Exactly, ascalon is gonna be watched over again -_- so many spammers. I had just recently been there since I am working on a prophecies survivor and it has gone with mad spamming for ingame gold purchases and website advertisements... I really wish it was easier to report these people. Feels like I have to write essays to explain these stupid acts.

If A-Net want to take it up few steps, they could find these gold selling sites and find way to shut them down. I don't know if it's legal or constitutional to do so. Forcing these sellers off Ebay seems like a big step for A-Net to stop peoples from selling in-game items for real life money. Why not take it up a notch and bring down all those sites out there?

The problem is, why would an host take down a gold selling site? Under what charge? You know, the recent Lineage 2 free-server takedown by the FBI, based on copyright infringement angle could work in Anet's favor to take down those sites.
Basically using Anet property to make money.
If Anet could prove that the gold sellers are infringing on their copyrighted property and making money off copyright property through the illegal use of the time that would otherwise be spent on their server (in this case time spent on the server meaning money for Anet, since entrenched players are more likely to buy future expansions and money going to Anet), the fact that the sellers are selling "time spent making gold" vs actually selling the gold, would be a void arguement.

I for one disagree with what e bay is doing. I primarily play HA (or used to) and since the company whose product I purchased decided to completely change the game I once enjoyed, I should be able to sell it. Honestly what is the harm in that?

Which is what I think is a huge misconception about online games. You don't own anything, you own the discs to install it. I think thats as far as it goes.

Sorry-if this was already asked or given a response too. I just skimmed through the thread. Anyway, isn't buying gold against the rules anyways? So won't they get banned or warned? I'm not sure... I always wondered this..

It's been stated before, i'm sure, but this WILL help the problem greatly. Most people don't trust the sites that sell the gold, as they can be made to look popular and trustworthy when really they are a scam. Ebay, on the other hand, is trustworthy and reputable (sorta).
Good stuff, good stuff.

...... Crap.
>_<;
If only I'd gone through Nightfall a little faster.
There goes my one oppurtunity to get the required kit for Vabbian Armour without relying on the devil's luck. I'll never be able to get those rubies and sapphires now... v_v;
Needless to say I'm not best amused..... and I bet many families in China are going to go hungry now.

Seriously though... I'm probably one of the few who considers this a bad thing.
I mean... sale of GW data for real money is still going to occur....
Ebay was just a site where a buyer is far less likely to be scammed for it. All this is going to do is drive people to look to more obscure and less reputable sites to find what they need.... or in many cases just give up on GW. We as players might not care about those who give up, but they represent lost cash to A-Net... essentially.
Naturally I don't see this as a reason to give up as I've never been a part of it myself.... but I had considered purchasing rubies and sapphires online to get Vabbian Armor.... as I know I'll never be able to get them myself in game (and it would take me forever to get enough cash to buy them).
If A-Net really wanted to put an end to this problem... they should balance out the classes more evenly so none is any better at farming solo than the next. Not necessarily an overall reduction.... but enough so farming would be less profitable to the farmers, and getting what was necessary would be less difficult for those who would normally have to rely on farmers ..... which is usually based on existing funds, class choice, etc. O'course... maybe A-Net should consider selling in-game gold for real cash themselves...
O'course.... the choice in this case is Ebay's own... They're just protecting their own interests... so I can't really blame 'em. Its not helping our situation though.

Theres nothing new about this. ncsoft have done it before, after this push the sellers will reappear on ebay again as has happened before. I personally do not have any problems with people selling their hard earned items on ebay, "you are paying for time and effort spent to obtain these items", bot users don't spend any time or effort. The only way to stop these bot users is ingame with anti-cheat software. Some new american law is gonna make little difference to a chinese farming company and half the copyright isn't worth the paper its written on.
Anyone can report an ebay advert for copyright infringement and get it booted.
If its ok to buy someones account on ebay for £100 for all their hard earned effort levelling and unlocking areas, with all items included, then why can't you pay for effort for the items alone. The major issue i'm sure here that concerns ncsoft is bot usage and the big money being made there.
btw i neither buy or sell items on ebay and am very anti-bot, whether they're farmers or aim bots. I have my own little campaign started here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzYMJS4TgLo to name and shame bot users. Feel free to give your comments/advice

... Meh... Its the fact that what those program-controlled folks earn can be transferred right back to the original player that bugs me... more than actually having essentially AI helpers. Its just a way of getting 8 peoples' gear with one person.... pretty much.
Fundamentally though... the whole bots idea isn't so wrong; just its abuse. They used to make for quite fun opponents on Quake, as I recall.

That's bs, I purchased 3 cds. I am not looking to make a profit off the game. My account is r10 and all I want back is the money I paid for the 3 chapters. Anet has destroyed what I once enjoyed so I should be entitled to do as I wish.
