Update some might not know about
Something not many people know after Nightfall release. Just a friendly heads up.
Since Nightfall release, You have been able to salvage Quest Reward Items and Collectors items for their mods.
Two big uses for this are:
1) Get the mods you put into a collectors weapon back if you no longer use the weapon. Before now collectors stuff couldnt be salvaged for mods, but now you can relatively feel safe putting those perfect mods on a collectors weapon.
2) Some Collectors stuff around Ascalon have mods on them already. Notable Ones include: Various Elemental mods for alot of weapons, Barbed sword hilt, and the +25% vs charr charrslaying mods (this one is great because these mods taken from these collectors items are above the normal max of 20%). Also some quest rewards have good mods to be taken off, most notable ones are: Poisoner's string from quest in jungle, and Perfect Furious mod from Villainy of Galrath quest reward.
Don't know if its intended, or a leftover from the Bug where you were able to salvage mods off of Bonus weapons - But its handy indeed.

Hmm.. hadn't thought of salvaging the old collector's items and such. There's probably a bit of money to be had there.

You could always salvage mods that you put on collector wep off. just now you can salvage the mods that are already there.

No, you could never before salvage mods you had put onto a collectors item or quest reward item.

No, I'm pretty sure that you couldnt. You're probably thinking of weapons that you craft at the weapons trader not collectors weapons.

You can't salvage an inscription from something that doesn't have one. Only items dropped in Elona carry inscriptions. I did enough undead farming during Halloween, and none of the +X (condition) damage mods on the things that dropped for me in Tyria could be salvaged for inscriptions. The only salvage options were mods (+hp, +enchanting) and crafting materials.

Tried this with a fire wand that had +30 health from a collector just outside of Gates of Kryta.....it failed. It will not let you salvage from collector items.

Thanks, I just got 39 piles of glittering dust from a collectors item
No dialog what to salvage just 39 piles of glittering dust.
It was a Ritualist focus item with -2 damage recieved +45 health (both while enchanted). (Value 300g)
I strongly suggest this thread is deleted immediately.

So, the OP is wrong and you CAN'T salvage from collectors items? Yeah it should be deleted or amended if that's the case....

The OP is right. You just need to use an item that has an oldschool mod on it. You couldn't mod a ritualist focus, hence you can't salvage a mod off of one. You get dust. I also wonder if they should fix that 25% charrslaying mod.

Ok...Let me explain:
YOU CAN ONLY SALVAGE MODS
A mod is something like "[whatever] of Fortitude" or "Barbed [whatever]"
Just like Pyro said "You can't salvage an inscription from something that doesn't have one." - well you Can't Salvage a Mod off something that doesn't have a mod on it..
I post this information to help the community because not many people know about it, and all I get is people that criticize me because they didn't think before they salvaged something (probably blinded by the first thought that they might make some quick cash off a glitch)
:\

These 15^50 collectors items are just like chapter 1 and 2's - the 15^50 is inherent and not from a Strength and Honor Inscription, so no you cannot salvage it off.

If this is intended, they will probably get around to nerfing it to 20% like they did the Rockmolder, etc. It isnt a huge thing though, so it takes them months to put these into a patch.
Right now though, the only "free money" to be made is off of various elemental mods and condition mods (both of which not worth even selling) and 1 Perfect Furious mod from the Villiany of Galrath quest, and I can't see creating characters to "farm" a quest thats half way through chapter 1 to get a mod worth 5-10k.
Naw, the biggest advantage of this is taking YOUR mods that you put on collectors stuff back off.

Ah. Thanks for the clarification. What threw me off was that the +30 couldnt be salvaged off a focus....and that's still considered a mod, but apparently only "old type" mods can be salvaged. Too bad....

Yep same here. I just don't see this as game breaking in any sense with the way it currently is and it's nice to be able to get mods you put on a collector weapon back now, though the chance for salvaging without destroying still sucks.

+30 is a mod for a Focus now (its "of fortitude", just like +30 on weapons), but it was only an inherent effect (not a mod) before Nightfall and at the collectors.
Its not only "old type" mods, its any normally salvagable mod. IE: any mod you could salvage off the item if it was gold.
Examples:
If weapon has 15^50 on it <- cant salvage it off (inherent)
If it has "inscription: Strength and honor 15^50" <- CAN salvage it off
If focus has +30hp on it <- cant salvage it off (inherent)
if it has "of fortitude +30 hp" on it <- CAN salvage it off
Get it? It has to be an ACTUAL MOD thats normally salvagable...Just isnt some glitch or trick, its just telling you collectors and quest items now behave like normal items.

I never said this is some game breaking ZOmG thing...I said It is a helpful update that not many people know about - so i was letting the information out. Its their own fault if they got big $'s in their eyes when they read my statements.

Yes. I understand. Thanks for that. I just never tested it out on collector's items and collector's items never were salvageable for mods until now. Thus the confusion on my part.

Former ruling please drop the attitude.
Accusing me of having big $ in my eyes and what not that wasn't the case at all, I just took the only Nightfall collectors item I had and tested it on that.
A better explanation would have been in order, but thanks for making the discovery.

This now gives me a reason to do Villainy of Galrath on some of my other characters, since I have use for the furious mod.
