It's profitable for people who do not like to waste time trying to sell items in towns. Bots profit from this area as it has a high profit when selling everything to the Merchant. They need the least human interaction possible, as in people finding strange someone selling 99 weapon upgrades at a time or something like that.
I'm not a botter, but I like farming for items I can sell to the Merchant without the hassle of trying to sell to human players. Therefore I hate farming green items which are worth 50g to Merchants, and weapon upgrades which are worth an incredible 25g to Merchants. I am of those who believe that there should be a Unique Weapons Trader, Weapon Upgrades Trader and even a Festival Items Trader.

Yea, that online part is also annoying, since it causes lag. Remove that as well.

Problem is Anet tends to kill the ability of human players to farm an area when they look into it.
Yes, bots should be killed but MOST of the time they are sweatshop workers and not computer code. I used to 55 altrumm ruins (best place to fill up your fur in mat storage not to mention saphs drop there for some reason) and followed a straight path to exit ... IE I looked like a bot. Knowing there were misinformed people always looking for a bot to report I took to emoting before exiting (thinking there arent too many ranked bots or sweatshop workers You people act as if you have never clicked on the xulani in LA from across map and hugged your way over.
Anet's Jihad against the "Chinese farmer" is warped understandable to a degree but warped (they are pissed someone is making money of their product). What I don't understand is why so many of you have a problem with (insert ethnic name) getting his/her bowl of rice to eat. If you are so upset then solve world poverty and hunger the things that drive sweatshops. Anet nerfing an area doesn't get rid of the sweatshop people they just move to another farm. When Anet nerfs WE are the ones that pay.

i like you. you make alot of sense. personally i farm mattu keep in factions. its not exactly easy buti get around 5 k each run out of it. Anet really cant keep nerfing everything thats making a player too much money. they need to stop the bots. how there gonna do it i dont know. but somehow they have to.

Go to Yohlon internation district, 99% of the people there are Mo/W.
Yes you guys are right, not a lot of good drops out there, our guild farm promo points there.
The drops are not that good but the points are pretty decent.

And before they nerfed protective bond 99% of the people in toa were also mo/w. A class doesn't mean they are computer code GG. GASP they dont reply!!! If they typed in Chinese would you reply? Could you reply? When you have a quota to meet .. chat is not an option. Does your boss at work let you chat? Sweatshop workers are WORKING not there to chat. Again ... Anet has shown REPEATEDLY they do NOT get rid of the sweatshop worker aka "bot" they just nerf the average person trying to farm. They have been trying since the prot bond nerf (like 15 months ago) and guess what ... they are still here. Only difference is the average player has a much harder time farming.

What I find ironic is ... Anet is trying to rid the game of the sweatshop worker/"bot" and in doing so creates a demand for ebay gold by making farming harder for the average or new player. Does anyone at Anet even think?

Everyone here complains about bots except me.
Bots ... bots are an answer to a silly game mechanisms. If you make farming very difficult, and at the same time increase the money needed to buy ingame stuff (Vabbi armor, DoA items), then the result will only be more people turning to eBay.
In fact, if i was MMO developer, i'd have bots and sell money too, to increase the income. It makes perfect sense. Make it so that money is very hard to get, put expensive prices there, put no monthly fee, and at the same time start selling money on eBay. Woohoo.
Conclusion: stop complaining about bots. Think about WHY BOTS EXIST. There is no need to work 1 month in a *game* to afford a fictional item in an effort to have *fun*. Yes, people like aquiring things, but too much is too much. The "money sinks" dont work the way everyone here including ANet things they work. If you make expensive item/armor, and people like it, they WILL want to have it ,and will farm for it. People will want to be prepared for new chapter(s) and will farm money in advance, which creates more money ingame among player coffers and then ANet does calculations and sees "woah our players have lots of money" and releases new chapter with semi-FoW (=Vabbi) armor and other things, thinking how in fact they are solving money surplus issues (as silly as it sounds), while they are actually pushing people to buy eBay gold. At the same time making a policy against buying eBay gold. Oh the hipocrisy.

You know, I asked a question on these forums when Factions first came out.
Basically (and I don't care to go searching for it), I asked, Do you think that having to pay for all our skills (instead of gaining some in skill quests) and the amount of rare materials needed for just basic armor will cause more people to go to E-bay.
I was shot down.
Funny how things have a way of coming back up.

