Congrats on your 15k platemail!
I remember the first time I had enough gold to waste on the stuff I wanted but didn't need. On my first character (a w/mo no less) the skimpy female gladiator armor was just updated and I just had to have it. Skimpy slut armors FTW! It's been dyed just about every color GW dyes have to offer.
Glad you made an in-game goal and got to enjoy seeing it fulfilled. GJ!

IMHO, he didn't waste it if he likes his new look and equipment. Ofcourse, there were and are lots of "black knights" running around in black dyed armor wearing black shields and weapons. Some of us might not like their looks, but what's important it *they* like them. Arguing that someone wasted their money on an armour set *we* don't like is ridiculous. I was overjoyed when I bought my first 15k armor (hydromancer) over a year ago. I just love how my ele looks in it and didn't even think about getting her luxon or whatever new armors came out with Factions. You can argue that there are better bonuses on new armors and not that many mobs that use cold attacks and that I have wasted my money. But I don't I did. It's my money and my right to spend it however I damn well please.

Nice one... I too remeber the thrill when i got my hands on my first 15k set
(Necrotic from Marhan's grotto) Since then i've been working on some others but stumbled on having 5 sets across 3 of my 6 chars... they all have max AL though. As someone posted before, skillcapping is a good addition to work against the boredom of overfarming to get the amounts of gold and materials.
I crafted the vellum and the deldrimor steel for my 15k scar pattern and platemail with materials i found while capping skills.
Sitting at a good 4,5 mil XP atm and still not worn out
Currently working on 15k Luxon armor for my Rit

Congrats on your 15k set although i find it a waste of money to buy black dye... you can get much greater dye combi's for less cash but thats just me.
I remember when i got my first 15k set i was soooo overjoyed that i annoyed the crap out of everybody with it (15k ascalonian for my warrior) after that i spend atleast 500k on other sets for my necromancer and ranger.
Im now saving up money to buy a 15k set for my necromancer when NF comes out X3 and if i dont like anny of those sets il just buy one in cantha or tyria.

So many are bashing his choices. They are, after all, HIS choices. If it made him happy, why criticize? I don't care for FoW armor, but I'm not going to tell someone they made a bad choice by buying it. People spend money on the stuff they want and value things differently from others. Who are we to tell them they made a bad choice? Bottom line is he's broke but he's happy.
Congratulations man! Have fun!

Congrats on your 15k plate. I too recently bought it and i fell glad
Tho on my 1st char, i had 400k (my mate gave me 400k strangely because i helped him with his 15k armor(gave him all my storage)) and i immediately got 15k plate.
Dyed it silver. bought sup absorb and vigor (back when they were 70-90k each Oo). Next day i salvaged it Oo 300k or something waster lol. Then i got 15k glads and kept it till i deleted him.
In PvE - i think its all for looking your best.
PvP - stats > looks but if u have both go u

Black dye imo isn't the best choice either...
I've made my Platemail a metallic blue and i'm qute satisfied bout it...
As for my Necro i got 4 dyes mixed per armor piece (that's a lot of dye) and still it's a shitload cheaper than having to buy (if drops stay out of course) all that black.
15k scar pattern comes black standard so i left it that way

I used to farm like mad doing chest runs, green farming, and even FoW and UW. I got over around 150k once (that was like 8 months ago) before i started my spending streak. I have to say this for almost all the players out there. Once you get gold, you'll use it not matter if you are in need of something or not. Like for me, i brought different weapons (swords, daggers, bows..etc) Just recently, i sold some of my items and with help from friends, gotten two 15k armors for my warrior (Gladiator, and Kurzick) and one set for my mesmer (Noble). Basically, the point i'm trying to make is that you can be rich in this game. But in matter of minutes, you'll be poor again. Just like in real life...

Duuuuuudeee that is SOOOO me
as soon as u reach an amount high enough for any random 15>50 ull want to buy it
btw, 15 plate looks great, i have a set on my warr, along with glads and that other 1 (dragon?)
Farming is still a pain, only ever do it for small stuff like caps sigs xD
And yea, congratz dude, i kno how it feels

Congrats to the OP on his platemail armor. I tried the 15k plate on my female warrior, but didn't care for it so I scrapped it. Maybe if I had played around with the dyes a little bit I would've kept it, but it's gone now.
I remember not only getting my first set of 15k armor, but my first set of drok's armor. That was a great feeling. Having that max armor for the first time was awesome.
Let the guy enjoy his new armor.

I have platemail armour on my female warrior, but I used dye remover to give it a gold effect. In fact its the only armour I have ever had for her and shes over a year old.
As for the cash or no cash thing, I prefer to have the gold - just in case. However the most I have ever had is about 120K and after getting my ranger 15K Luxo I am now broke again too. I guess I have a fair few materials ready for Nightfall though, plus an Ecto.
All I need Anet to do is to make tunnels under all the bars in town so I can travel along them gathering all the gold dust that falls between the floorboard cracks - or at least until someone brings a Minotaur into town

True... Do what looks good, don't just do black dye because it's the most expensive... Platemail probably looks pretty good black, but there's probably a few other colors that would look good as well. I like to expirament with colors, Blue and Green mixed Makes an awsome acid green on most Necro armors whereas if you dyed them black they'd be very Monotone...
Congrat's on the 15k though... just got my Mesmer's 15k Luxon myself, I'm broke now too
Buying armor for 10 characters, including several sets of 15k costs a lot...

