It would be nice if we could receive hats during the course of the event, since many people won't be able to make it. I had to work last New Year's, so I missed out totally. This year I should be able to log on to grab a few hats, but for all of those missing out, something should be done.
I may or may not be able to get on. I'm leaving to live with my cousin for while to help her daughter settle into her new home and I dunno if my cousin has internet access or what. I'll be participating in the other Wintersday activities and really want the hat. The Halloween hat covers my characters face and I rather like being able to see it. Why don't they just give the hats out on Christmas and on New Year's day? Alot of people will be spending time with family but you gotta go home eventually. *lol* I want to know if there'll be a special hat for Elona. Maybe a wreath with big red bows or mistletoe. *sigh* I'm looking forward to the huge dance parties at Lion's Arch and the drunken games of chance.
Is there any specific reason *not* to have a collector for the hats?
1: WTS Winter Orbs, WTS Winter Orbs, WTS Winter Orbs etc etc
2: "Zomg this sucks! Farming some low level stuff to get a hat"
3: "Zomg this sucks, there aren't enough rewards to get the orbs required, now I have to farm them!"
4: "Zomg this sucks, I haven't got enough time to farm the orbs"
(You can replace Winter Orbs by any collector trophy that would be it)
I'd really like to know if you have to get the hat to get the storage. I'm tired of carrying my pumpkin head around with me or have it clog up my normal storage. But its a fun item to have, especially at the guild hall.
that is unacceptable there's no reason you can't do wintersday finale like the dragon festival finale.
ugh, anet disappoints again...
Who is saying that? < Never mind, I read it in a wrong way. But the Wintersday worked this way last year too right? So what's the problem? (Correct me if I'm wrong, because I started playing in early february)
And Anet (in my opinion and point of view) makes me appeal more than disappoint me.

Yes it worked exactly the same way last year.
Anet really started the whiners off by putting that collector in at the dragon festival.

Talk about being ungrateful.
How can you people be complaing and moaning at anet about a totally free event which they do not have to provide. Yes so you might have to miss out on a freaking hat its not the end of the world. Stop crying and enjoy the rest of the festival which anet have decided to provide just for the hell of it.
Not one person here has the right to have any complaints about any of the events anet provides for us.

This is an event, it is for fun. If the hat is so important then you guys will find a way to get one.
Personally I'm glad the hats are free and there is no BS farming to get some kind of stupid orb to gain them like the Dragonmask. All you have to do is show up and you get a hat so enjoy the holidays and if you have time on the 1st get a hat. If not then life will go on. This is just for fun it is not like the hats have any real value. There will be another Wintersday.
I am going to come out and say that the idea of how the Hat distribution (Santa hat and Antlers) system last winsterday was really terrible and hugely chaotic.
The voting of Dawyna and Grenth Districts really made District hopping to get Hat for other Toons a misery (We have 9 toons now for those that get all 3 Chapters) and from what i read from the event descriptions, its likely this time round instead of a click voting, players might be able to use their Candy Cane Shards to determine the district of the patron gods and hence the Hat which will make things worse for those who are trying to get both Hats for all their characters.
Can any Tawianese forumer confirm the above since their event description are usually more precise with more details? We learn that often surprises can end up as a slap on the face when you only find out about it when it happens.
If tyria is going to similarly have 2 Hats (Dawyna and Grenth) and Kamadan another by it self or similarly 2 different Hats. Then the 9 visit comparison to Mad King is invalid since now we have twice/triple the amount of Hat for the similar amount of visits to get them, made worse by having the possibility of not knowing in time which Patron god will win that particular district.
I have been going on and on for a year about events now. Whats the point of spending so much time and effort on an event that only homebound kids can enjoy fully when the working adult population of GW with committments loses out because they got to work, visit relatives etc. I dont recall the last economic forecast stating that kids make more money/have more spending power than tax contributing working adults, did i?
Finally: How many Anet Staff are going to be sitting in front of their PCs all New Year's day for 24 hours to attend all 9 sessions of Hat garthering?

WoW's Devs have a life, not WoW accounts.
How about Anet's Devs?
How about simply moving the end of event from Jan 1st to Jan 2nd?
I'm not sure if I'll be able to attend. I'll be out of town for a NYE party. I might be back in time to get a hat, but I'm not sure. AFK'ing isn't really an option since I'd have to stay connected for nearly 2 straight days w/o an err7 or being kicked for being inactive.
How about simply moving the end of event from Jan 1st to Jan 2nd?
I think that might be even technically worse off than on the 1st since the 2nd isnt technically a holiday and work presumes/school for some in other parts of the world.
My grips isnt with the date but rather the inconsideration masked behind the notion of rarity because you cant get them unless you forsake everything else including sleep. What sort of a game company does this. Makes me wonder why negativity have but sprung up everywhere despite Nightfall being a more well polished product (I dont speak for RoT and DoA).

It's not their problem some people are so obsessed they want a hat for every character.
That's not the issue. I was unable to attend last year and will probably not be able to do it this year, either. I don't want one for every character, I'd simply like 1 hat. 1 over 2 years. Not that much to ask, IMO. There was tons of whining about this last year. They really should reconsider the timing.
Since when is the word Christmas offending? I don't believe in all of it, but I don't mind, and it's my opinion. And I don't think christians or people who believe in Jesus Christ etc. are going to be offended by saying "Christmas". I don't get it.
Anyways, back on topic, I'll get a hat for my mesmer, and that's all I need, I don't need 8 hats.
Because...
Wintersday is not Xmas, its the Tyrian New Year Holiday. Thus making it a holiday everyone ingame can enjoy... once again its not xmas.
Sucks to be someone who plays from an internet cafe, (which will be closed on, yes you guessed it, 01/01/2007 - ie, a small minority which just happens to include myself But I'm not at all bitter that I'll never get any of the winter hats, not at all. After all, as a minority speaker, I don't count. At all.
(Actually, I'll probably be round a friend's house on new years day, so I'll either hijack their PC or lug my own 2 tonne beast over there, but even so, it raises the question: Why deny hats to anyone who won't have internet access on the 1st of January? Is it criminal that some people don't have any way of getting internet access at home? And by that, I mean, are the people without access the ones to blame?)
Oh and Lykan, everyone here has a right to state their opinions and if they want to complain, even if no one agrees with them, they have the right to do that as well. As long as they have a rationale behind the complaint, then all the more reason to voice their opinion. And yes, the above is a complaint, but as you can see, I have a very good reason for it- there are surely people less fortunate than myself who are going to be in a similar situation. Somebody has to consider them, you know?

Yes, but he doesn't want to mention the word "Christmas" because he doesn't want to offend anyone. I don't see how you can offend somebody by saying some event starts on Christmasday. That was my question I'm not saying that I think Wintersday should be associated with Christmas (after all, it's game), I'm just wondering what's offensive about Christmas. Lawl, think it's funny though.
Btw, what about the people who couldn't attend the Halloween event, the double fame weekend, the triple green weekend etc etc? They can't statisfy everyone. I mean, come on, do you want appearances of Grenth and Dwayna for every player alone? Give me a break, it's just a item in a game.
