It will be interesting to see what happens. I got into GW when Factions came out, so I didn't get to participate in the Halloween and Christmas events. I've been wanting one of those pumpkin heads since I first saw one in game. And, of course, those DP erasing candy canes are fantastic, not to mention all the other little goodies they gave out.
I thought the Dragon Festival was a lot of fun too and look forward to the next one.
But based on what I read in that Gaile Gray transcript, there was some hesitancy over whether they would do the Halloween event because it was so close to the Nightfall release. Gaile expressed personal hope and desire for the event, but stopped short of saying that it definitely would or would not happen.
I think it would be nice if Anet did game wide special holiday events, and Halloween and Christmas seem like good candidates for this. It'd be great fun to see a unique take on each event in the three different lands. On the other hand, I can see where they'd want each campaign to have it's own special events...Halloween/Christmas for Tyria, Dragon Festival for Cantha and whatever they come up with for Nightfall.
In any case, hope they have Halloween somewhere, and hope they bring back the pumpkin heads. I think my female necro will look really cute in one. I'd even dye her scars orange to match! lol

I missed Halloween last time, but I watched videos of it, and it looked awesome. I hope they have an event - I don't care which chapter. Halloween is pretty much my fav Holiday, so yeah. I did take part in the X-mas stuff, and that was A LOT of fun too. I still miss the snowmen

Halloween has always been a family favorite since my sister's birthday is October 31!......and maybe they should have waited and released nightfall in november so that it wouldnt conicide with a holiday event?
AND they dont seem to have a problem with things overlapping since the dragon festival was the same time as factions came out. (ok, it was about the same time I FINALLY got my copy )

Nightfall goes live October 27 cause it's exactly six months after Factions went live, and they had announced they would release campaigns every six months. .... and the Dragon Festival was a month or two after Factions went live

You’re kidding me right; you really think they will take out the event all together. You know they are also working on campaign 4 as well, but the way the programmers work at times 24/7. I doubt they will miss this event, there might be a setback; but that’s it. I believe if they kill “it” they will let us know, but I am worrying what will happen to the other campaigns especially Nightfall (I see a problem there). Unless they held the event at the Temple of Balthazar, as a universal event; that sure in hel* would save some programming time. Of course the one thing we know is they did not promise the event every year right? It’ does not matter, but it’s a added plus.

And for people not buying nightfall, the release of nightfall means, jack shit.
Also, people who perhaps were unable to during the halloween event, like myself, who was too busy dealing with the fact my house was floating in the gulf coast from august to november of last year, and was unable to play gw at that time. Maybe people like that, who came into the game later, or perhaps played before but was unable to attend, would like a hat? Think about that for a while.

They do have better things to do than add mini pets, or new greens, or useless weekend events (what the hell is a double XP scroll event for?), or useless quests, or new skins. Why do you think GW had become such a crappy game since last year? They're improving on the "cutesy" things, not the things that matter. If Anet spent less time on cutesy events and items, and spent more time on combat balance and playability, GW might be a good game. All the good pvpers stopped playing since a little while after factions. All it is now is vim in HA and smite-thumpway (and soul barbs, which they still have not fixed) in gvg.

It's not as simple as "the code's already there". I don't know how ANet develops software exactly, but my understanding of software development is that when code isn't needed, it's removed (at least, that's how it's supposed to be done because the more lines of code you have the more chances you have for things to go wrong ect ect). It might be backed up somewhere, but special events AREN'T just flipping a bit. It takes work, plus having devs ready and free to fix bugs (Dragon Arena and Ranger pets...). Now, it's possible that the ANet devs leave that code in, but they're being smart by not committing to anything - under promise and over deliver (hah which is my own personal approach to software development). Also, the more changes you make to the code, the chance of introducing a regression into the code also increases. It's a really complicated process, and the ANet devs have little room for error in many cases.
The mini-events however? THOSE are flipping a bit. It's basically tweaking the percentages of drops, or of rare items, ect. It's easy stuff, usually just changing some numbers. If they've set the system up well, the drop rates ect aren't even hard coded, they're something they can just tweak that'll take all of 1 minute to do that anyone can do.
BTW, the double scroll thing - did it occur to anyone but me that it might be good for lifting death penalties in areas that take hours upon hours to get through?

