I'm 99.9% sure that this will involve the Wintersday PvE event.

The point is, these are being given as the rewards for this PvP playoff season, and yet they're useless items. There is a bit of a disconnect.

And in addition to that, the PvE players will have an opportunity to obtain them as well. I am thinking something like the collectors from last Wintersday is what Gaile means, in which case they will be ridiculously easy to obtain in PvE and thus, an even dumber PvP tournament prize.

If there were some kind of PvE competition such that only a few of the best PvEers could get them, I'd be happy. It's my opinion that the PvP would be the more difficult route, but at least they'd still be limited in quantity.

If they're available from collectors and easy farming, it's idiotic that they're also the reward for the PvP tournament. The PvP rewards are a great way for the top PvPers to get something special, and it's a shame if they're offered free from grind in that case. Why would they be tournament rewards at all?

Making them max + moddable would make sense if they were a limited edition item, since using them would be a status symbol. The fact that they're non-max indicates to me that it will be like last year. As a PvP player who was hoping to make tournament, that's rather disappointing to me.

Well, it gives me no incentive to attempt tournament, that's for sure. (Not that I've ever particualrly cared much for tournaments. )

Are you people playing for fun, or just to rub peoples noses in the cool junk you've got?

On the subject of weapon strength, maybe anet could consider coming up with a system of leveling gimmic weapons to match the wielder? Like hero armour.

Just a thought.

If the PvE players can also acquire the reward for the PvP tournament, what incentive is there to participate in the tournament, since it is considerably more difficult to be successful in PvP than it is against AI?

Like it was mentioned before just because they are not max damage does not mean they are useless. They have NO req. Anyone can use them and get fair damage out of them. Plus they are cute. :-)

I completely agree with some of the people here that making it available to all PvE'ers to grind by farming charr carvings makes it completely pointless as a tournament reward, so why should anyone bother trying to win the tournament if they can spend 10 minutes killing charr and getting more than just a shield (which is what you get if you finish 32nd). The cape trims are worth the effort alone, and adding in some stupid candy cane weapons is not adding anything if everyone can get 20 of them through killing some little charr.

Peppermint shield is handy for pvp. 10AL with a +5e/+5 AL sword will give a caster 75AL base - which is nice. Also, lowers your e levels which is great to guard against e-denial builds.

Gotta love the elitest pvpers... moaning cos they cant just show of their candy cane swords as a badge of honour... hint, you already have that, just show your chumpionship points.

GG anet, Its nice that pvpers and pvers have the chance to get some goodies.

We're whining because Anet is going to allow PvE players the opportunity to acquire the exact same items through PvE as we will receive for a PvP tournament. PvE is much, much easier than tournament PvP.Why bother? Now, if the PvE ones are the same as last years (No req, mid-low dmg, non-moddable) and the PvP ones are max and moddable with req7 or req8, then it's much more reasonable to give them out as tournament prizes and let the PvE'ers have their collectable farming to turn in for the regular ones.

Sure shields are great for casters. However, the correct comparison is between this 10AL shield vs. an 8AL shield with 30HP and -5 physical damage absorption 20% of the time. Of course, the latter wins.

I think you're misunderstanding. The main problem for most PvP players with this tournament & reward system is not that the PvE players can get the same items. Rather, it's that the items themselves are all but useless in PvP.

Sure it's fun to give 'goodies' to PvPers too, but that should supplement some sort of actual desirable reward...

The main thing is that unless I'm mistaken, these are only slightly better than if you were to use a max item even without meeting the requirement. That is to say, the way the game works, if you don't meet the req., you still do a portion (somewhere around half unless I'm mistaken) of the listed damage/whatever, and the max item will actually have useful inherent bonuses/mods.
