Inscriptions system is fine, and great. The challenge would be to find rare skins and things like that, but now, there really aren't any (the single Elite mission will be farmed the F*** to hell anyway), and that seems to be what's pissing the uber-echelon people off. I'm fine with more shinies, and think it would be a lot more interesting and a bigger incentive to play through if you got to pick up some cool loot along the way. So I agree with you on one point Pudin, but I also agree w/ Naruto a bit, and whoever said "drops need to be upped". All have good points :-)

Some examples of what used to keep me interested:
-farming
-off missions (fort aspenwood, alliance battles)
-elite missions
-PvP
-Chest runs
-Help guildies
Now what:
-Farming: I dont think it has much to do with nerfs to farming... people will come up with new ways (methods and builds) to do this.
I think the bigger issue now, is that the motivation is gone to actually get out and kill mobs besides what you need to complete the "story"?. What hapenned to the "whoa! I want that item"? Maybe its the lack of creativity in the skins, or the lack of diversity in rare mods (ANET has the right idea with inscriptions, but making things cheap and common = eh I dont want to play the game to get it, I'll just buy it from Joe over here for 20 GP)
-Aspenwood/elite/Alliance battles: Once we do the "story" we need something fun to do! ....ahem.... (did I mention challenging?)
-PvP: the new campaign always puts a ripple in PvP just like Factions did. The onslaught of new builds and trying to balance unintended exploits will continue. I prefer to let the dust settle.
Needless to day yes I am bored. I've lost that loving feeling

There are far lot activities beside playing pc games. Do some of them instead of wondering why you don't want to play.
If you play straight until you drop dead every day you will get bored of course. It is absolutelly normal thing you know. It is actually worriesome if someone plays something mindlessly and DOES not get bored (some other mmorpg for instance bring that problem which later results from mental state into physical).
So when you feel bored do not try to force yourself to play otherwise you risk to get completely negative feeling for the game. Instead do something else - go outside, see some buddies, chat, read a book, do something for yourself, try some other game, etc etc etc - it is neverending variety here. After some week or two, maybe even several monts you may again regain some interest in the game (wondering about some builds, watching observer mode, reading some news or update).
Remember - noone force you to play.

Well, I read the first page and the last. All I have to say is what I tell guildmembers who say "I'm bored." I DON'T want to hear it. Log off, find something else to do, get a life, but don't log on and complain that you are bored.

Why should they. Keep in mind that most people payed for the game Before The actual update and release of the game.
So most people that purchased the game had no prewarning of the upcoming ai butchery at all. and once they had the game.. began playing.. and then got the update.. a lot of players lost all intrest in the brand new game they just purchased.. Should they take a break?
The game itself is considerd a new release still. so players should not be getting bored.. its due to the HUGE changes in the core gameplay that players are getting tired.. not the actual nightfall game.
Please read most of the thread before you post.. as this is your first post in this thread and your statement has been expressed many times.

WHy should they? Because it's the right thing to do.
As far as taking a break goes, you know she/he is refering to the old players that have played the game into the ground. I know it and you know it. Don't try to make a point by scewing the facts.
Players getting bored with nightfall have, so far, been long time Guild Wars players. After almost 3000 hours of play mostly in Tyria, I was tired of Nightfall also. But not because of the quality of Nightfall, but because I've played this game soooo dang much lol.
Narutoscryed-I know you are pissed at Anet. I am too because of some problems with their ai (enemy warriors kiting). But you come on soooo strong against a differing opinion, it may turn people against your side. You gotta remember, many people may have been total noobs when the AI was changed. By now, They have adapted to the current gameplay and are wondering what the heck you are so uset about.
I remember one of your first posts here. You spoke about the great times you had farming with friends (you expressed it a LOT better than I) I really connected with what you were talking about. Maybe you could discuss with the newer posters the way that the new ai totally screwed you and your friends over.--instead, you're attacking the poor guys and girls with the force you might apply to one of our major posters.
EDIT: My point, give the new posterrs a break and you catch a lot more flies with sugar than vinager.

