Well i think i'm happy about this, I kinda wish they'd waited until we'd found all the bosses and had a list of all the greens. I've finished the game twice and explored a fair bit but i'm still bumping into new bosses all over the place and wouldn't have a clue what half of them drop. Hopefully they'll do it again a bit later.
well well this thread is playing out exactly like the Canthan 3x green drop weekend. And back in that thread I recall making a point that now seems even more valid.
Back in the 3x Canthan green drop, I commented it was a cool idea, but since it came at the tail end of that game's 6 months, that by then everyone pretty much had all the greens they wanted. Fine. I concluded that making it about half way through (ie, 3 months into it) would have been optimal.
Well now here we are at the opposite end of that, this is the 3rd weekend into the game. While again, I won't complain, this is too early. I only just got to the Realm of Torment with my farming Warrior, and only played a tiny bit with my other characters. It would be nice to have explored the entire game, get an idea of the layout, where the bosses are, especially the easier to farm / most desirable uniques, etc.
Again, I'm not complaining, but it would be nice to have a bit more time playing this game, exploring it, understanding it, before jumping right into the rat race that is farming. Looks like I'll be spending the little playing time I have during the week unlocking the towns in Realm, as well as trying to get my farming Necro as far as I can.
Perhaps some players need to understand some basic principles again:
Greens are the causal players equal of perfectly modded gold items, they are there to provide easy access to max modded items by playing through the game "hopefully" normally, not to fuel the economy.
There has been some reports of observations that drop rates have been decreased but this could be likely due to more players playing with Heros+Hench, hence resulting in an illusion of lesser assigned drops, with this 3x weekend, it serves to help players who might like to obtain such of a green item to do so. Please consider how this might benefit more players than your own pixelated wallets.
Wow people clearly need something to complain about. First there is the 11+ pages of Elona boring already... so they have this green weekend and the majority are complaining about drops when it *hasn't even started yet* It's kinda sad really the lenghts some will go to but it's so much easier to hate.. such is games such is life.
Anyway I'm excited about it. I'll get some greens for my heroes and so forth.
Online games are always about the virtual ego. Majority of people want to show others than they are better. Unfortunately this is a cold fact and the biggest reason why GW doesn't have 6 million accounts.
heh, bigger isn't always better. look at Nintendo, the smallest, yet most profitable of the big 3...
Feel it's too early for an event too. Hope the "we're bored" thread hasn't caused this, as I thought that was a more general discussion about Guild Wars rather than a we want an event thread.
Maybe I'm being paranoid but perhaps A.Net ran some reports over the player base and found that they're either not taking to Nightfall or leaving after it's done?
EDIT: spelling mistake

Odd, I would have said that of collector items, not greens. I don't see how the drop rates of green weapons facilitate "easy access ... by playing through the game". Unless you're referring to the end-game greens obtained from a Book of Secrets of course...
Hope I get some decent greens my heroes need something beside starter items lol
Good idea imo, will bring chaos to my green baseline pricing guide for a little while though..
I really don't think it will be as big of a problem this early on. In fact most greens at this point don't really have a baseline price so this just seems to get the ball rolling in my opinion.

No i am not refering to the end game greens. you got to re-read my post again. Sorry cant help you there.
Since the drop rate for anything apart from tyiran greens is as close to ZERO as makes no difference it would'nt make a different if they had 50 times as likely weekend you still would'nt get any.
oh and theres a difference between 3 to the power of 0 and 3 times 0. Anything times 0 IS ZERO.

Try not passing your opinion off as "cold fact" next time. Online games may always be about vitual ego for you, but not neccessarily for the next player. I have very little need to impress the unwashed masses on Anet. This seems like the same kind of thinking that makes some fools believe that a gold item is better than a blue/purple/white item with the same stats. Another thing, where exactly can I look up this "cold fact" that Anet doesn't have 6 million accounts because of whatever it is you're claiming?

There is a little thing called enconomy and you are messing with it big time. Nightfall hasnt even been out a full month and you are allready skrewing the pony with this weekend event.
Greens should be able to mature with some time ( not less then 3 weeks) so that the vaule of them will stablize. Once they have been around for a while people will except a certin price range for them.
Now if you do this at this point in nightfall's life, you can ruin the NF greens forever. We all know once green rate increases price goes down. After this weekend so early in the game, the green prices may never recover. So like greens will be worth like 10-20k a piece and will mess up with the green farmers that use that for their source of making money.
PLEASE dont do this now. Wait like a month or two so more people will get further in the game so they will have a chance to get those greens they want/need.
Gaile STOP THIS NOW BEFORE IT RUINS THE BRAND NEW NIGHTFALL!!!
Thank you chicken little, but I don't think the sky is falling just yet. Heaven forbid Anet make greens more available at the expense of farmer's profits...that will just ruin the game. <-sarcasm in case you didn't realize it
I doubt I will partake much in the event simply because my characters are not that deep into the game yet. Plus I am not very impressed with the stats on most of the Elonian greens that I have seen so far, they seem inferior to Canthan greens. I guess I just will have to buck the trend and not give into my supposed vitual ego by getting the fotm skin that so many think is uber. I also don't think this kind of event contradicts Anet's alleged anti-farming stance. If greens become more common, they will likely command a lower price and make them that much less attractive to farm. This may just be a way Anet thinks they can nip Elonian green farming in the bud before it becomes an industry.
I'm not saying that green farming will become an industry or that this event would reduce farming for sure, just an observation. I am not one to roll out my opinions as "cold facts" that are etched in stone and undeniable.
P.S. - Seems like a bad weekend to do this for the GW community because of the Wiki problems. I have no doubt that most people would like to use GuildWiki extensively for farming info. Oh well, here's to hope that the site can be brought back to life!

Is there anything on forums people will not complain about? I don't know how many people were around for the release of tyria, and the subsequent months and months, but I for one LOVE the fact that Anet has been keeping weekend events going, no matter how lame they may first appear (extra XP scrolls dropping imo?). No matter what it beats the hell out of the absent parent syndrome that they seemed to have before. The economy will not suffer from this, in fact, it'll go along just fine. Besides, isn't it obvious that Anet dislikes the current state of the economy anyway? Just look at the inscription concept. Basically, you can make the rarest dropped skin in elona a 15^50 perfectly modded piece as long as it's at least a blue drop. Lowering the difficulty in obtaining a perfect item reduces the pseudo value people attach. QQ please, and when you're done, maybe you go out and nab yourself a few greens eh?
A triple drop weekend so soon ? Sorry anet but that just smacks of desperation. Maybe people are getting bored of single playing Nightfall already......
