Default Nightfall: Too much of a grind?

Before I get into this too deeply, I must say that I really like Nightfall and see it as an improvement over Factions. The one thing that has bothered me about it is that there seems to be a lot of monotonous questing between missions and general sunspear point farming needed for much of it. Admittedly I have experienced this the most with my non-nightfall characters that I have brought over as I work to get them to Sunspear General rank.

My question is: Do you think that there is too much emphasis on quest/sunspear point farming as opposed to missions in this game?

For all those who have finished the game, I must also ask if the game ever picks up or if the "gain enough sunspear rank to continue" is a constant blockade from progression.

I like the "monotonous" quests personally. They really add to the flavor of the game and make you care about what you are doing. Don't look at trying to get through an area very fast but instead see it as an actual world that you are helping "save." The sunspear points are not a hinder at all, as long as whenever you are completing quests you take the orders from the scouts or priests later in the game.

Actually no, the only 'grind' for non-Elonians is to get to Sunspear General, which is really easy and fast anyway. After this, you are no longer required to up your Sunspear rank.

Nightfall is a bit of a grind but it's so much fun! Even though you are grinding in some parts, Anet made the grind into fun! Getting sunspear general was a bit of a grind but it gave me a chance to cap all the avatar elites for my dervish and do some interesting quests

I never have noticed it so far. Just doing the quests and killing monsters got me to 1.5k sunspear points without much trouble. I still have at least 5 quests to do, each worth 100 sunspear points, and probably get 200-400 doing the quests as well, with the bounties.

I have 6 pve chars. Its a grind. Getting off the noobie island was a grind. Getting 2500 was a boring task.

Compare it to factions. You only had to get 10k faction once. After that... you could rush each char through easily.

=/ i don't mind it right now, i was short some points after finishing a quest so i decide to clear the area.
Found some more quests in part of the area i would have over looked other wise...
i have yet to see how annoying it is with bringing a character over.

I will admit, some of the quests are pretty amusing and I have paid more attention to the story line with quests than I ever have. My favorite quest so far has to be Koss's Elixer, lol.

i thoughraly enjoyed the 'grind' to get sunspear general, mostly because i did it without killing a single monster for the wandering preists, all the quests in the surrounding area of the command post are intresting and they vary in many diverse and unique ways, i was never bored, i also throughraly enjoyed walking the large drake

Seriously, we're not even a week in and it's a GRIND?

Eesh. So much for taking things slow and enjoying the scenery....

I suggest you stop grinding and go PvP if its that boring. As for a task.. you mean work? This is a game, not work. If you don't enjoy it do not play it.

Indeed it is a grind in some places. But as mentioned above I have had fun getting my sunspear points. Well that is until I had to get to general, that was an hour of meaningless grind that I did not enjoy one bit. The thing that bothers me the most is the new mission set up, they take away locked gates only to implement this? Its going to be terrible getting through the game with me 9 pve characters. >_>

The Sunspear Point requirements allowed me to "stop and smell the roses" instead of blasting through the story full speed. Getting them doesn't take that long and, more importantly, it's fun getting them.

It can be a grind but for me I like to explore so while exploring I was also killing monsters for the priests. Clearing an area can net up to 1-2k in points depending on how large the area is. I havent finished (been taking my time doing all the quests and missions) yet so I realy dont know much but am pretty far into it. I enjoy some parts but others are a little boring. Checking out the scenery is always fun.

I think that the noob island is perhaps a little too long. In chapter1 I left pre as soon as possible (didn't like it) factions I used a lvl20 char so I never went to the noob island and now in NF I'm finding the quests just to get a mission to activate slightly annoying.

GW's players are spoiled, people have already beaten the game, how much of a grind could there be.

Sunspear points are so easy to get its crazy, kill monsters for a couple hours and its over. Thats just my 2 cents.

the next thing for anet to work on is how theey present the quest text.

the npc should move moving about too.

yo improve the rpg, I say when anet is making the next chapter make sure to include or ask ideas from jeff grubb.

he will must likely know have an idea to improve the rpg

The so far is really good

You can't really compare Istan to Pre-sear... Istan encompasses, in terms of chapter one (by level) all of presear to the desert (docks mission). It's a faster progression from base to 20 than proph, but slower than faction (Which, imo, was too abrupt).
