It's an even item. Sorry but if you're not there I don't think you should get something that symbolizes an event you weren't even a part of. That's how I feel about it.
I missed Halloween last year... why shouldn't I be able to get that helm which was different from the pumpkin helm this year. All in all.. I think you should have to be there.
I agree. What happened to "Must Be Present To Win"
Assuming you dont have to do much activites like Halloween event, can't you simply leave your character connected and come back to it anyway? I probably will be absent for most of the day of New Years, but then living in England has it's advantages being that you guys are a lil bit behind time wise.
Gaile or Alex if your passing through here, can we get confirmation on which timezone your counting as main (is it PST) so us over the other side of the pond can figure out when we need to be there?
I'm really looking forward to this event and let me give you all a pre-emptive Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Wintersday Happy everything greeting!
I don't know what's going to happen and how to get the hats, but there is something I have noticed from the very famous Halloween event.
Because there were like 100+ districts, there was quite a big delay between all those districts. So what exactly I mean, well when district 1 had the mad king, district 100 was still waiting, in this case it means that when the madking disappears in district 1, district 100 still had some games going on.
Here a trick I did with succes. I placed all my characters I wanted to have a pumpkin, in a small outpost were you won't find anyone durning the event. (this because of really fast loading) Then when the event started I went to District 1 to join the event. When the madking gave away the pumpkin (I was monitoring my inventory) I instandly left Lions by logging out (don't exit the game) logged in on my warrior in somewere and clicked lions and took a district which was a way higher then 1, went there, the king just started to give away the pumpkins and got one. This way I got 2 pumpkins durning 1 cycle, and it really worked.
So I hope the Christmas event will be popular as well this will make it work again to get 2 items durning one cycle. But darn, there was really a big delay on Halloween because of load of districts and load of people spam clicking the king, btw on the Dragon festival there was also a small delay and made it able to get more presents in a cycle, althought I didn't tried it out with the dragon mask.
Thats how i got my pumpkin helm and witch hat for my two characters. Jumping districts from 1 to higher up to get both. Hopefully, the districts won't be fill up as fast as last Wintersday event.
I agree with the idea that you must be present to get a hat or an item BUT I also agree that they should extend it past a day or do SOMETHING to make it easier to get the hats for ALL of your characters. Personally I have 14 slots (13 characters) -- that means I have purchased all 3 campaigns AND purchased additional slots through their store. Since I've spent all this money and all this time on getting these char's up to lvl 20 I don't want to have to "pick" my favorites and only get hats for them. There SHOULD be a way to get multiple hats at one time or be present ONCE for hats for ALL of your chars or something like that. That would cut down on a LOT of traffic if your "account" all got hats from being present ONCE. People wouldn't have to district hop or worry about being there but once. In my mind that is an ideal solution (as close to perfect as I can think it).
Perhaps they should just make the holiday hats Bonus items, that way, once the player gets one, they become available to all characters on ur account. Still customized though, and not tradeable. Also, they should have something if your account was not active at all during Wintersday Finale, u should have a way to get a hat. Note: This only should include players that were active for some of the event, just not the finale. Making it available to all peeps that bought the game afterwards would be stupid.
It stinks cause I've missed all of the finales except Halloween 06, and im going to be missing this one as well!
Pffft. Responsible people have designated drivers when they go out drinking so why can't you have a designated logger on-ner if you're going to be too hammered to log onto GW to get a hat?
because if you're going to get hammered you don't deserve anything?
I didn't find out about the collector for the dragon festival items until recently. It really annoyed me that I thought I'd missed it for so long, and now I find I could have gotten it easily!
when exactally is wintersday supposed to start? does it start on the 25th like that other holiday (to not offend anyone, i left out the name) or does it start later? because i really want a hat and cc's and im gonna be on vacation for the first part of winter break.
Not trying to stray from the topic, but if the mere mention of Christmas offends people, that's pretty sad. Does anyone get upset if we mention Passover or Ramadan? Anyway, back to the point, as has been explained, Wintersday coincides with the western calendar's New Year, not Christmas.

You mean a separation between players who have and have no lives, right?

This does practically the same thing as making them bonus items, only difference is it will cost 10g each time you want to get it. Well worth it in my opinion.

I really wish there will be an optional way of getting our festival hats. You see, I am moving right on the 31st. There is no guaranteed that my power/phone/dsl will even be hooked up by the 1st... So that means there's a chance that I will not be able to log on and join the festival on the last day...
yeah.. i really hope there'll be collectors for at least a few more days for the folks who cant make it on that final day. i've missed out on the Holloween hats and dont wanna miss this one. but unfortunately some of the undersea cables in Taiwan are knocked out by the quake today, my ISP is having major international connection outage. T_T
Honestly, you don't even have to be on even 3 hours to obtain all 4 helms. The International Districts are staggered from your normal districts (By 1 hour? At least I think that's how it was last year), and Kamadan is 15 minutes later than Lion's Arch.
There shouldn't be an issue with being logged on for the small amount of time it would take to hit one cycle of Wintersday helms, unless you're planning to be out of town. Even then you could slap your GW folder onto a portable hard drive and use a computer somewhere.
I plan to be out of town. Very out of town, and hopefully having a great time. That's what holidays should be made of, not 3-hours-recurring one-day-only be-there-or-be-dead online gaming events :P
I think with the new festival hat guy we won't have to get the hats with all of our toons just one of each hat per account. I haven't seen confirmation of this yet *please answer Gaile* but this seems to be the only use for this feature as he doesn't allow you to gain hats from previous missed events but he only allows you to spread all of your hats accross all of your toons. I believe *pure speculation* that he is here to stay and this is the storage upgrade for headgear Anet alluded too.
Gaile already confirmed this. He's here to stay and you can spread out hats throughout your account as and when you need them, therefore saving space in storage.
I can't believe I actually *dreamed* that Anet introduced Armor and Dye storage. (no joke)
