A charr setting would be awesome, but with that you cant expect forests or things seeing as theyre mostly a pyromanic society.
Apart from that Nordic or Aztec or Roman/Greek would rock aswell
And if it were Nordic or Aztec id go with a Trial of Strength kinda thing, like a huge maze full of creatures, and whoever finishes it gets some kind of prize (not godly).
And as previously said, Green/Roman Coluseum thing.

I did say Roman inspired. The OP makes some good points, the Romans are the perfect PvP concepts, being one of the most noted empires in history and would be folly not to captalize on its selling point.
As for being PvP heavy, then i wont buy it if its like factions. Though i doubt if Jeff will dare admit it even if it was so to aviod losing sales.
perhaps allowing us to play a different race this time, all the model recycling for new classes is getting boring and old after a while.
Edit: to all those who kept saying Factions is Chinese inspired instead of Japanese, find me a chinese national in CHINA whose name is Shiro Tagachi, Togo and Kisu FFSOMFGBBQ! And not forgetting that when factions was released world wide, it was done so concurrently with the opening of Japan Servers and Tawian Servers. Tawian though made up of primary chinese speaking chinese (not neccessary from China or part of it), surrendered to the Japanese during WWII and conscripts were drafted from tawian to fill ranks of Japaneses Troops in the war. Go to a Japanese Restuarnt outside of Japan and a high chance you may actually find that the person running the place is actually a tawianese...if you are able to recognise one. Most players in game and the forums cant even tell Korean writings from Chinese which is frustrating to explain at times.

Id love to see a choice of race as well as class.
This sounds obsurd and whacky and impossible to do but ill say it anyway.
Have choseable races with the same classes then have them all start in their own areas.
Humans - > Ascalon - > Pre-seared Ascalon City
- > Kryta - > Pre-white mantle Lion's Arch
- > Shining Blade - > Pre-White Mantle Quarrel Falls
- > White Mantle - > Pre-White Mantle Lion's Arch
- > Elonians - > Pre-Heroes Amnoon Oasis
Dwarfs - > Shiverpeak - > Pre-"Crossing" Beacon's Perch
Then i would hope that all (bar White Mantle) storys would merge to a Luxon vs Kurzick kind of thing Allies vs. Mantle/Mursaat. Each races with its own ending.

I'd like to see the world shattered at the end of nightfall and the entrance to some strange new world where these darkness things are coming from. A kind of ethereal stargazer theme with wierd floating islands suspended in some wild limbo along with some strange gigantic battleships. We could have pvp ship boarding battles, floating narwhales, domed cities, and PIRATES! YAR!

I think the theme will involve unicorns.

I'd say a classical theme is a good bet. Lots of mythology to draw from as well as cool visuals.

Personally it would be great to have a underground theme (not a copy of the underworld) Maybe start from Pre-searing and access an opening to the new world under the Abby. The world can be full of Dark Dwarves, gnomes, fungus men, demons, slimes etc… Towns and out posts will look like Stalagmites

I think we might be seeing some of that in Nightfall if I recall from some screenshots.

South American seems to be the most logical bet.
Others that make sense are greeco-roman and viking cultures (chapters 5 and 6 anyone? :-)

Well considering that since factions Anet idea seems to make chapters inspired on real cultures, lets think of war like civilizations that have clashed at each other. we havent seen much of a clash in the actual chapters, only between the Lux and Kurz so...
Think about it, Anet as stayed away of European civilizations because they wanted to be original when prophecies first came out, the most european thing we have ever seen is pre searing Ascalon, I believe its about time to use European cultures. I would personally would love to see a greco-roman culture and a meso-andean one, you know, the well known clash between european and native american civs. both of them in the same game have everything GW needs, impresive unique landscapes, impresive architecture, war like cultures, weapons, armors, lore, huge amounts of mithology and folklore, unique and ditinctive cultures, they can fit well in practically all profesions
Plus Anet has proved they can mix similar cultures and create one out of them, like Cantha veing a mix of 3 countries, and Elona being a mesh of middle eastern cultures. just imagine a Mexica-Maya-Incan culture in gw!

Thats why I said greco-roman, I hope Anet can come up with something less obvious than a conquistator, but if they add a conquistador along with a mount I wouldnt care ^^. I dont know if they are going to continue to add new classes...but if they do a shapeshifter would fit the meso mythology perfectly, Nahual = shapeshifter.

...I take it you've played Skies of Arcadia? Because that's the game you've just described. GG.
To make this post legit...The Roman/Greek theme is kind of present in the Paragon from Nightfall, but a whole area devoted to the time would be great...And then we could have someone do a Bill and Ted reference :P
So yeah, either Roman/Greek or Aztec/Maya/Inca is probably what it's gonna be like. Or better yet, PULL A SURPRISE MOVE, ANET! Seriously, after reading this thread they're going to deliberately *not* make a Greek/Roman themed game :P
