I agree with Loviatar on the fact that you only have yourself to blame for not paying attention to the Rating.
But on a 'lighter' note, Diablo II paled in comparison to the original... Anyone remember "The Butcher"? The room he was in had some of the most gorey and gruesome things I've ever seen. (don't tell anyone... I loved it! )

"Inscriptions" are "inherent bonus modifiers for weapons" and can be transferred among weapons, or sold for gold. Also, no more salvaging what you don't want, you can choose what component you want to salvage.

So this is Anet's way of dealing with the lack of a decent trading system - Destroy the economy! (at least the gold-items market) For sure easier than creating a decent auction house...
The new trading will be like "WTS +15^50 Sword Inscription" and those will be cheap if salvaging them will be easy and inexpensive... golds will be dirt cheap as perfect inherent mods will be meaningless.

So far the scariest thing in the game I have seen has been a Murssat. Gross was never a problem so I would let my 12 year old Son play the game. Now this has me very concerned.

sorry but have you checked that it is rated *TEEN* and not *everybody*?
if the child were 8 would you still let them play?
it is up tp the parent to decide what to let their UNDER AGE RATED child see not make us all come down to the level of your childs comfort zone.
you are choosing to let an under age child play it so that is your decision

Apparently they do not teach English very well in your schools the word would does not mean I do let him play dont just assume things. The aspect of this level is borderline Mature (17+) is of real concern and I am sorry you can't see this. Guild Wars was refreshing from the gore that was Diablo II (one of the many reasons why I stoped playing it). This is not something I want to return to.

You said "Gross was never a problem so I would let my 12 year old Son play the game." That implies the definition of the word "would" in the sense you used it to be: "accustomed to, or do usually or often", per example: "We would visit Grandma every morning up at the farm." - or did they not teach you that words have multiple meanings and connotations in your schools?
Also, who are you to judge the "aspects of maturity levels" in video games? That's what we have a rating system for (thanks to Mortal Kombat and the bitchy parents of that day), and games are scrutinized to that level, not yours. If you choose to stop playing because the game falls out of your own personal taste in maturity levels, that is your perogative, but don't push your ideals of decency and morality on everyone else.

Actually in this case the use of "would" really is ambigous.
GloryFox could mean one of two things:
1) Gross isn't a problem, she would let her son play (if he asked/wanted), or
2) Gross wasn't a problem, she has (in the past) let her son play.
Honestly I took it to mean #1 as the basis of her post, indeed the entire thread, focuses on the present moment. Would in the past tense is used to signify actions that have occurred often in a distant moment in the past, (common) events which do not happen anymore.
eg - Once/then we would walk home from school = Once/then we used to walk home from schol.
The use of "would" in the past tense cannot be taken to mean that it happens at all in the present, quite the opposite in fact.
Also, since it is her son, she has every right and the responsibility to ensure that he is not exposed to what might be considered to be a "bad influence". Ratings exist as a guide for parents, they are not the absolute authority on the matter.
I, for one, would not like to see gore in GW and I don't believe I'm the only one. It has NOTHING to do with morality or decency. I love horror movies, action, sci-fi, sometimes the more violent they are the better they are. In the case of GW however, I simply don't believe it is necessary, and that it will add nothing but strain to computer system resources, to have such "luxuries" in-game.
IMHO GloryFox has every right to be concerned, and to voice that concern to others. She doesn't want violence in the game, that is her opinion and she isn't the only one to have it. Voicing such ideas is not "pushing" it on people. I've not seen her preaching endlessly the many sins of video games in any of her posts. She has merely expressed a concern that an increase in "realism" will push the border of what she would classify as "good taste" and that the current rating might no longer be appropriate.

