Hoooray another error 7 on our team heal monk.. in foundry... 5 and a half hrs in...got rolled not much we could do to stop it... Fewer and fewer districts every day.. Fewer and fewer teams being formed every day. This is fun isnt it?
At first I played here because it was a challange set before me and like many I have characters I want to do every last tiny part of guild wars with. Then it became just pure stubborness. I can beat this and I will beat this.... Now im just bored sick of lfg sick of error7's. Razzah isnt worth this much work a single gem isnt worth this much work... A single wepon isnt worth this much work... This comeing from a guy that has two farmed for sets of fissure armor and countless green wepons ask anyone that knows me I dont buy anything It eather drops for me or I dont have it...
Lets look at the time needed to earn just one set of 25 gems of each type. Compleating city 25 times in a row is the fastest way to get 25 gems.. Average play time to compleate city now seems to be around 4 to 5 hrs a run. That is 125 hrs roughly just for 25 margonite gemstones... Ad in foundrys roughly 7 hrs to compleate 175 hrs for 25 titan gems.... Ad in stygians roughly 4 hr trips 100 hrs. And glooms roughly 3 hr trips 75 hrs. So that is roughly 475 hrs of play time to aquire your 25 of each type of gem just to get one wepon. This doesnt include time to form a group and get set up or error7's and other d/c issues.
For me I think im done with this place been playing non stop since the area opened.... My teams have been plagued constantly with error 7's. Even the one part I have been lucky enough to compleate had one person error7 15 mins before the boss was dead at our feet our team didnt feel a sense of acomplishment... we felt bad for our errored out mesmer. Now several days after "going live" finding a group in my monk has gone from a few mins to several hrs sometimes now. Mostly everyone there seems to be selling off there gems and saying screw it and not comeing back.
I still think that increaseing the team size to reduce the length of time these quests take is a good option 10 or 12 players at a max. It allows the teams playing to choose there difficulty by chooseing how many players they wish to take... Allows for error 7's because we can bring 2 tanks just incase or an extra healer just incase ect ect ect. I realy wonder if anet considers this new area as much of a flop as the majority of there players do. I use the word majority based on the shrinking numbers playing there....... Yes yes I know there are those of you who love it... Yes yes you got your "e penis" stroked and are among the truely elite of this game..... for the rest of us... big deal who cares and go away, this is after all our game too.

Yes there is a decline, I go there for about an hour or so a day, to reject groups and watch the slow decline of the population, and to have a good laugh reading all the flames and what have you there, it's quite funny actually.

It was my understanding that gems could drop for you from certain monsters? I haven't really tried to beat them other than the release day just going in and seeing what they were like with heroes. So I'm not sure if thats true or not.

That's true... one time in the staging area of City the Margonites dropped two gems.
Both for the same guy.
It wasn't me.

"Lightbringer Rank? Not important.
Minor details and diffrence in build? Only slightly important.
Your teamwork and ability to understand PvE AI, and control your characters? VERY IMPORTANT. "
Apparently if you want to get into any PUGs, lightbringer rank is more important than you think. I saw multiple groups spamming yesterday that they werent taking anyone lower than rank 6, which means I have a long way to go being at rank 2. I could not get into a group when they saw my rank.

Pff why else do you think the scribe is writing about this area just 1 week after it went live...
They need to put it back into the limelight because people are fleeing from that place which gaile so stubbornly stated to never change and considered as very very very challenging AND fun. I can say one thing, and one thing only it sure is fun... so much fun even that i'dd rather bash my head into a wall or use a stapler on my arms for 5 hours straight then go through doa once more (sarcasm ftw, to bad i suck at it).
But hey who cares, they don't so why should we. I know that nf was the last episode (expansion) that i bought, and yes gaile your statement of doa never changing was the drop that filled the bucket in the decissionprocess. Not that my 29 bucks is really going to make an impact.

Monsters drop gems... extremely rarely. So rarely in fact that I'd suggest you assume you aren't going to get any from monster drops, because you probably won't.

Heh, that's one thing I never thought of. Increased team size, should make teams a lot more flexible...
District wise, GoA has dropped form around 7 full districts to about 2-3. Seems people are either giving up, can't be bothered, are struggiling to for team or they are already in there. Though I guess not many people have accoomplished the latter.
Anyway, we'll see what's happening regarding this within the next few weeks. Whether Anet will introduced team size etc.

WOOT sold my torment gem for 50k and my margonite gem for 20k sold off all the keys I bought and I for one am done with it.
If the comment from Gaile about not changeing this area stands I wont be back. I suspect I am not alone... But hey thanks A net for yet another empty elite mission area /goteam.....

