And if they would have made them temporary and you didn't farm them in time, you would have whined then too I suppose.

The future is uncertain young man.

Thanks Anet. I was happy when you put them in, even though not all of my characters could get them. Now I'm happier that they'll have a chance.

And if it causes deflation, that's just more stuff I can buy with my cash.

So all you kiddies quit being so selfish and looking gift horses in the mouth.

I LOVE the new treasure chests.........I have abysmal luck during the "double chests" and similar weekends so to know that each character has a guaranteed shot at something potentially really good at certain points in the map rates a HUGE Thank You from me!

Mmmm, the chests are a perk no matter, what, even if it is just for the extra K. My gold drops were awful the first few chars in . . . 8 worthless boar scpeters or something like that. In any event, I'm glad they are there still, gives me something else to do!

Aaah, this is very good news! I haven't played through Nightfall yet, and I was worried that most of my characters would miss out on the chests because I'm too busy to play a lot during the holidays. Now I don't have to worry about it and can get them later. Thank you, Anet!

I'm interested in seeing if there's an inflationary effect caused by these chests. I mean, we're talking about just under 100K in raw gold drops just lying around if you (like moi) have nine or more characters. More if you get anything saleable! That much gold pumped into the economy could actually make noticeable short-term changes.

On the quality of the drops: I've opened two items I'm now actively using on a toon (albeit one of them was heavily re-modded), plus a further three or four I've given to heroes. Add a handful of saleable mods and I'm quite happy with the dross-to-good-stuff ratio - it's certainly higher than it would be if I were, say, opening Kournan Chests.

Deflation is looking unlikely. Sure, they're often rare skins, but I haven't seen any that are high enough in demand to make up for the amount of gold that comes with them.

...Still, it was a clever move on ANet's part to provide both gold and items to be bought at the same time. The two have a nullifying effect on each other.

A more interesting note is Gaile's suprise to Paragons being kicked in DoA.

Maybe she knows something we don't......

(Like maybe the devs are working on razah being reasonable to aquire)

At least you can be happy they'll be there if you decide to bring another character through.

I kind of see it hard to believe they won't do anything to reduce the chest drops. Because I find it hard to believe Anet having a way to make 100k..that sorta easily..just playing through game. Here I was sitting thinking they didn't want any money to be made at all.

With all the money sinks and the lack of quest/drop money.

the gold items were largely worthless beyond giving me easy access to the Seeker of Wisdom title
http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Wisdom

opening all 12 chests will net you 25k *in cash* alone
(per character)

I dont think they will Nerf them. You can only use them once each per character so there is no point in Nerfing them.

I have to say, I really like this change. Me and a friend of mine went treasure hunting for these yesterday and had a blast. Only ones we didn't go get were in the Desolation cause I'm not that far in Nightfall yet. I could be, but I keep mapping things out and doing all the quests before I move on (cause that's just how I play the game).

Anywho, just wanted to say I really enjoyed going through and searching these out. It was fun to see what we got too. Only thing you should have done was move the treasure in Ahdashim farther back into the vault. Would have made it more challenging to get to and a lot funner. We walked into the vault to look around anyway, so I'll just pretend it was in there instead Anyway, thanks for keeping these around so we can go get the ones in the Desolation just in case I don't get there in time for Wintersday to be over.

This is great news. Gaile had said in an earlier chat that the chests were for Wintersday only. I was a little bummed because there was no way I could get all my characters to each treasure before the end of Wintersday and enjoy all the festivities. Now I won't feel rushed. And I don't care if most of the drops aren't so great. They make good Hero weapons if you can't use them yourself or sell them.

Just because it is gold does not mean it is gonna be a "keeper", I have opened
all chests for 2 toons now and only keep two of the items, the rest were
merch material and those items came from the upper map areas. Got my best
drop yet from a margonite chest, (nice pretty blue and orange sword).......

thx for that one.......

I love these new chests! It's something different and it's actually rewarding too! lol

Thanks for making them permanent ANet -- I can go back to enjoying Wintersday instead of contemplating rushing all my chars through Nightfall.

I am a little worried it will get abused since all but 3 of the chests are runable... Even one of the chests in Desolation if you know how. Technically speaking I have proven its possible to run the back way through into Vabbi. so the only thing people need to do is get a character through istan primaries which is not too hard really... and have a guildy run the gauntlet for them. and whamo 20k and 9 gold items... I tested this today and it takes all of 3/4 hour to run the gauntlet from Yohlon Haven hitting the 2 Koruna Chests, then up through desolation and getting the one in the temple, then up though grotto into vabbi, hitting 3 of those chests, and down into Moddok Crevice for the last Kourna "Do not touch" and then the 2 on Istan itself which are easy to get too anyway. Rinse repeat on a new character build. See the problem?

Now I personally don't like the concept but I was curious how long from creation to end it would take. Like I said the Gauntlet run itself takes a little over 3/4 hour, but the Istan quest take a little longer cause of the sunspear points req. But in 2-3 hrs time it is possible to be done with the cycle. Now that's nothing really for these chinese farmers. But in reality the chests are spread out enough to make it not worth their time to keep doing that, unless they can sell the golds for high prices. Otherwise its not too bad a problem I guess. Just worried someone better then I will find a faster way of doing it. Which I'm sure there is. After all I just cobbled together a little pattern to tryout, and it turned out to work. But only 20k and 9 golds in 3hrs time is not that great for a chinese farmer that is used to getting 50k an hour in other places that have been nerfed, thankfully. So IDK. I guess we will have to wait and see now won't we?

[edit] correction I only get about 15k from the chests themselves the remaining 5k was from salvage stuff I picked up along the way, I just realized that when I looked a second time. the other character only had 14.8k on him... But he did have 9 gold items, and 1 of these yielded a ruby on salvage with the measure for measure mod. and another is the rare diamond aegis shield which someone offer 80k for in Vabbi but I just stuck it on Koss on another character. I don't play trade games but others do. So its not really that big I deal I guess after all. Unless you get a really good skin. How often is that going to happen???? IDK. I'm not planning on finding out but I'm sure someone will.
