Can Faction chars start in Nightfall?
I assume the answer would be NO -- but I'm not so sure
I saw this commentary

I suppose thats possible
whats known is...
- there will be an assassin hero
- there will be new assassin/rit armor
- there will be new assassin/rit skills
- I did see drops on the preview newbie isle that required communing
during the preview, I DID NOT see
- assassin/rit trainers on starting isle
- assassin/rit char select for Create
maybe we didnt see that during preview because *both* Nightfall and Factions are required?
I know Assassin and Rit are exclusive to Factions
- but what if you own both games?

From what I know, the 2 new chars are exclusive to that campaign. So to make rit or assassin you must buy Factions. And that guy who you quoted does not himself make an exact quote of text or a pic.. its like "I heard John say [something]" so I wouldn't put much credibility in it.
What I know of what Gaile did say was that Assassins and rits were getting new skills in Nightfall (which we all know is true thanks to the PvE preview). And I believe the page he links (first post in thread you link) prooves the new armour.
I own proph and factions and willl own nightfall and I didn't get the option of making a rit or an assassin. I'm pretty sure you have to make them in Cantha, get to Kanieng and then bring them over... can't start in Elona.

I own all chapters too and assume the poster misquoted Gaile
(Use Assassin vs Create Assassin)
In Factions, you were not allowed to immediatly travel over to PreSearing
Maybe Faction Starting Characters can immediatly travel over to NightFall Starting Island ?
will find out in a few weeks....

Highly unlikely - it's likely that map travel from Cantha will still be from Kaineng. Anything else would make things too fragmental. Also, creating a canthan assassin and immediately taking him to Istan would defeat the purpose of having assassin as a unique class to Cantha - and it would be hard to tie on the plotline.

Doubtful. I'm starting to believe that only the core professions plus the two new professions will be available at the start of each expansion. You'll just have to make an Assassin and get to Kaineng(or however its spelled!!) Center and activate the quest to Elona when you get Nightfall.

I'd go with that assumption as well, otherwise it'll completely mess up the storylines from each chapter.

I think Gaile just wasn't as carefull with her wording as she should've been and that guy misread it.
I doubt sins/rits will be able to start in Elona.

When was it stated there was an assassin hero?(I hope this is true!)
What about having a Ritualist hero? Any news on that?(I really hope there is one)
And I really don't see us being able to make assassins (or Rits) in nightfall. They are factions-only classes, and being able to make them in Nightfall will make it so they are no longer factions-only.
Now, making them in Factions and bringing them to Nightfall is perfectly reasonable. I know thats the first thing I'm going to do (after I try out dervish, paragon, and mesmer first )
EDIT
Yes Nightsaber, I think he just misread it. I think she said you can't make assassins or rits in nightfall, ever, but you can bring them to nightfall (as long as you have factions).

I think that there will be no additional assasin and rits faces and hairstyles but only armor, skills and items. While the preview event was on we were able to chose from 3 races for the core heroes (while creating PvP char) but there wasn't the option factions' heroes to be from other then Asian race. This means that there will be no assasins and ritualists as starting chars in Nightfall. So, we must make the faction hero in Cantha first go to the ship and then go to Elona. But it is still good that we will take the other stuff for the factions' profs.

That happens in Prophecies, too, because of the way caster weapons are generated...

May have been already been said.
I very much doubt you will be able to create assassins or Ritualist within Nightfall.
You can take your Ass or Rit's to Elonia or Tyria, but not start a character on either one.
And you wont be able to create a Derv or Par in Tyria or Cantha either.
The only characters you can create on all continents which exist and will exist, are the 6 core professions.
Any future ones will be unique to those continents and only creatable on those continents.
They will how-ever be able to travel between continents.
And older game professions will be able to travel to new game continents to get new armor and weapons (but not the other way around).
Its all another sales-technique to make people go "Oooo I want a Ritualist, Ill have to go buy Factions".
Anet has to make money somehow.

definately a good marketing strategy if you ask me.
I wonder if any of the new skills will be quest rewards (if you bring-over your assassin or rit) or if they will ALL be aquired through plats n caps..
*because I got two skill rewards in the WPE* (in case thats still a question)

Only skill quests I saw in the preview were The Training ones like when you pick your secondary, just like in Factions, were there more?

You'll have to start your ritualist in Cantha then take it over to Elona. I'd imagine the secondary trainer wouldn't be too far into the continent similar to Cantha. If you want to save time, go ahead and make your ritualist now and get it to the mainland, then just wait for Nightfall to go live and head over to Elona.

hmmm don't you have to choose a secondary to even get to the mainland?
Edit:Not opposed to creating a new toon in cantha/leveling for a bit to get to NF, just don't want to jump through hoops just to get a secondary I wanted to start with in the first place :P

You do have to choose a secondary, but it doesn't matter which you pick since you're going to just switch anyway.....
