You consider one single small message per hour "extremely annoying"?

BTW, you don't have to log out, just go and water the plants or something for 5 mins.

True, Id like a change to the control panel, so you can select whether or not to see "So-and-so has favor" messages. New build and the aforementioned once an hour "Take a break" would not be on option screen, they would always be on.

I like the message. It gives me the occasional reality check. I certainly can't complain that the message happened to bug me 9 times Saturday. 9 times in 9 hours? Wretched excess I'll tell ya.

In my view the quoted post here hit the nail on the head. This message exists to prevent lawsuits from the families of people who died from playing too long, like the one guy in China or whatnot who played WoW or something for 4 days straight and then died in real life from it.
Still an extremely annoying message, and should be removed or at least toggleable. But I suspect that would never happen because if it's a toggle then it can't act as a lawsuit shield.

What I wish they would add is some type of AFK feature so if someone were to whisper you they would now you weren't there, and also that the time you have been playing would be tracked based on when you were not AFK.

You can set your status in the Friends dialog, look at the drop down list at the top.

I play the game to get out of reality and I don't need a reality check every hour. A way to disable/enable it would be nice so we can satisfy both groups of people. Personally, I'd disable it.

Yes, because we have such a problem with people overplaying and dying from it here in the US.

Its not the US that prompted the message, there are countries where *SHUDDER* you actually have limited time on Computer games.

I can see how the HoH one can get annoying because of how frequent it appears but I would like to see other things fixed and worked on by anet before this. Actually I would be pretty pissed if they did change this when there are real problems that could be addressed 1st. Also not sure if those of you who dont like the HoH winner announcement have ever had it as your name up there ot even your guilds name, but if you ever do you will take a screeny and save it. Then there is also the 4th consectutive win one where favor has been taken away. This is by far the best if it is an actual chars name up there. I have done this only 1 time and only got the last 2 wins to take favor but I had about 100 whispers either saying thank you or saying *&#*#@&!!!!!!!!! you stupid &^%#$!@% *!&%$^%^%. Ahh yes that made all my hours in GW worthwhile no matter what else happens
So if the 1 hr reminder bugs you too bad it is a legal thing so people who get carpal tunnel cant take legal actions on anet and also those who forget to eat/drink/sleep because they are playing. Maybe set a timer at 1 hr and when it goes off dont look at your chatbox for a bit and rest the timer
Those who dont like the HoH win ticker. Try doing some HoH and get your name or your guilds up there and I think you will feel different. If you have been there and done that dont ruin it for the others who havent.

I don't think they will. Reason being is Anet wants to go in to china and with some of there hour limit laws, they need a system that could auto log out if X hours = law limits. This would only affect users under the yet to be released Chinese region.
It's also a good ingame time reminder.
It doesn't bother me at all and I do like the feature.

That isn't quite the case. In the US, things have not degenerated to the point that this is necessary. Although a good CYA move, this is not the reason that the message is there.
The message is there because GW is marketed in a variety of countries. Many of those countries do not have the same laws that countries like the US and England have regarding games. Certain countries in which GW is sold have a time limit on gameplay. One of these countries has very strict laws, and require game companies to add things to thier game that support the law there.
This "feature" was added in order to market GW in a country that was added well after the original release of GW, and is essentially a compromise with the laws of that country. (BTW, they do something similar in other online games. In WoW you know it as the "bonus" you get to XP after logging in to play after your character has been idle for a certain amount of time)
Because this is required of all games sold in this country that GW is marketing to, this message will never be removed, unless the law of that country is changed, or GW chooses to stop selling thier game in that country.

Even though these messages shouldn't really be considered an annoyance, there should at least be an option to turn off all these messages except for emergency anouncements or new build updates.

It's there for legal reasons, get over yourselves...if the thing you are most annoyed about is a one line message every hour, I'd say Guild Wars is doing pretty well, eh?

If a single line that comes up once every hour, that's not a pop-up, but a simple line in your text log bothers you that much...
Perhaps it's right, you DO need to take a break
