Really, being a warrior, it seems that I can't do this. Even when I get my ranger or Dervish to the elite mission, I still can't do it. Melee users are kept out this time, and Warriors can't tank either - I tried, with 140 armor, I got killed with 2 hits.
Ohhh wait, could it be that my build is a bit off? Yeah, that must be it, I forgot that my build has got to be perfect, just like the other million players trying to do DoA. Ohh, and we all gotta buy the same armor and runes.
Better re-name 'Guild Wars' to 'Clone Wars' - cookie cutter ftw!!1 -_-
|
actually, i was tanking for a group with a build i threw together in a few minutes. it's not that hard really.
i use:
Auspicious Parry
"Watch Yourself!"
Dolyak Signet
Signet of Stamina
Lightbringer's Gaze
Endure Pain
Healing Signet
Ressurect
my max hp with both stamina and endure up was 1,105.
not that hard to maintain, if you don't believe me, try it yourself.

The thing is this... The MISSION is an Elite Mission. The "compromise" that most people are wondering about can be gained by lowering the difficulty of the Explorable Areas just a tad (Mob Density? Special Monster Skills?) and keeping the Elite Mission, which is no doubt probably the hardest PvE challenge they've ever created if you compare it to the mere "explorable areas" the same.
It wouldn't hurt to tone the outlying areas down a notch. I'm not talking about making it a cakewalk, but give non-specialized builds and PuG's a chance.

Yup. It would be fan I I had an use for all my Skill, but in most cases, more than half of them are useless.
I used the same build anywhere in Prophecies: my patented: "PvE Eternal Fire"
I killed Glinth with it, and only changed it in the last mission for the titans, I finished Factions with it, and I only neede to change it in competitive and elite missions.
I finished Nightfall with it, and I only needed to change it to kill Shiro.
And I love when I have to redo my build and come back again, because I always thought this was the point of this game.
I tried some possible combinations... but at the end, my party gets wipe d out and they come for me... this is not a puzzle game, this is not a sudoku. It's not fun when there is only one solution.

I think what is really upseting people is that the challenge in DoA is not incrimental. It starts out hard and never changes. Most locations/quests/mission start out with a reasonable lvl of challange and progressivly get harder the farther in you go.
The do not need to nerf this area at all, just lower the lvls of the first few groups so people can at least get there foot in the door, figure out what there up against then raise the lvls to there proper place as the teams move deeper into the area.
As for some classes not working here, I find that each zone has some totaly diffent mechanics and that every class will find a zone that it can work in. No class save monks will likely work in every zone but there should not be any class that is totaly useless in every zone in the Gate of Anguish quests.

^^ because obviously, level of difficulty means absolutely nothing when an elite area opens up and people are still trying to beat it. Good logic, Coran.
I'm just hoping whatever cookie cutter gets pooped out ends up with a ranger or dervish. Otherwise, I'm screwed, since I dont think I can bear gates of madness more than twice, and am debating the twice part still.

that would be true IF there was only one build that worked. I think most of the people that complain here are too narrow-minded. Think about it, it's been one day, you can't expect for everyone to know everythning about it this soon. Give it time and multiple MULTIPLE builds will develope, and make it to where ANYONE can play and win at this. But until then, i enjoy the challenge, and the variablilty of it. Everytime you enter an area, it's never the exact same, therefore cookie cutter builds will not work every time. Like with how droks running used to be, where there was always one area that could trip you up if you didn't get the right spawns. Don't blame ANet for your loss in this area. It was designed to be difficult, and you SHOULD have trouble in it. It was MEANT to be a challenge, and if you cannot have fun trying to figure out something that works with what you use, then don't do it, and go back to farming, or whatever it is that gives you a sense of satisfaction.

Not to sound insulting but this is exactly why 99% of the GW community can't/won't complete DoA, no analization and adaptation. There has been many build that have completed areas in DoA. Just trappers have made it through you say?
The team I was in to kill Jord Jadoth:
1 Warrior tank with Defy Pain, stances, etc.
3 Monks: Monk hero as prot, a human prot, and a human healer.
Me as a Motivation Paragon with SoR, "They're on fire!", etc.
Rest of the team were Elementalist with Meteor Shower, Searing Flames, etc.
Our strategy: prot the warrior, he takes full aggro, Eles nuke the s**t out of everything with everyone using the occasional Lightbringers Gaze, worked out great.
All I'm saying is, learn to adapt, look at all the skills available to you and find a build that works.

