Default Melee Weapons Unfair Advantage over Casters

I've been chest running lately, the double drop weekend a month or so ago got me into it...one thing that i noticed alot during that double drop and certainly still is the mods on the weapons...for instance...I'm chest running around Cavalon, I opened a chest and got what looked like it was going to be a perfect gold air staff... Halves Recharge of Spells 20%, energy +10, Lighting dmg 11-22, req 12( ok so not the lowest) ...then i ID it...hoping that the rest of the staff will turn out nicely...it doesnt....it has a 'halves casting time of water magic spells' and a fortitude +30 ... a potenially good staff is runied by the lack of cocherance in mods ...meele weapons do not have this problem, im not going to get a bow, or sword with some werid and wonderful mods... this really needs to be sorted out or re thought...

Any comments?

yeah,i agree. You never see swordmanship 10 and then get an Axe Mastery+1 (20%) on there.. it's always appropriate ot the weapon... I've seen alot of odd combos on staff before...Healing with Fire... Illusion with Water, alot of strange combos... I suppose they're ncie if you use the primary/secondary, but alot of times it's just plain stupid.

That's way now you have Inscriptions
And now you do have a sword ( melee weapon) with weird inscriptions on, like recharge or casting time of spells.

Like my Insightful Fire staff of Death magic?
11-22 (forgor req)
Halves water recharge x%
Halves illusion cast x%
Death +1 (x%)

PS: i REALLY had such a thing, although i forgot the exact stats.

now that's just piggin' ridiculous. The worst you can get off a sword/axe/hammer/bow is a +X% vs a certain type of enemy but as Kyosuke said you don't find bow mastery grips on swords...

You realize that if the halve casting time of water is 20%, it is escentially a "perfect" water staff. Sure, it won't be worth anything to a buyer, but it is a great staff to use. You don't have to meet the requirement of staffs to use them. Who the heck worries about wand/staff damage other then high end weapons dealers (and maybe SS/SV necros who need to wand to death DNs in UW)?

I've had a lot of swords and axes with a lengthens poison duration 33% seems kinda useless.. but then I started to use a warrior ranger with apply poison and bleeding skills.. works as a nice degen ^^ Hooray for weird upgrades

I used to find a lot of gold staffs in FOW w/ mods that spanned across 3 classes =)
eg. +1 prot 20%, 20% faster recharge death, halves the cast time of domination 20%

Of course when I'd tried to salvage the mod, I'd often end up w/ "5 wood planks" yay.

At least now you can salvage almost all things from the staff and make a new one. ALso many of the upgrades now claim to upgrade item's attribute (the req one) thus s staff that needs water will have water things benefit...but I only saw that on the pvp item maker. I hope it works similar in pve.

Ah yes, the weird old days. Hydras outside of Augury were the champsions in dropping "Things That Make You Go OMGWTF?!". Req 13 Earth magic staff with 20% HCT Healing, 19% HSR Illusion and a 16% +1 Curses. That's like 4in1.

Its not only caster weapons, it also happens with shields:

How about a perfect Whammo shield:

req9, +1 to healing prayers (20% chance)

Or same with +1 curses or whatever... friggin useless, but 1/1000000 builds.