The average or new player can make a good amount of gold just by questing.
My experience from my Paragon is if you quest from the beginning of nightfall and do a lot of quests, and get to consulate docks, youll have roughly 9k from just white item drops being sold to the merchant, which is certainly enough to craft a basic max AL armor set. My paragon only has 1 insignia, and its from a drop.
Do the quests in Kourna and you'll make enough money to craft max level weapons with mods.
------------------
What really needs to be changed is player perception into what they NEED to succeed in the game. The demand for gold, IMO, stems all from this mis-perception.
Guild Wars is NOT WoW. Our time cannot be translated into money, since we aren't paying to play.
With a GW player, his/her time is essentially leisure time. There is no pressure to get in as much hours as possible, since you are not paying per month.
There is also no NEED for prestige weapons/armor.
-------------------
What is hard to do is to farm massive amounts of gold in Elona.
Greens arent very high priced, weapons are cheap and the only very few items that have high prices are not easy to get for the average player.
-------------------
The whole goldfarmer/botfarmer issue is a tricky one.
I think with Guild Wars, and only Guild Wars, the botfarmer is not born out of demand.
It was born out of opportunity, and misconception.
The Mo/W 55 Tank (the original prot bond "I can AFK and tank and come back still alive" build) is a very easy build to macro/bot.
The need didn't exist for gold farmers, so the ebay gold seller, offering gold for money, is essentially taking advantage of BOTH the honest farmer(real people) and the average player.
----------------------
Maybe Anet should make Prestige items require Non-tradeable items
Ectos are customized for players

before the whole prot bond nerf, I was getting a rit through elonia reach (dont ask me why...), and I was in int dist, and noticed all the mo/ws, all following the same path, and all exactly identical.
My real question is, "Why dosent anet just watch one of these over farmed areas, and if someone takes the EXACT same path 2 or 3 times in a row, send them a message about it, and if they dont respond, give them a temp ban". I would think that just a 1 or 2 day ban would be enough to make gold farming much harder, and then if anet noticed the same thing on that account again, perma ban it. I mean, yeah, you might knock out a couple real players in the 1 day ban or whatnot, but sending them a message when they try to log in saying "we noticed bot-like activity on your account, ect ect ect..." would probably prevent most players from being perma-banned. Just a thought...

Mo/W will always be there... untill Protective Spirit is nerfed!!!
Suggestion: make a spirit-bond type of nerf to it. Not nerfed in the LEAST to those who use it right, but useless to the farmers

Well.. I usually spend my time just lurking through posts and what-not on here, except this post, and others with similiar views make me cringe quite badly - largely because I play the international districts almost exclusively, and I also have a monk who I farm with.
On quite a few occasions, I've noticed people porting into the Int Districts and automatically assuming every single monk is a bot, regardless of if they have a title, are in non-generic gear, are guilded, don't wall hug - or anything. Hell, if truth be told, I've been called a bot in game before, simply because I rejected a particular party invite, and obviously pissed a twelve year old off because I wouldn't be bothered trying to help him do whatever. Also been called a bot while having a conversation with someone who had nothing better to do other than stand around near storage and bash any monk that came near him. Now mind you, we're having a conversation... And he still believed I'm a bot.. As if I were spamming 'are yuo ok??' twice after each zone.
Some of you folks need to seriously step back and think before you assume every monk you come in contact with in a highly farmed area is a bot. I farm in Yohlon Haven Int District and yes, I see quite a few who I would agree that they are (running towards zone sign, wating, zoning), but I also see many that aren't. I zone in, run to the merchant, sell, run to storage, deposit, and go again - and I usually follow the same path. So I'd guess to a majority of people, I'd look exactly like a bot as well.
I hope ANets way of detecting bots is better than most people's judgements, however, I've read quite a few posts of people who were banned for behaving like bots, and this bothers me (whether or not the post had any merit, I don't know).. Bothers me enough to make sure I throw my own timing off and add a bit of randomness behind my behaviour which is kind of a ridiculous thing to have to do.
Someone earlier mentioned just getting rid of the ';' action, that's the best suggestion in this thread, not a protective spirit nerf, unless you actually believe people won't figure another farming build out..

LOL its not the termites they are farming. Its the tusked howlers. They do not run from SoJ as they are ranged. Only melee run when they get low. They drop a lot of runes and 80g piles.
You might kill 1-2 termites but once you aggro more than 1 monk you won't be killing anymore.
Yes, Anet is making the value of ebay gold go up. This time last year 1 mil was $30. Now its $60+. These botters have a mass quantity of gold that was farmed during the beginning of the game when you could make a mil in a 2 days.
Anet just accept that you will not win this battle. Its an industry that makes more money than you do. While you are fighting the bots you are hurting your players.
Personally I could care less about the bots. Some guy in where ever has a better job than some factory and is able to provide for his family or w/e. I don't suggest buying gold but some people only have a few hours a week to play GW and don't want to spend that farming so they can afford something.

do you not think that in PvP this nerf could be quite dramatic, as one of the key things about Prot spirit is you can use it to stop heavy pressure on one target and it last for a long time, if it was nerfed it would just change PvP massively, that wouldnt make the LEAST bit of change for anyone, i think now
