it but players will have to find and exploit what they missed for them to fix it. So with that I say hurry up and find new farming spots and get rich quick scams so anet can nerf it.

I never bothered with 55 Monk ecto farming. I started with farming Ettins for runes outside of the ascalon settlement. After about 3 weeks of farming (about 1-3 hours a day) I had 2 superior vigor runes and 1 superior absorption rune (this was back when sup abs was 90k and sup vig about 65k). Then, ANet nerfed the drops and so I started green farming in SF. That's where the real money comes from--I made about 500k in 3 weeks there. However, with Factions out, most green items that drop there aren't worth anything. Not really sure what to do now...buy/sell mini-pets and work with materials I suppose =P

The topic of money comes up on a regular basis.
The truth is that it is not difficult to make a great deal of money if you watch price trends for certain materials and just be frugal with your money.
The vast majority of players tend to purchase new gear or upgrade their equipment every time they get to a new area. It's human nature to feel that first 20k "burning a hole in your pocket" when you first reach Lion's Arch, for example. Spend wisely and you'll inevitably get there.
I've gotten to the million mark long ago - largely from solo farming. Do a search and you'll find many threads about this. I've done some 55 solo farming but I made my dough mostly through raw materials.
Anyone who says they have 1.5million gold or more in storage is full of feces - storage will only hold 1million tops (I know first hand) - and your characters can hold 100k each max.

I made 85% of my gold in Tombs. A good B/P group (operative word being "good," which is hard to find these days) can run through there in about 45 minutes. A bad run will yeild 4-5k. A good one may be over 100k. And I'm cheap and only buy what I need (read no FoW armor) so I've managed to hold on to most of what I've made. Another good market was the sale FFS's. They were painfully easy to get and I could sell them for 1-3k each. Anyway, my point is you don't have to get your gold off eBay or be a full time farmer to make a lot of gold. I'm just an average, casual player.

Not really, when tons of people, myself included have multiple accounts and thus multiple storages and so can hold couple million in storage at a time.

Lol... You ppl don't even know how it is easy to earn money.
Buy - Sell system
Maybe someone will tell that is like scamming or something; nope, I just buy cheap from "Noobs" and sell later for more.
But you must be patient and relaxed for that, be kind with ppl and all that...
And... You will earn 100-150k/per day
Or get your 55hp monk and farm and farm and farm and farm and get 100 ectos and lose your eyez and never again play lol

I have to be the poorest non-noob in the game. I have beat the game by getting lucky and getting a free gold weapon which I sold for a lot (around 10k), buying new stuff and selling it for even more. Throughout my whole playing time since last July, I have grossed maybe 100k, maybe. I have good weapons and droks armor, but that is because I am good at selling items. My favorite place to sell is in Lion's Arch. I like it because players there are not poor, but not to smart to realize a bad deal. I am not saying I am scamming people, but I am saying they could find better deals. My whole point is that even if you are dirt poor, you can still get good armor and weapons, you just have to get lucky and sacrifice some of your beloved gold or green weapons to get the gold to get good armor and better weapons. Don't worry about parting with them, you will probably find better weapons and mods later in the game.(wow, that was a deep speech)
This is off topic, but can someone PM me a list of how many posts you need to submit to move up in rank (e.g. quiet traveler - citizen)

From the release of this game up until the Sorrows Furnace update, buying and reselling weapons was the fastest and most efficient way to make money. I still live off of that money to this day. It is how I made my millions.
But, now, due to Anet screwing the market over with all of these perfect items, the market has crashed and will continue to plummet further to oblivion. I guess that makes you poorer people happy. But to the people who have spent their time and put their energy into farming, trading, etc, why should they suffer from this economic collapse that Anet is ensuing.
Rich or poor, n00b or l33t, this game has been screwed over by the very people that made it.
Also, quick note. If you cannot make money now that factions is out, you have issues. Nearly half of the chests drop perfect items. The possibilities for getting a level of wealth nowadays is far easier than when this game originally came out.

Really? *counts gold in storage* 1.45million... guess i'm full of it... No wait, perhaps you should use your brain and you'd realise that some of us have 2 accounts?
The perfect item drop rate is utterly stupid. In a single FoW trip on my necro earlier i got 3 purples, 6 golds (2 from chests).
A perfect req 8 Furious Twin Hammer of Hammer Mastery (w/ 20% while hexed mod).
A req 11 Domination Focus w/ +30 health always
A perfect req 12 Shocking Shadow Bow of Defence (w/ 15% in stance)
A communing shadow staff (just why ffs!) 10% recharge, 19% illusion +5 energy
A req 8 Death Magic Cesta w/ 9% cast time for all
A shadow bow (19% below 50) w/ a 20% enchantment mod on it that i salvaged into 20 wooden planks.... (these salvages get lamer everyday).
The thing is, can i sell any of it? In the old days of GW that Dom focus might've sold for a decent price, but now i can pick up a green one with +30 health 20% +1 domination, most probably for about 1k because no-one wants it. The hammer... no-one wants them anyway, but its very similar to the other green hammers that no-one wants. Same goes for the Shadow Bow.
So in a single trip i picked up 3 golds with perfect mods. Give it a few more weeks and everything but uber rare skins will be worth the exact same as Flints Wand.

It's extraordinarily easy to farm. You just need patience for it, which is something I'm somewhat lacking. I'm too lazy to kit out a warrior, so I've been stuck with my ele. Farming minotaurs and hydras in the desert isn't lucrative, but it is absurdly easy. A few K an hour, perhaps. A couple hours this weekend, and I've got new Factions armour for my her. Not 15K, mind you. Regular 1.5K stuff. I'm not willing to invest that much time in something with no tangible benefits.
For that matter, questing with henchies usually yields me at least 1k per hour.

I honestly would like to see where this game would be without the 55 monk. I think a lot of people who claim to make money with power buying/selling really don't realize just how much farming has done to the market and why they are able to do what they do. If there were no 55's.. *wonders*
Of course, it would be nice if people didn't abuse previous exploits either to make money :P Oh well.. good thing the game doesn't focus as much on economy!

When something new comes out, you just have to jump on it. I made most of my money off of the 2005 wintersday event. Between Icy Dragon Sword Farming and Candy Canes, I made upwards of 1 Million Gold in about 3 days time. I could solo farm the Ice Imps with my warrior when they first started dropping the swords and a run only took about 20-25 minutes. 20-25 minutes for 80-100K isn't bad. Not to mention the fact that a stack of Candy Canes can get you about 175K now-a-days. I haven't made that much money since then though.