Amazing the number of complaints rolling in and DoA has been out a total of what, 24 hours?
I remember SF and UW and FoW and Tombs, and of course the two elite factions missions. It took at least 24 hours until people were consistantly completing these areas, balanced or "gimmick" build. I remember sitting in ToA while people complained how overpowered the aataxes were.
DoA is hard, so what? It's a challenge now, so enjoy it! In two weeks it probably won't be.

Sorry icedragon981 but there should NOT be an area of the game that 99% of the people can't do. For one thing its just not good business sense. If virtually no one can do this area they may not even bother to complete NF and tell thier friends not to even both to buy it. Why bother when the other 2 chapters are more FUN. This IS a game after all and games SHOULD be fun.
I spent 3 hours in DOA last night and 3 hours in SF tonight,
Time to form group in DOA 2 hours 50 mins odd play time about 6 mins
Time to form group in War camp for SF 20 mins at max Play time about 2h 30
Drops for the whole group
DOA 1 non max white item
SF 6 green 6 gold 20 odd purple not inclueing chests drops which for me was 5 gold and a purple from 6 chests.
Fun
DOA none at all
SF Loads
I don't know about you but I know what I will be doing tomorrow.

I have to say that the number of districts for "Gate of Anguish" is less than half of what it was yesterday.
Guess the area is weeding out the good from the.............
And this thread has over a 1000 posts in a day and a half. At least the area is getting a lot of attention.
Oh, the new hero should be moved somewhere else or the requirement to get him nerfed dramatically - he is not "Elite" as his primary prof is fixed, Just my 2 cents on that.
Now to get my Necro and Ele through game. And rangers have good skills for this - just not the usual stuff .

When our guild/alliance team finished the City of Torc, we had two heroes too. The bonder was my hero, and the other healer was teammate's hero.
So yes, the only human healer in the group was me.
I was controlling my monk as well as the monk bonder hero simultaniously
And yes, it was rather tough, but unfortunately, I find heroes to be more useful than some PUG players.

But where's the challenge? We've all beaten SF/UW/FoW/The Deep/Urgoz's Waren enough to farm it easily so why not play the area that actually requires thinking and planning and is actually challenging. I myself feel that the fact that I was able to beat a quest that most people die 10 seconds into is a better reward than some crappy golds or greens.
Edit: Also, I got a margonite gemstone as a drop from a margonite in the city and sold that extra gemstone to some lazy player for 50k. So I gain the satisfation of completing one of the game's most elite areas and making some extra cash off another player's lazyness. gg

[skill=text]Practiced Stance[/skill]/[skill=text]Choking Gas[/skill]!
Take 2 of these Rangers, and the AI Casters, who often clump up, can't do anything. Period. Who cares about 400 Invoke Lightning if they can't do anything about them?
Then just take a Curses Necro or Mesmer to sedate the Melee and Rangers.
Of course, it doesn't work in the Touch Necro area, but you get the point.
Hehe. Now I just have to find someone willing to confirm...sigh. Everyone is running that stupid Mantra of Frost build. I really need to get my Ranger through NF.

I am one of the people who says PvE is too easy. I would now have to amend that to say PvE, except for the DoA, is too easy.

I started to say something about this back in other post but decided to leave it alone. But I am going to burst some bubbles, knock people off that tall horse with elite’s syndrome.
Now for people who have been playing the game since day one, and have all three campaigns have a benefit from skills, experience ect... But casual players and new players are not at this same level. They are some what screwed (better them then us right?). What gets me is all these people who think they are elite, better then others because they blow threw the game then whine about how easy it was and want more of a challenge. And don’t want anything to change in DoA because it was what they where waiting for.
But really those who PvE is to easy what was your group size? I bet it was the max party number wasn’t it, it had to be other wise you wouldn’t be here whining about how easy it was in the first place. Come on you want a challenge right, you want it to be harder for you? But chickened out and refuse to make things a challenge what a shame.
Its funny people had to wait for something to be hard in order to find something challenging, while other’s who are better found a way to be challenged with out waiting for it.

I was able to stay alive using something like that Obsi Flesh build pretty much indefinately someone posted a few pages ago. Went E/R for Serpent's Quickness and slipped in a Ward/Stability. I'm not very good at these types of builds where you have to keep track of your enchantments and the timings of your casts though, and didn't know where to stand to block. Baddies got around me and nailed my party to the wall.
Definately a challenge. I like it.
To all the naysayers,...hey guys, this too shall pass. There's are plenty of other things to do until the best answers for dealing with these areas are found and posted.
Leave it.

This new area is way too overpowered. It's no fun anymore for the simple "non-elite" player.

That's why it's called an Elite mission. Take note of the word "Elite", non-elite players is not what this is designed for.