These new players are going to get bored with this "new" game way faster than they would have if it had stayed the same. I was never bored until the update happened. There's nothing fun about grinding through a game.

I dont think i attacked him at all to tell you the truth.. when someone comes in and right out says they didnt pay much attention to the thread and attempts to have an opinion that striaght says players should stop playing.. ya im gonna say somthing.
I aint here to babyset new forumgoers.. if they want to have an opinion.. expecially the one that dude had.. then im gonna tell them my opinion on it.. if thats rude than sobeit.. but i really dont think it is..
Now had i said something like... well umm i dont know..
Quote:
Oh noes! I contradict people! I must be a troll! Oh wait, you're disagreeing with me, so you must be a troll too!
And you're wrong. If I posted in every thread that I disagreed with, I'd have a billion posts. And stop with the troll accusations. They're getting really old and boring. Seriously.
And I'm at "work" and I don't always play GW every waking hour.
|
Then i would be a total and completly utter asshole.. but seeings how i didnt say anything like that.. i am not.
Im not trying to attract others to my opinion.. i belive that people are entitled to the opinion that they have. im just here to speak my mind.
Now about the whole quitting thing.. dude regardless of whether i have played as much as you say.. and belive me i have not.. to be exact im at 1800 hours.. and 600 has been spent in uw..
so i do play alot.. but not nearly as much as some... what im getting at here is..
anet promises a game.. and i buy that game knowing that i can play that exact game for a very VERY long time.
Then they change a huge part of that game.. and within 2 weeks i am bored...
This is the feeling of many MANY players.. how do i know this you ask?
well unlike other people that just want an opinion to be heard i actually have read every post on this thread and i can spot a few right off the bat..
So no dude.. i was not being any more rude than is required.. because i refuse to let some dude think he can come in here and bash the people who actually are bored with one half assed paragraph.

@ ChildeOfMalkav- Agreed, I recently started a Mesmer in Tyria. Of course pre searing was pretty much the same as any character, I leveled it to lvl 5 , then left. As soon as I started leveling and gaining more and more skills, I realized just how much fun this character is to play.
Here my game was kinda settling into the doldrums when Boom! a whole new way to play arises. I can't wait to shutdown those bosses in the later difficult Missions.

I followed this thread for a bit of time now, but I didn't step in (I am not bored btw, just for the record ), since I think it's everyone's right to be bored, and even voicing that on forums.
Still as for GW I don't think it was ever suggested or hinted at, that you would get to play the exact same game you bought, that would be a standard offline game, you can get off the shelf even after 10 years and run the same way (if you can convince your hardware to run it, that is). But online games and GW too have been changed numerous times and will be too. If you look back at the GW that was released, it was tinkered with on countless spots, skills have been nerfed and buffed, core game mechanics were changed and so on.
Let me say again, you have all your right to be dissatisfied with this, but hinting at that buying GW gives you the right to play the same way forever, is just not right.
my 2 cents

No need to put up mantra of flame at all.. you made an awsome point. a very awsome point.
Do you feel at all though that they could have made the change to the ai before people had purchased nightfall in order to avoid this much trouble?
or to at least say that they are changing the core gameplay that severly. that would at least give some gamers a chance to decide if they wanna play that type of a game or not.

To bad for us HXC (yes I used HXC) players that doesn't work. Cause we've done it all! Give me back my boring grinding so I can have fun again. Because for me, this monster AI is making every thing ridiculous, the lack of content for me to use to my own advantage in NF bores me as well. Same old quests, same old story 9 charactes no thanks. But I'm rich so I don't mind as much I just waste my time in GW at Grotto.
Nice that people are still having fun, but well NF is like same old Guild Wars and I've seen it's content.

