Gamepot & IGN previews of Nightfall
I found these articles today from Gamespot and IGN on almost the completed version of Nightfall. Sorry if this was already posted I thought it was a bit interesting.
Here are some interesting quotes from these articles:
Gamespot: β(On a cool note, while you don't need to own Guild Wars or Guild Wars Factions to play Nightfall, there is a neat reward if you do. There's a unique hero based on each of those two campaigns, and you can travel back to Tyria and Cantha and unlock them. Not only that, but you can also adventure around the original campaign settings with your heroes.)β
IGN : βTo offer solace to obsessive collectors out there, we were told all 14 can eventually be recruited once the narrative has been completed.β

Exactly what I was thinking, but the Prophecies hero..... is probably gonna be one of the original 6 classes. And where does that leave a Rit hero.
I'm still happy we can get all 14 now

Hold up I was just looking at GW Wiki (and I know there information is not the final info for Nightfall) I count 17 heroes in all and they said that only 14 is in Nightfall. So that means 2 of them will come from the other (1 per) campaigns, and the other 14 comes from Nightfall. That of course leaves out one Hero not counted. Which could mean three things: 1. One special hero per campaign. 2. One hero gets the boot in the end of Nightfall (my bet is on the Master of Whispers or some betrayer). 3. Guild Wiki just has there facts wrong. I’m still keeping my figures cross that a Rit will be included now or in a later installment (or add on to the campaign).
It looks like your right under there description of Zenmai it has the origins of Cathna and Olias (a necro) under the origins of Tyria. The one interesting one is Rahzah he comes from the mists according to GW wiki. They also quote that the Necro’s Attoron, and Olias might be one in the same.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but i think by "inventory" they meant is the weapon/offhand slot and runes on armor...

Once found these special characters can be sent back to a private quarters where you can put their skills to use. For instance, perhaps the only way to get a certain weapon is to recruit the right smith hidden out in the fields.
|
Is this the first time we've seen this particular bit of info? It looks almost like a new way of relating to Materials merchants (who were feeling kind of obsolete in previous chapters).
...It also looks like a lot of fun for those of us who run characters through at launch. Later on with obsessive Wiki entries, not so much.

An equipment builder for PvP will allow further customization, and those settings can be saved for later use as well.
|
A firm solution to the continuously-rerolling-PvP-characters problem!? Assuming it's comprehensive enough, of course.
<switch to the Gamespot preview>

You'll also be able to teach heroes new unique skills, thanks to hero trainers.
|
Presumably a way to provide a decent skill base for heroes belonging to classes you haven't played much (particularly the new two).
...incidentally, there's some plot spoillers in this one, avoid if you must.

Don't put to much faith in the Gamespot preview there were errors written in it.
For example it says "Nightfall will be released next month". There is also a lot of phrase misspeaking. (Trailers vs. Trainers etc.)

From random mobs will drop something called armor insignias which can be applied to items for even more bonuses.

Has there been any word on what these will be? Or even any speculation?

like +10 vs elemental, +10 vs fire, or +10 vs phys, etc?
actually the solution might well be the next sentence..

Arenanet also mentioned they were decoupling stats from armor's visual appearance
|
If you can just replace the mod, energy bonus, hp bonus, etc that'd 'decouple' the stats from the appearence. This statement didn't really make much sense because that's how it was in factions. The only other way it'd make sense is if they were going back and doing that in Prophecies.

Perhaps; but don't dwell on it too much or you'll incur the wrath of the inscription fairies and they'll come close the thread.

The Prophecies here will be Gwen. Her special ability: prance around and annoy the hell out of the target foe (lol).
I like the ridable wurms part from IGN, especially the fact that they do dance. Note that IGN asked the development team about ridable mounts in the future, and they could not comment on this. Sounds like a new class of Beast Master may be coming down the line.
I'm all over this Nightfall release.

Per Gamespot: "But you'll now control the wurm directly and have access to many wurm-specific skills, such as being able to rear the wurm's body out of the ground and body slam an opponent for massive amounts of damage."
Holy poop on a stick!

Fun speculation>>>
Prophecies Exclusive Hero: Old Mack (with his hungry devourer as a pet) ((or better still --- maybe one of the chefs of Elona makes pudding we can give to Horace and he will join you as a hero))
Factions Exclusive Hero: Drinkmaster Tahnu!
I'm just glad they will allow us to bring the heroes back to the old worlds, I was afraid you they might be afraid of water or something and only want to hang out in Elona.

The ability to take heroes back to Tyria/Cantha alone makes the game worth the purchase