3) There is two teams. So if the prophices team is too busy with Nightfall the Faction teams could add it Cantha.. OR the Tyira team could just insert the old code.. it's really not that hard once it been done before.
I like A.Net and GW ect but I would be disappointed in them if they didn't have the event.
|
Hmm....since when is both teams working on nightfall??? Both worked on prophecies, and team 1 worked on factions, and now team 2 is working on nightfall. Stop getting it mixed up. Unless you think the factions team either sat around doing nothing while prophecies was in development (which was at least 2 years) or you think that the factions team was hired right after teh release of prophecies release, you have no reason to think that only one team made prophecies.....please get it right already....

-_- obviosly a pvper only.....and this really has nothing to do with pvp....
To the OP, yes a halloween event would be really nice (I didn't know GW existed untill about a month after wintersday...so I would like to see both events, and I bet there are a lot of people with the same/similar problem). If anything, just put it back in tyria. It is definitly nice to have events (hopefully most will be every year), and I mean event, events. Not the mini-events (weekend ones). Not everyone is getting nightfall, and a lot of people would like to have a halloween event, so why not?
Oh, and maybe a special halloween event minipet? That would be awsome if we got special mini-pets at events! Then again, a hat is more than enough...

If there is going to be an "event" then i expect they might hold it an communal area open to anyone owning a copy of guildwars no matter what chapter they have.

Would be a shame and unethical that just because of Nightfall launch, we dont get the Halloween event since the launch with its own event date is so close to Halloween, or if Anet makes the Halloween event exclusive to Nightfall only to promote sales. (This reminded me of the material storage BS that was exclusive to Factions only. Hopefully it will not come to pass.)
Pumpkin heads are welcomed but please no more of the 1 day only with 3 hour interval programme, Halloween is not a holiday in every country and some of us actually have to work. The arrangements where you had a collector a week after the Dragon event to exchange for the Dragon mask was a much more considerate arrangement.

I only started playing GW early this year, so missed the Hallowe'en and Wintersday events.. I'd love to get me those pumpkin and Santa hats.
Agree that the Dragon Festival worked well with so many chances to log on and join in, and not be restricted to a small time window to pick up the masks (though it was fun to collect orbs and run from grasps in Shing Jea anyway). I'd like to see the first two events stay as Tyrian, as Prophecies won't be getting any new events.
I can't see that it's just a case of re-inserting code for them though, there's so much new code gone in to the overall game that I'd imagine (tho' I'm no expert) that it'd have to be tested pretty thoroughly to make sure one thing doesn't screw another up...
Just my opinion, naturally.

i was away for halloween so a new one will be good for me. But i think the items should be different to show who has been here before the others, if the item is annual it will take meaning from it, only the event should be annual

i disagree with redoing wintersday or halloween. they should do the events again, but not give out headgrear again. halloween and wintersday should give out boot gear, or chest gear next. this allows those who been playing the game and were able to attend the orginals still get to feel special. i wore my wintersday hat on dragon day to show i been playing the game a while. so this still keeps the "i been here longer" feeling for some players, which is important to game legecy. also, with giving out new gear, those who been here a while, after 4 years could have a full santa armor suit or something really special. this not only keeps people feeling special but also keeps playing the game.
thats just my thoughts.

Do you really need a pumpkin hat to make you feel superior to another player? The headgear was/is a gift, not meant to be a status symbol.
I still think all of the previously done holiday events will continue to be held where they origionally were, while new chapters will bring new events. ANet, from a business perspective, wants everyone to own every chapter, and what better way to entice you than with certain non-essential items that you can only get if you own them all?

or maybe have chest/boot gear as the event prize but also have an npc for newer players to get the hats, yes i have them already but i dont see why others should be left out just so people can feel superior.
the pumpkin hats are the best imo so far and why shouldnt everyone new and old get the chance to have one
i myself would prefer a pumpkin king minipet and it wouldnt ruin the economy as everyone who could play at the time has the chance to get one

Due to their rapid release schedule, there are two teams working at Arena.net on the next two Campaigns so that new Campaigns can be released as quickly as possible while still maintaining a high level of content (i.e. one team has been working on Campaign 3 for the last 3 or 4 months, and the other team just started on Campaign 4, so that each Campaign has about a year of development.).

we know ANET has at least 3 teams - maybe more
