Generally the labels are correct.

Unfortunately, you know that if they allowed the word in any form, some 'tard would make a name like "Killajew Today" (ick, I feel slimy even writing that) or something stupid like that, in which there could be no mistaking the intent.
Still, it seems like they could allow inclusions of certain words such as "jewel". That one seems like more of a technology issue.

You make one, I'll make the other, and I'll race you
But seriously, I confess to finding this issue extremely interesting and I admit to having some sympathy for Anet here, on the one hand any restrictions are going to cause some negative comment, but on the other total freedom would probably bring a lot worse, and opens the door for a whole lotta lawsuits...
Humbly, I think that they've got it about right; yeah I know that it's not perfect, some abusive names get through and some perfectly normal ones get rejected, but not enough to seriously impair anyone's game either way.
Don't you think its weird though? How stereotypes in the real world affect us in the world of Guild Wars, when behind that attractive, tall, dark skinned elementalist girl there's probably a skinny white guy or any other permutation of appearance, race and gender. Odd...

It's not the words, generally, that are offensive, it's the RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOed up people reading too much into it, and sticking their noses too far ahead of it and assuming just because YOU see something some way, everyone else has to as well.
Try naming something, anything, with the word 'gay' in it. People automatically assume you mean homosexual, or lesbian. Not happy, not cheerful. Try putting fag into something, same story, even though, even the dimmest of the dim knows what a fag started out as before people twisted the language to fit their own definitions. Of course, we have people, like those above, who insist on using the terms with negative intent, but that is just childish.
By the way, reading people say that 'token' is racist, please.... even used in the reference as the 'token black male' there is no racism in that phrase, it's still the root meaning of token, meaning, the representation of.
It was probably banned because people tend to use 'token' in reference to the drug culture. Racist? No.

Token a reference to drug culture? Thats a new one... Usually the names make me laugh, Im not too easily offended, even if someone had a name like "Cracka Killer", doesnt really bother me, unless of course, the in-game chat matches the racist, homophobic, sexist, ect name theyre using. That would seem to indicate that that person(if you can call them that) actually holds those beliefs. Thats why theres a temp ban, then perma-ban for repeat offenses.

Would I have just wrote, what I had written a couple posts above, if that was my first thought?
No.
Unlike most, I come from pre 1985 when suddenly, every word became a loose urban slang term for something else.

ok, sry 4 my shallow judgement of ur character, wat i meant to say is, yes, most ppl do take it that way, but if they do, they should already be used to the daily (yes daily) use of f*ck, sh*t etc etc, even the racist crap is kinda common

labelling is not bad, it's basic human thought process to label things. even words like noob as labels help organize things, and words like girl and boy etc really help label things.
you're bad bad. shame on you.
and bad name bannage is cute as long as they get fair warning..
