Look at the spam in the chat for cheap stuff, then start spamming to sell the same item for more than its worth. ie Powertrading.
or
Speculate in Futures.

Enjoyment of the game has gotten in my way a number of times when I could have made millions. I guess that's not a bad thing.
I knew when factions first came out that I could make a ton of many farming amber, but I wanted to actually play the game. The same with NF, I probably could have made a million just farming darksongs, but that's not what I wanted to do in the first week of play.

Conan O'Brien *in the year 2000* just popping on my mind
Yeah couple big guilds are using that kind of method. Montrous items when Factions came and that sort of things. Reminds like a guild wars mafia :]

the rumors spread, more than anything, ebcause people ask the rich traders "so, what should i invest in for the next chapter?"
the traders, may answer truthfully as to their actual opinion, but chances are, they already have hundreds or thousands of the particular material...not because they're unscrupulous bastards (well...partially) but more because they already have the money required to get stack upon stack.
this is why monstrous eyes went up before factions.
i know, i alone, was probably asked several hundred times, mostly by different people.
and every time, i answered truthfully. for one, because i have no objection helping other people get rich, and seccondly, because the pre-release price hike due to hype charges prices up, allowing you to sell some of your stock off, and make the money back you spent buying them all, and reserving the rest for speculation(so you dont lose any money).
it should also be mentioned, that before ch2, i did NOT advise people to invest eevrything in rubies/saphs. i told most people, almost word for word; "invest what you feel safe with, eventually they will have a use, in ch2, or later, but if you cant afford the immidiate loss dont count on them making youa profit."
i only got 3 stacks of rubies/saphs in preperation for ch2 (most LONG b4 they got hyped; for far, far cheaper). and most were sold b4 ch2 even came out.

I could have sworn it happened twice, the first one did not have a roll back.
I remember good old griff farming, ettin runs, troll runs, minatour runs...and that chest that gives you 10k everytime you open it.

OMFG LOL. Do people actually read other people's posts? It is incredible that questions are being asked which have been answered in the thread.
There have been TWO Trader Price resets. One where everyone kept the stuff they purchased. The other one was rolled back and everyone lost everything they purchased.

I farmed White Mantle in the very early days of monk smite farming. I actually used an e/mo though. Because of my early farming, I have never dropped below 200k, even when outfitting 8 PvE characters with new 15k armors and paying 250k for the newest weapon skins. (I don't do that anymore though. I discovered a collectors skin that I like much better, which also allows me to keep my money.)
Oh, and I am one of those people that sell stuff for ridiculously cheap in the Sell forum. I can't stand playing merchant. More power to the power traders, but in general, if you see one of my sell threads, 9/10 there's gonna be something worth reselling for at least 2x the b/o I have set.

Ok, the deal with the server rollback was this.
A network card went bad in one of the machines. It was reporting acknowledgements from the DB server (specifically, acknowledging decrementing inventory of materials as they were sold) that were actually not there. As a result, no matter how many materials were sold, the "worldwide" inventory never went down, in fact it kept going up as people sold materials to the traders. Since the price of materials is based on availability (supply and demand, anybody?) the trader price kept going down until it reached the minimum price.
Lots of people bought lots of rare materials/runes for almost nothing. Bags full of superior vigors. 250 stacks of ecto.
Once Anet figured out what was going on, they determined that the damage to the game economy was severe enough to warrant a server rollback. So they shut down the servers and rolled back three to four hours.

power traders that have been around for a while usually have a clientele list. so for the most part, they dont spam anywhere, they simply pm people that they sell to with their wares.
unfortunately for me, ive noticed that most of the "high rollers" that i sell to seem to be leaving gw for w/e reasons.
if youre starting out, id recommend spamming anywhere there are more then like 4-5 districts until u solidify some relationships with buyers and what not.

No. They rolled the servers back that time. One prior time, they didn't roll the servers back, but the scale was much smaller. Only a "few" got wealthy from that price reset.

Power trading now is rubbish. All the uber rare items e.g. 15% ffs, unconiditional, hod etc have been snapped up or nerfed so it kinda sucks. Long gone are the days of picking up 250 ecto + items for under a million. Prices have fell tons aswell =( Before even really imperfect items were worth something so you standed a better chance of finding bargains but now alot of imperfect items arnt worth nothing.