I apologize for coming on a bit strong in my retort toward GloryFox. However, the idea of what is acceptable in video games is certainly subjective. Discussion is welcome, and I'm sorry for exclaiming 'end-all-be-all'.
Regardless, she was talking about her 12-year-old son. The connotation of 'would' still means nothing because the Teen rating straight-up says "have content that may be suitable for ages 13 and older". This means that already she feels her son is mature enough to have access to that level of violence or other adult situations within that criteria.
If the game exceeds her ideal of acceptable adult situations/violence, but remains in the ESRB standard for the Teen rating, she should simply not allow her son to play. If she or anyone else feels the rating itself is in err, then take that up with the ESRB, not Guild Wars or Anet. It's not their fault.
They may push the envelope, but that's what the envelope is their for. I say more power to them. If they can still market the game to young adults, snuggle the line of decency, yet keep an immersive storyline and fun gameplay, fantastic! Be comforted by the apparent fact that they will not cross the line into Mature 17+.
That said, I want an edge of horror thrown into the game, and I think Nightfall will deliver. I can't wait! We already know we'll probably be on edge just walking through explorables and missions, never knowing where that next trap is. I want some Doom3-quality scarefests! I have yet to see anything in either chapter that gave me the heebie-jeebies... except maybe the first time I saw Minister Cho transform.... hmm...

But, those things affected everyone who played the game, and more so the majority who don't control any towns/outposts. This change woud potentially only affect (negatively) the filthy rich population (who will find a way to get richer) or those that just have to collect every possible rare, perfect weapon and show off to their friends (which they can still do if for instance certain skins are extremely rare). Last time I checked, these people didn't fall into the "many, many" category.

if anybody needs a refresher in english it is you .
i made zero assumptions and stated even fewer
when i said

it was what is known as.......a rhetorical question
i did not make any statement on what you were doing but simply asking if your child were much younger would you let them play at all?
i stated that whatever you did was your decision and made zero assumptions on what actions you are taking/will take in that rhetorical question
i will also repeat that i do not wish to be dragged below the rating of the game just so an underaged child can be comforatable playing it.
and it is refreshing that you would not think of making assumptions of your own while accusing me of assuming
EDIT
I SEE THAT YOU WERE REFERING TO YOUR *WOULD* YOU POSTED WHILE I WAS REFERING TO THE *WOULD* THAT I POSTED

Thank you I was trying to use my son as an example and failed miserably at it. So let me clarify some more.
The Matrix is rated R, very cool move, lots of fun, but still rated R (and yes I allow my son to watch the Matrix). However H O S T E L is also rated R and contains so much gross violence that most movies reviewers simply left the screening. I would never ever consider seeing it myself let alone allow my son to see it, and yet this movie is rated the same as the Matrix. Now for me if ANET goes in the direction of H O S T E L then I’m gone as a player they will never see me again. I know I will not be the only one. The description in this Magazine described the "Flesh Level" the kind of gross that I strive to avoid in all forms. THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG IF ANET THINKS THEY MUST PUT THIS IN, TRUTH IS THEY DONT.
One last thing this is not a squeamish issue as I was a Butcher (Meat Cutter) for 7 years. I can personally strip a cow of call possible uses and sell it to the public without an afterthought.

I said it was getting slightly off topic; it's sounds like a few people are starting to get into personal argument wars rather than actually discussing flesh level or other things in the mag.

all I can say is wow!
There are alot of new features to be excited about.
the inscriptions sound cool, the change in armor crafting that has been mentioned sounds intruiging. I love the idea of heros and the wurm thing could pan out in either an ok or a really neat way. either way we can't really lose i don't think.
I'm not very keen on the hell level personally. but looking at the quality of work that Guild Wars has shown so far, i won't be too worried until i have reason to be. When the game is essentially based on fighting and killing and war, it's inevitable that there will be a fair amount of gore involved. Though i definately prefer fighting in pleasant environment than bloody ones. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how it turns out.
I'm just excited really about getting to throw spears
EDIT: Does the article mention anything about the new skills for the core profession. I remember that was one of the things that got me the most excited about factions. I really enjoy creating new builds and the like with the new skills

I'm kinda disappointed in the PC Gamer deal. Before the November issue was out, it looked like they were basically saying buy the issue and you get a minipet. But now we find out we have to do a quest(or "mission" as the magazine calls it on the cover) and the pet will disappear after the preview event is over. So people only have that much time to get the minipet and go to other places in GW and show it off. And I can hardly wait to hear about people selling them to other gamers who don't know about these specifics, who will be upset or confused when it disappears and they've been ripped off.

AS SOON AS YOU BUY THE RETAIL GAME YOU REPEAT THE SAME LITTLE QUEST, GET IT AGAIN FOR KEEPS.
BETTER?
since you have to create a character in game and everything is deleted anyway nobody loses a gold piece
