Heck, my three main solo farming builds weren't nerfed and still work well.
In fact, one of them got buffed big time (just try to figure that one out).

Collector's collector's collector's! They have weapons, armor, shields...for....items that drop when you play the game. Kind of free!
On a side note. I am almost always broke (not complaining stating fact), because...I choose to be. My money sink is 15k armor, not FoW but the others. 14 characters and half so far have 15k armor. I use collector weapons on almost everything. Now I just have to figure out how many of each need! Let see 14 (+5 new slots for Nightfall purchase) * 14 Heros per character ......8 )

lol I tried getting collector's armor... But for some reason, the items the collector wants barely drop for me when I'm in a party of 8. Wonder why that would be... Oh wait, is it perhaps because the drops one gets in a full party of 8 are close to nothing, and that's why people used to farmin the first place?
But collector's armor I only need once. Across all my characters I have over 60 heroes that need decent weapons. When I have enough collectable drops to trade in for weapons, the new chapter might already be out...

I know what you mean, bleached shells anyone! Those usually end up getting bought for 1k, but that's only one of five pieces of armor that require it. Nightfall on the other hand has been nice to me. The one guildmate I play with is pretty cool. He and I play characters together so if either of us need a specific item and the other has it we just give it. He and I both have max AL Nightfall collector's armor now.
To help get those drops also. I will go back to an area where I know I can get the specific drop and take as few hench as possible, this increases the chance that I will get those items. I have done the desert with just my warrior and the two monks. Southern Shiverpeaks I add a warrior to the brew and one caster due to the loss of the Prot monk.

Since you were obviously looking for a get rich quick guide, heres a nice simple one to net you millions...
Step 1:

Step 2:
Go to Lion Arch, dist 1
Step 3:
Locate the cage, next the rune trader
Step 4:

Step 5:
Start dancing for tips in cage

You can easily make enormous amounts of gold playing the traders, the players. I call it Kingpinning the market. I bought 250 of each type of jewel when they were 2.6k-3k ea at the trader. I resold MANY of them yesterday for 3.5-3.8k to the trader. Total Profit= 300k+
I will not give my market strategies out, that would eliminate my kingpin on it, but.... if you learn how the supply and demand track systems work in the economy, you can control the rare mats market. Skins are still worth a lot of money, and with customizeable stats, you can now create a high powered RARE skinned item and still sell it for a lot of gold.
|
Ecto never hit 3k to my knowledge.
Buying 250 saph/rubies and selling for that small a profit was hardly worth the effort.
No one person can control the market no matter what market it is.
Inscription created weapons will be in mass circulation soon, 15^50 inscriptions drop on the noob island..they will be worth next to nothing in a few weeks.
Most skins are worth next to nothing, a req8 15^50 chaos axe can be bought for <100k if you shop around. Faction skins are digging their grave as we speak.
20/20/20 greens will hit the gold stave market fairly hard because even I might hit the greens considering the stats on some of them.
More realistic view...

Yeah, what he said. I haven't done anything in UW before and only been in FOW once, but whenever I do SF or Tombs I've always picked everything up that I could. Heck even if I never got any greens or good golds I still end up with about 2-3k just from merchanting the drops plus the gold that drops for the group. Yet I've seen many many people that never bother to pick up the regular junk that drops. Perhaps it's because of inventory space, but nevertheless a lot of people don't do it.

Buy them as you need them. You'll find that, no matter what build you are creating, it's highly liklely that you won't use up to 50% of those skills.
Many people buy all the skills simply for the comfort/convienence of knowing that they are there if they ever need them. The truth of the matter is that they ARE always available to them - by simply taking a couple of seconds to map to a major town and buying them when they need them.

I don't understand how you can be poor..
Jeez,I've only played the game casually and I have unlocked all skills in Prophecies and Factions on all 5 of my PvE Characters(A W/Mo with 15k,A Me/N,A R/E,A Ritualist and an Assassin.)I've outfitted them with Superior Vigor runes and the like, and yet I still have a vast amount of wealth.
Heres the kicker:I've never farmed an hour in this game.Never.

Buy low sell high
This is the best way to make money in GW and real life.
Start out by farming. Get enough for a ecto or two. Buy them at a low price 5k - 6k each. When the market hits 8k - 9k sell them. You just made 6k. Its take a while and this is a long term solution but if you manage to get enough to buy in bulk you can make a killing fast.
example
50 ectos at 6k
sell at 8k thats 2k per ecto (profit) or 100k. Don't touch this money! this is your investment money. Do it again. In a few months you will have over a million gold.

Jono's pieces of advice ;)
My tips:
#1. Make a ranger
#2. Play ranger through NF (i havent completed yet have made ~25k off factions char so i didnt do noob island)
#3. Look out for sales like 'WTS Lots of Golds come look' then compare what their asking between their GW guru auction price. I bough a 15^50 sword for 3k sold 15mins later for 25k.
#4. Do 3 man UW trapping
#5 do FoW forest farming (i cant do this due to not having some req. prophercies skills) i heard it was profitable.
#6 Stockpile ALL rare mats. As was mentioned earlier you can make huge profits of steel nowadays, i just made ~2k off 10.
Thats it, hope it opens up oppurtunities. Also i have 15k armor but it was 1 week of hard FF fdor it. I have over 135k now. my big peice of advice: only spend money if you absolutely need to! That doesnt mean dont treat yourself with 15k etc. But always have something to fall back on as people who's famring techniques are useless now have dicovered.

Again, no one should be consider poor in guild wars, there is nothing that you absolutely need that are expensive that affects game play.
People complaining because they want 1.5k armors when they have no gold, they want 15k armors when they can only afford 1.5k, they want fow armor when they can only afford 15k. They want green items when they can only afford collectors weapons, they want uber gold skin when they only can afford green weapons. Dude, for pve, even if you are using a customized 15^50 weapon with NO mods, collector armors with no extra energy, how much it affects your game? not much at all. Since it's pve, it really doesnt matter. You don't need perfect stat in pve. Heck, people I know beat the whole game with starter armor. And if you want to make your pve character rdy and you can't afford it, then just make a pvp character.
This game is all about skills, if you dig those pixels please go play wow AFTER you finish the night fall story. If you don't pvp, guild wars have no end game that will satisfy your needs. I know some one that farm greens and ectos only in groups and with henches. He's too scared to solo. He has 4 sets of FOW's! Please don't complain that you cannot make money. If you want your fow, you must work for it. but then in the end, YOU DON't NEED IT. It will only make you look more like a NOOB, especially in pvp.
Once I discuss skill choice with a w/mo in arena, he said he's not a noob and he is right because he has 2 sets of FOW. LOL

The best way to get money is to spend less money. Realize that the difference between a +29 health mod and +30 health mod and other such minor differences mean nothing.

Best way to make money in real life is to find a niche in the market and exploit it.
Buying and selling ecto is not something a poor person should ever consider. To make a decent profit form ecto you need to buy/sell in stacks otherwise the profit gained just doesn't match the time spent.

not to mention, the risk is fairly substantial.
if you want to invest in something that makes money, you dont want to invest in something too long-term, since the longer you hold it the more risk you take.
the easiest way to make (and lose) money is to trade in gold weapons.
if you want to invest in stuff that holds value simply buy COMMON materials.
the amount wood sells for now, is pretty much the same it sold for a year ago, the same cannot be said of most gold items, runes, shields, etc. the downside is that the potential for profit is pretty much nil.
for holding wealth, common mats is about as secure as it gets.