It's even hard to get into a group now as a monk. The highest in demand class now seems to be eles, there's never enough of them.
With the sharp decline in districts, and most parties consisting of players who just got into the area, most pugs are wiping hard and fast.
I haven't yet been subject to rank discrimination, maybe because I'm a monk, but it looks like either DOA will become a ghosttown as TOA once did, or it's going to be a long hard slough.
So far I've seen 4 gem drops, 1 of them being mine the time we finished city, giving me a grand total of.. *gasp* 2 gems!
So what needs the most gems again? Is it the brace of truth which you can give to the pink spirits after quest completion that everyone thinks will craft the new armor?

Far from alone there, myself being one of them using the place a comedy central for a few moments of enjoyment of watching all the frustration, according to some that I've spoken to in guild and out of guild, that have heard about the place, there not even going bother going there, and there not even up to that part of the game yet.
It's pretty simple math, if the majority of teams don't have the time to clear FoW how it was presumably intended, how on earth do they expect people to do these places ?
oh, and BTW: I told you so, that the place would drop to almost empty.

Threatening with cancellation? Funny. These posts always crack me up. But hey, professional help is readily available these days to help get over great personal losses.
Scribe simply wrote about best strategies. It nicely explains, why going into those areas with Tank/Nuker/Monk takes 5-7 hours to complete.
However, changing the mindset of PUGs is a completely futile task.
Adding 10 players is what would make the holy trinity builds possible and viable. That's why they don't do it.
Unfortunately, any attempt at strategy is lost in DoA, with a few bright exceptions which make that place fun.

I support build and group variety, and the Tank/Nuker/Monk groups are simply over done right now. But to say they take 5-7 hours isn't correct.
Our pug group of Tank/Nuker/Monk & 1 necro completed the City quest in 3 hours, which is actually shorter than completing UW (5 hours) and about the same as FOW. Not only that, it was the worst pug group I'd ever been in w/ eles that couldn't stay out of aggro and a tank who had no clue how to tank/aggro/anything. But the ele damage was coming, and the necro hexes were screwing their monks and so we finished.
Also the scribe's strategies are nothing new. If anyone had been to any high area missions or uw/fow those tactics should be second nature by now.
However, I do think that rewards are not in line with amount of time and effort spent. I simply don't have 3-5+ hours free after work to commit to one single quest and reward.
But with no other new highend content for GW, I guess that's where I'm going to be spending my current time. Adding to my ever increasing /death count

Funny how GoA is down to 2 districts , from 15 or so a week ago.
Been mapping around the rest of GWs, all 3 games are down as far as districts in major towns - funny that this happened this week. I'm guessing ppl have voted with their feet. Wondering how ppl are saying there are more playing GWs these days - haven't noticed it in American districts.
Although I am liking DoA when in a good group that at the very least trys. I also understand the frustration that has come with this area. There is no place to go for ppl who do not want do this - an intermediate area that is new.
Guess I'll be waiting for Wintersday stuff for ppl to be on , I do like playing with friends - and if they stop playing..........................

Not threatening. Simply stating a fact. Prophecies was nice and made me buy factions. Factions was a big dissapointment and made me weary about buying nf. But against better judgement in i bought nf. Liked it a bit, especially the worms stuff, untill the torment area, just seemed like a drag over there, but meh thats simply me. I was however severely miffed at the way how these so called elite areas have been implimented and hoped they had learned out of the complaints that had been abundant, but meh didn't bother seeing as it was only a very tiny faction nor did it contain anything special, just prefer being able to go into areas with henchies/heroes so i can at least scout out the area before i waste time getting into groups. But with the introduction of doa which they announced as free content, I expected something more along the lines as sf funwise. Instead we got a the deep + torment + underworld on crack which was a severe dissapointment, really thought they would try to appease everybody with the free content and not just the 10% that has the time to spend 4 hours in 1 big stretch on doing a quests. This is exactly the reason why i'm not playing wow or any of the other so called grindtype games.
And kaane, I never stated i wouldn't play guildwars, just that i wouldn't spend any more money on it... I payed for 3 chapters, and i'll be sure to get my worth out of it by hogging their resources.

Well, it still is a weekday. We'll have to see how it picks up during the weekend. Though I wouldn't be surprised if it did go down. I sure as hell ain't going back in there. I think the rewards are literally not worth the aggravation, and it's not fun as a "challenge" at all.