Yeah I just don't really understand why people complain about farming. I farm at times when I am online by myself and very few or no guildies are on and no close friends are on. Since I started this account 15 months or so ago I have farmed enough to buy my 5th set of FoW. You really just gotta know where to farm and the most efficient way to do it. My newest farm spot is actually an old one but I am able to completely solo a full smite run on my necro. I make anywhere from 4-5 ectos per run + various golds and 4-7k worthless merchant drops. Each run takes a little more than 15 mins and I do about 8 runs a night on average. I make around 200-250k per night just from ectos drops not to mention selling dropped gold items. I generally sell cheap so I can get back to farming quick. With some practice and common sense you can easily turn 1 mill + in a week. There is such an insane wealth of knowledge here on guru that is shocks me that there are not more rich folks.
Currently I do not want anymore FoW sets and am stock piling ectos and shards for sale when Nightfall comes out. Hopefully the FoW armor for Dervish and Paragon will be pretty sweet and everyone will need materials for it.

^After that massive brag session^ :P j/k j/k
Heres my 2 cents,
To start it off, GJ to the OP for making this thread (giving me something to do when im bored at work :P) and grats on the hard work on getting your 15k plate. Everyone knows your first set of 15k armor was the toughest to get.
I love farming! Now that you know that, im also a workaholic. I work 6 days a week and 10-12 hour days, but I love it. The point to that is; farming is like work. You go out into the world, try to find something you can make money doing, do it for a loooooong time and go sell your findings for money. Just like the real world. People like me can relate to the game by what they enjoy the most. I enjoy work.....so I like to farm, find items and sell them. The interaction between seller and buyer is a game to me.
Other people like to explore and find new territory. So they go out on quests and missions to unlock that next new area, so on and so forth.
But having said that, sometimes that tedious job of farming and spamming gets tiresome. Whenever this happens, I do a few quests or missions that I haven't done to get a new take on the game. Mabey start a new char and try a different perspective on the game. For me, money in game will never be and issue, but I can always remember and relate to old times when all you had was a char, 1.5k armor, purple weapons and some shabby crafting materials as your only source of income.
Really, it's all about what makes us happy. If you play the game and it's not making you happy, DO SOMETHING ELSE. Call some buddies up and go outside for a damn change
Thanks for reading the ramble and to all fellow GW farmers, questers, runners, and spammers, have fun......because ultimately thats what this is all about

Is it bad if i spent majority of my time at Grotto doing nothing or farming too much?
I'm still broke from buying that 15k piece for my Mesmer and now i have no urge to try and beat factions again nor to do anything else other than to get more gold into my account.

This is how i roll Everyone in guild and alliance seem to need missions or help at some point, so i go off and help them with whatever. Thats how i get money, find uber drops and so on. The only "farming" I ever did was ettins and that was just cause it was uber easy. Do i do thing that are concidered farming, yes, but it's usually tied to group activities, like mission masters, questing, and/or special events (like triple drop). I figure if I feel like i'm grinding in a game, it's time to stop playing it.

to me the helm works out very good. im using a healing hands build and the only attribute problem with it is the strenth. so the helm helps out a ton.

lol trust me, i did not get black die because it was the most expensive. i would have chosen 5k for 5 white dies over 50k of black dies any day. imo, black is the only color for 15k platemale that actualy fits in. the rest of the colors just seem like a random blob of ink on parts of the armor. a lot of the dies have to fit in with your guild cape too. to me the set died black looks awsome with my black guild cape with skulls in the backround. if you had a white guild cape then you should go with silver die and so on.
the reason i dont like farming a lot is because you can spend an hour clearing out an area only to get random whites that will add up to about 2k profit. the only time i like to farm is when im exploring new parts of the map. so if i do get complete crap during the run then i can say to myself that it wasnt a complete waste of my time.

Grats on getting there man! Now go enjoy yerself and finisher your map
For myself I know that when I *am* poor, all I do is farm... I like to be rich, so I can play more relaxed and help out my guildies at the same time. I dunno its just how it seems to me. I've never even bought 1 set of 15k, just dont care about them, and I have more than enough for obs armor. Meh, perhaps there'll be more cool armors in NF... or mebbe I'll have the first Dervish in FoW armor...

platemail....ugh....why waste ur money?
and why black?
i'd rather get some nice new shields that 15k platemail, but then again, i'm not using any platemail, only sentinels and dreadnoughts.....
right now i'm farming some greens for my heroes in ch3 and materials for new armors, cos there's nothing else to do in factions but farm... and prophecies r getting old... but when we have few guildies on we just having fun killing smth in all-guild group, and its fine if nothing drops, cos its fun anyway
honestly i dont think that armor matters, i used to use cheapo droks tattoo (long be4 i crafted my 15k tattoo and fow tattoo) but i've noticed that nobody cares how the monk looks as long as evrbdy's alive.... so just get the stats u need, if u dont have enough gold to get 15k set, buy cheapo armor and play... its rly important that u like they way u chars r looking like, but stats on ur armor r more important than looks, cos no matter what u're wearing u'll look better when alive than when dead..........
