I have a problem with the whole event anyways I mean it is great to have the theme of halloween but when people can not be there for something like the Mad King who appears every 3hrs and seems like a very short apperance like everything else it is very hard to get the gifts on all your characters and I have about 7 characters that I would like to get it on.

By the time I get home from work I can maybe get 1 or 2 of his appearances if I push myself but it will only be able to do this on maybe 2 to 3 characters before he disappears for another three hrs.

Most of the events that give you masks or hats are not setup for the casual player and that is not right there should be a change from 3hrs to maybe 2hrs or a quest that you have to do to receive the item and not a collection quest either.

Well, I remember last Halloween AND Christmas I missed BOTH events due to a business trip and family commitments. ANet didn't let me get them afterward and I've been gettting PWND all year....I'm so glad I got my hats today so I can start winning again.

Last time I checked, event hats weren't a requirement for the game. Nor do they give any kind of advantage to players. It would be nice if they had an npc who gave away hats after the event but I'm grateful for what they have given us. If you can't make it during a 24 hour period then you are SOL.

have gotten 5 so far and only 4 appearances.....I had logged out with one character and logged in with a new one....and the king had not yet appeared in dist 93 of LA.....so I got 2 at the same hour......now some of my characters may get both hats! I hadnt planned on getting 2 that time----was setting up to afk when he appeared! and I wont knock it either.

I find it interesting that people can get the hat and then turn around to those who can't make it on or are having difficulty getting on at those hours and tell them stop whinning, your SOL, too bad for you etc, etc, etc. That seems to be a very grinch like attitude towards the communitee, just because you got it screw everyone else.

So what if the hat doesn't do anything but look snazzy on your head? So what if it just takes up space in the inventory. Its a holiday item that people can enjoy. The wreath outside more door doesn't do a whole lot (except collect dust) but I still have one for the holidays. So all I have to say is to those folks who are snubbing those who can't get on to GW to get their hats, have a heart, someday you might end up in their shoes and then you'll be wondering why didn't ANet make a provision for people who can't be on the computer for a holiday.

If anyone wants the hat but isn't going to be around when the event is going on, you will get the hat if you are AFK, as long as you are in the green circle you will get your hat.

Also to the Survivors I want to say that those deaths don't count.

I started a new character and didn't die yet, I was just standing there I didn't do a thing so of course he killed me a lot of times.

what really pisses me off is the people that get a hat/pumpkin and just chuck it on the floor, then laugh and leave it! I will just about get witches hats for all 7 of my characters, pumkin hats would be nice as well but atleast i managed to get something for nothing

4 events 9 hats

the thing is you gotta start in a low dist, and as soon as the hat appears in your inventory, log into your new character and hit a districut about 40 dists higher than your previous and he'll usually be just starting the Mad King Says. Last event I got 3 hats, one for 3 different chars.

So start off on higher dist like 2, 3, or 10 than after you got the hat. Switch character and go the the bottom dist such as 40, 50, and 60.

Guess i'll have to get most of my characters to Kamamda first.

I may throw this in Sardelac, but I think the ultimate solution here would be to make holiday items like the helms customized to the account and not the character. My further idea is to make customization to the account for everything. Customization keeps you from making money off an item after you get the bonus for it (for wpns), keeps u from avoiding events to get the item (holiday hats), or keeps someone else from buying high-end armour for your first time through the game. With account customization, you can get one pumpkin hat and wear it on whichever char you are using. It would also allow you to trade your weapons between your characters and heroes without being able to sell them if htey are customized. Once you have played through the game, the high level armnour doesn't ruin anything for u on subsequent characters and most ppl don't make a career out of low level arenas.

point: make holiday items customized to account and not character. The guy that mentioned hardcore players not wanting one for each character is not correct in all cases. There are different types of hardcore players. Some people as many of their 13 slots to be able to wear holiday hats if they want to :-) It still applies for those of us that work and would like a couple of chars to have them.

i have 6 toons that i wanted wicked hats for with 4 opportunites left (with the every 3hrs deal @9 12 3 6 GMT+10) and figured i could pull it off.. but i didnt wanna be hassled with it for the next however many hours..

so this last round @ 9.. i started off in ad2.. worked my way up districts.. got three.. thought ok, let's keep goin...
and LOL somehow i got into ad 108 and 109.. (or whatever of the last districts)...which were full.. got 2 more.. total of 5. Now for that last 1. no worries mate :\

so there's hope out there for ya'll trying to get all ya toons with hats or heads.. or both.. or whatever...

yeah I just managed to get my last character able to get one (1 is perm pre-sear, another I'm going to delete) for a total of 8 chars and I was gone for two rounds. He just needs the warlock one now and I'm done. during one round I changed districts and characters and managed to get 5 hats (different ones for5 different chars) at it rolled down, but I had to be quick and keep clicking/attempting to get into full districts.. obsession isn't a job, it's a way of life... lol rofl

oh, and other than that I watched It's The Great Pumpkin , Charlie Brown/made Caramel Apples with the family :-) Customized per account would be neat.. I defintely will be picking one or two next time as my character profile is about to grow a few....

it's not too hard to get the number of hats you want, I got upwards of 4 hats per appearance of the mad king. I had my 14 total hats (7 chars, 2 each) by the 6pm PST appearance of the mad king. Like others were saying, start in low districts, and once u get ur hat there, log out and log back in with another char in a higher district and the mad king should still be there handing out hats and gifts. Hopefully some people are able to use this advice for the 2 remaining appearances of the mad king...

Well I managed to snag me 4 hats with two computers and using the tricks provided by previous posters. Thanks a million, my little cousin also thanks all of you too now that he has 2 bags of candy (mine and his) to rot his little teeth out on.

However, this still doesn't change my opinion that something needs to be done about this holiday thing. I was lucky that I could get home in time to catch the last King visit, but there are some folks who couldn't make it to any of the visits and will not be able to get their crown or hat this year due to holiday or work obligations. I think account wide customization would help ease the mad rush for multiple account/multiple character players but having something in the vien of the dragon fesitval where you can quest or turn something in for the hat would also be a great boon. Like the wintersday quests would be ideal for halloween. Nothing to difficult so the low levels can do em but allows for the spirit of the holiday to come through and people can do them at their leisure (because who the hell wants to be stressed on a holiday?).