Yes, I can see where you are coming from...and in theory they probably could have announced it beforehand, but (there's always a but )
- they never did (I know it's not something to refer to, but still major updates were never really announced by Anet). Also I think I can understand their side on this too. Most changes that are altering the mechanics will affect players in all ways (there will be those who welcome it, those who don't care, and those who hate it) putting up a supposed change for open discussion, calls for endless raging at eachother by these people, with very very few constructive criticism and understanding. As far as I know they test these things on the Alphaservers (or whatever they call them) and evaluate the feedback from there. Now, we can't really know if there was some marketing scheme in delaying implementing this after NF release (as a business person, I could even understand that to some extent) or just testing and tuning was finished when it was, but let's give the benefit of doubt here, I say. Even if because they still need you for subsequent chapters, so it's no good losing players whether it is before or after releasing a new chapter.
- also I think the effect of these kinds of changes are hard to gauge from an announcement like this:
Quote:
* Monsters no longer run from AoE damage when they are very healthy, or when they think they’re very close to killing their opponent.
* Melee monsters are more intelligent about keeping themselves spread out, so that they don’t put themselves into a position where they’re highly susceptible to AoE attacks.
|
I am not too reliant in this thing, since in my PvE play I hardly noticed the changes. But I don't think even if this has been posted before, you could have guessed how it will effect your gamestyle. All it would have done is sparking speculations and rumors maybe, but then again I am not sure in this as I said
- As for farming (since I think the new AI changes hurt them most. Am I right?), I think, based on what I remember from them, Anet is not against farmers as such, so if this really hurted you bad, they might cater for you in other ways, but this is just my speculation again (and my cheerful optimism :P )
Cheers,
Opal

See, this is exactly why you are telling people to move on and take a break. You have not reached this game's end potential yet, so you do not understand anyone else's perspective. This is not your fault though, how could you when you've never experienced it! Ok, well then just to try and clear it up I'll tell you.
Once you reach the FoW level, or the 15^50 crystalline sword level, this game is done. Even if your a pvper, its just like reaching rank 9 or something. It becomes more of the same, and I know this for a fact because I am in a rank 9+ guild and every1 is very bored now. Ya, you will still play, because even with your 3000+ hours of playing or however much you have played, you really haven't accomplished that much. To me its mindboggling how in all this time you only accumulated 60k. Hell, Ive been playing for 8 months (roughly 800 hours), and I have over 4mil. But, this is not a critism to you, just an observation.
So, with this time, I do consider myself a long time player. And, I understand the odds are against me now, with anything being done. So why fight a losing battle. Dirrty and a few others left, who were the true "elite" players of this game. Bah, I know its impossible to change anything, so I no longer have a desire to participate in this. You guys can continue to fight for what you think is right, but I suggest to just quit now and wait for like GW 2 or something, if it ever comes. That game simply isn't for me anymore, and its a deep shame quite frankly.

I find it mind-boggling how people get that much money! I cant figure out why some of this stuff costs/sells for so much. To me, its all about "Does it do what I want?", and I probably wouldnt recognize alot of valuable items if I fell over them. Been playing a year now, 6 playble characters, 4 level 20, and a little less than 60k. Gotten VERY few golds, maybe 24 tops, probably alot less, often turns out something I think is worth something, isnt. Im NOT bored though, have played 4 characters to level 20, ranger is level 18 now, soon going to Fire Islands, will do same with mesmer. Lather, rinse, repeat with Factions and Nightfall.

The last several posts were pretty bad. I suppose I was part of it.
We should be careful or they will close this thread. I'll try to get it back on topic.
The way people get so much money is by farming and buying low/selling high, which is a legitimate way of playing the game. Many of the farmers are angry about the new ai making farming less fun and profitable.
Also many players are perturbed at the direction gameplay has been going since the release of Nighfall and have decided that the game is less fun to play and therefore-boring.

Lathering, rinsing, and repeating...its odd how in other games I find it fun to do (ala WoW, btw putting flame shield on) but in this game I absolutely hate to do it. Anyone else get that vibe, or am I the only one .
