Completely untrue.
All of my local retailers -- including Wal-Mart, CompUSA, Circuit City, BestBuy -- continue to carry all three chapters at FULL RETAIL PRICE. The displays are quite prominent.
You don't honestly think Wal-mart is still carrying Prophecies and Nightfall at full price if it weren't selling?
GW is doing just fine. Just because it is a fantasy game doesn't mean you need to make up fantasies about it.

Why? We'll have people spread around 58 missions (57 if you don't count Augury Rock as a mission). Do you really think that there will be enough people for an all-human group in each area?
|
Isn't this the same argument that people are making about why heroes haven't hurt the multiplayer aspect of the game, but are claiming that there are PLENTY of PuGs still available?
Honestly, as I said previously in this thread, this may be an indirect attempt to get more people to play PvE multiplayer. Whether that be with a guild group or an accomplished PvE PuG that all have their Protector titles...I would love to see this move us back to the "multi" in MMORPG...

In Neverwinter Nights, the "hard" mode is just more "favorable" rolls in the random damage monsters do (and less favorable for you), also AOE damage (casting by yourself) hurt yourself and your team in the area, etc.

My dorm friend just bought Guild Wars Prophecies at The Wal-Mart for $35. She said Nightfall was selling for $50 and I never asked her what Factions was selling for. She ended up buying Prophecies because she wanted a birthday present that wasn't too expensive.
Anyways, money and gaming aside: bring on Hard Mode! I like to be insta-gibbed sometimes.

Here is what I believe will happen.
You'll be doing, say, Thunderhead Keep.
A counter will appear in your upper left hand screen announcing something like "3764 Red Iris Flowers Sold to Merchants". The number will continue to climb until between 80-120 flowers have been sold.
Then (along about the time you're having to help King Shorty hold the fort down against the Mursaat), the screen will turn dark, the ground will shake, and the announcement "Gwen Walks the Earth" will appear. At which point Gwen will appear and punish you severely for not preventing the Searing. The Mursaat will emit a collective "Eeeek!" and run (okay, float) like hell, with King Ironhammer bringing up the rear (short legs, dontcha know). Your party will be left all alone with Gwen. Assuming you can defeat her, all party members will earn the...well, I forgot what the title was while coming up with all this, but you all earn it. Also a complimentary six-pack of Spiked Eggnog for having to read this post and then do all that. And Gwen's Ear, which any Necromancer can transform into an Ear Golem.
I can't wait, can you?

There's alot going on in here, but... i'm curious what sprouted the addition of this idea. Granted they haven't posted full details just yet, but i'm curious now as to what will be involved. Senseless to bitch and moan without full detail. imho.

May i introduce you to Play.com? They have Prophecies at 15 quid.... ~$25 i think.
Why is everyone so pissed about having to redo missions for the title? The title will mean alot more... be slightly more fun to attain too bar certain missions... (*cough* Jennurs Horde/Nundu Bay, Vizunah Square, Gate of Madness).

I'm not happy because I think I know what does 'hard mode' mean to ANet - unfortunatelly. There are currently um, how many missions? 58? There is NO WAY Devs will spend decent ammount of time to re-design each of them to provide some fun challenge apart from higher lvl mobs + enviromental effects + sweet skills (I recall Gaile writing here and there Devs are so busy with X,Y and Z that they can't be bothered with Q), and I still dream of how sucky I find DoA (the more sucky, I rised my hopes waiting for something fun). And since the harder the mission, the more difficult it is for some classes to get a party - not to mention, Master Party - well, you prolly get my drift by now.
But I agree, no more whining untill details are released.
(Oh goodie, 20 mins for Raisu with... erm.. hm... ugh... 30 lvl mobs multiplied by 2 and all DoA effects...? Oh... yes... Why basicly am I giving them ideas? >.<)

That's funny, I recall lots of my friends buying their Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall from Play.com. And we're not from the UK. I also recall seeing a little button called "International" on their website....
Anyway, I'm looking forward to hard mode, and hoping that it's implemented even with a little thought behind it. I'm kind of hoping that it will be players only (no heroes allowed), which would definetly make it more interesting. The frustration of finding good pugs would never end.

Hard mode the lame idea that broke the camels back. People say it will be like playing a new game. Can we rip Diablo 2 off anymore? One time through most of these missions is quite enough. Why not fix stuff that IS broke. Example Skill title split, Sunspear points. Another suggestion don't impliment stuff that isn't finished. Take the time to finish things then put them in. Instead of doing a half way job so everyone can sit and speculate for weeks or month or however long it will take to make it work. But this really doesnt matter to me anymore anyway since my friend and I will be enjoying the World of Warcraft.
BTW- I was hardcore player 2 accounts with all 3 campaigns on both. Complete CE's on one account. +3500 hours of gameplay, but enough is enough!

Releasing limited amounts of information for the sole purpose of sparking discussion in your fanbase is a bad idea?
Here, let me show you a new word: "Marketing".

Well there "marketing" has driven at least 3 people that I know of (BTW- We are all adults) right away. Selling a half finished product is great marketing? Hmmm with that logic maybe I next time they change my oil they will only change half of it and I will return in anticapation of the other half getting changed!

Based on this logic, you're saying they promised Hard Mode all along, and implemented it late/halfway--this is certainly not the case. This is an MMO (of sorts, anyway); the nature of these games is to continually change.
This complaint could, however, be used against the late DoA, but certainly not in relation to Hard Mode, whatever it may turn out to be.

My point was don't even add a hard mode until other issues are rectified. Then when you add new features:
1. Make sure they work. This is not the first update or added feature that hasn't worked correctly. Maybe I don't know.....test it first. If I handed stuff in where I work like this I would end up in jail. (Enron style)
2. Fix old problems before causing new problems.
3. Finish chapters that are already released before adding more things.
I don't mind change but all this [email protected] updating gets rather old.

All the stores I've seen carry all three campaigns for $50, with the exception of EB games, which sells prophecies for $40.
I for one think hard mode will be cool ^_^
And do remember that hard mode (and titles) are optional....if you don't like it, you don't have to do it.
As for the helping-friends thing, I figured maybe you couldnt choose hard mode unless all the chars in your party had the option, but that's just a guess.

Ok, I have mixed thoughts about the possible introduction of this "Hard Mode"
With my Ranger having all three Protector titles, I will accept it for the fact that it will give me something new to work towards on my Ranger (he is my title collector). A lot of the missions are ridiculously easy, but there are some that do pose a challenge (and those are mainly the ones that are timed ---I swear I hate timed missions). I remember a few times doing Ruins of Morah or Grand Court and getting only expert because the group just wasn't fast enough and was a few seconds off. I've been diligently working hard on trying for the KoaBD and PKM titles, so any devalue to the titles, will surely upset a lot of people. You only wonder if the Guardian title will count towards the KoaBD or if it will be just for the fancy and glory to show off. It will be interesting to see how they approach this. I guess another good thing, is that I will have all the missions unlocked and won't have to spend time doing any primary quests to get the mission.
But, imo, I think this is Anet's way of sorta shadowing the release of the 4th campaign. Since they probably won't keep up with the 6-month commitment, they need something to hold people over until it DOES come out.......and what better way to do that than to address what several people have wanted "a harder game" and have everyone redo ALL the missions over 3 campaigns for the Guardian title. Just something to think about.
