I've written software in a variety of environments - GW reminds me of the Open Source stuff I've worked on.
Because of their target audience there is a certain attitude of give me everything for free. After all, isn't Anet coming pretty dang close to that? WoW could screw them over WAY more, but you already expect to get screwed there so it's not an issue. In fact, people tend to be happy that they weren't screwed as bad as they expected.
What I always wonder is where are these people going to go? I've yet to see a complaint that another game comes even close to being what they want. Of course, there are complaints that are just that - complaints (I have my gripes with GW too). But that is different from the Rage many express - again it is similar to what I see in Open Source groups when you do not do exactly what they want. But then, I expect that is why you tend to see the same people Rage time after time after time after time (and threaten to quit) - in the end there isn't anything else like GW. That and in a week or two traders will be stocked and new farming strategies will abound. That and in another couple of weeks this stuff will be normal like the last changes.
*sigh* I always hated dealing with forums and newsgroups on Open Source projects. Especially so when a new major release was first out.

i was hoping inscriptions would work on "old" weapons, cos ive collected tons of them, but there is the advanced salvage options now, so ill just go through my collection and salvage mods etc and stick em on collector/crafter weapons, or other drops...
its a mild annoyance for me, i dont care to much about rare skins, just aslong as it looks nice

And you're just angry because your precious stash was threatened and still in danger of being rendered "worthless" in your mind.
I mean geezus, where the hell did he say that he wanted to gain from the loss of others?

for about the 500th time, i couldnt care less.
they made inscriptions work the EXACT way i had wanted (i had proposed this exact method in the inscriptions thread, though anet probably didnt read my post, it doesnt change the fact that this was the best way to handle it.) and yet, i dont own nightfall.
and chances are, i probably never will.
why? i simply dont have the time to invest in another chapter anymore, something which i made VERY clear multiple times in the inscription thread, and something your feeble mind couldnt grasp.
my interest in not makign inscriptions retroactive was to save guildwars from a chaotic economy, and to keep an element of play in the game that extended the game life for people who havent yet bought the game, or just like something to do post meta-game.
as for the idiotic notion that my collections would plummet with retroactive inscriptions, if they HAD made them retroactive, i would have been able to outfit weapons with no-condition modifications from some of my other weapons. and while some of the lower end items, and a few higehr end ones would lose value, no condition weapons' prices would have SKYROCKETED. apart from the general fact that even with a plummet in weapon value, i would still be extremely wealthy just from the sheer volume of items i possess, let alone the gold, ecto and materials.
the fact that you cannot comprehend that others have alternative motivations other than self-gratification is testimony to your own self-centered need for greed.

this was the exact motivation of most pro-inscriptionists, and if it isnt an outlook of greed, i dont know what is.
the fact of the matter is that even if i were in it for greed, so are you and (most) other inscriptionists, and if both arguments stem formt he same point of self-enhancement, then neither can take the moral highground.
bearing that in mind, that would force the 2 sides of argument to be relegated to the realm of common sense, fact-based predictions and economics; lines of argument you abandoned.
so even if my argument had been out of greed, it was still more coherent and valid than yours, which was also based off of greed. so, in the absence of moral superiority, we would have won the argument of logic anyway.

The motivation of pro-inscriptionists is to not have to deal with greedy people like you to get some weapons with nice skins and nice stats.
Sadly, that is not happening for Prophecies or Factions specific weapons anytime soon, and the price of perfect +5 energy, +15%^50%, +15%-5energy stays high. Greedy people are very happy.

Well... Fellblade, Sephis Axe, Brute Sword skins all drop in Elona as inscriptable weapons. Who knows what other "Rare Tryian" skins you will see there.
