Worst event ever? Probably, yes.
Now, before you paint me as an Anet hater, this isn't because the event was bad in and of itself, but more that we've been gifted with so many free, high quality, amazing fun-filled events in the past and it didn't quite come up to the same standard.
In my opinion, the rollerbeetle racing is cool, if a little gimmiky, although the rewards I believe could have been better - and I'm talking gamer points here, not lunar tokens. If you won every race, you could make 2 gamer points per minute (3 minutes per race at half a minute intervals) but winning is less about skill per se and comes more down to luck, and even if I was that good, there's no way I could make the next rank of the gamer title even if I played constantly.
Again, that's not because the racing is bad (it's actually possible to gain more points over time than by snowball fighting) its simply that the event is only on for three days, compared to the 2 weeks plus of wintersday: In that time, even a casual gamer could make a rank in the gamer title, I'd hoped to be able to make at least another rank in this event, and was unfortunatley dissapointed.
As for the PvE side, the ingredient farming I felt was a little ambiguous, and the eventual purpose was dissapointing for a lot of people, personally I didn't farm all the items, but a lot of people did believing that they'd be able to get their hands on something better than those who didn't.
Fireworks were great for those as have them, I don't personally care for novelty items, but different strokes for different folks, right? I would have liked to see some festive alcohol to help me work my way up my drunkard title, but hey, we got a sugar drink for the sweet tooth title instead, thats cool. Lunar tokens, ok sure, but they didn't really do anything worthwhile for me since I'm not into things that go pop and everyone got a minipig at the end anyway.
I personally got my first pig in my first ten fortunes. I was really happy to get a gold pet out of one of these things (hadn't read wiki or guru yet to know this happened ) and I wouldn't have sold it anyway, I am into rare items (thats why I carry a plasma blade while running, lol). But in the end, everyone has one, or two, or a dozen. So my one question is: Why is it gold? To me, gold means rare, superior. A better way for me would have been to make the minipig white, and have a gold mini celestial pig that is truly rare...
Besides the above, the decorations and the hat are great, and the spirit of the event was very well done, spoiled only by the usual idiots, and that's no fault of Anet's!
Overall, I would rate this as the worst of the events, but I'd still rather have it than none at all!

Well put it this way. What if you opened about a thousand "fortunes" like I did, and still got no pig? Would you be more dissapointed now, or would you be ok that the value of the pig dropped so dramatically that even if you missed the finale you could still buy one?
I did end up buying a pig hours before the first appearance, but I bought it with the money I made at the event. So basically I'm right where I was before the event plus a couple of mini pets.
I'm pretty pleased with this event. Aside from the lag issues I enjoyed racing, trying to get tokens, playing r/p/s, and making a ton of money during the event.
I'm not sure what you guys were expecting at the finale, but in the future take all the festival celebration descriptions VERY literally. It hinted at rewards for pleasing the pig, and the mini pig was the only thing valuable right? I kind of figured that would happen after I bought a pig, and thought about it. Anet does nothing but aim to please. SO many people were crying about not getting a pig (myself included), and so they fixed that.
You got to admit this event got you playing alot more than you probably would have . I logged 10+ hours when I haven't signed on for two weeks. XD
My only gripe about this event was not getting to see the celestial pig give me a mini pig from any of my "fortunes", and hearing that the initial pigs were spawning like mad because of a code that was fixed... I didn't get one when the code was messed up, and I SURE didn't get one after it was fixed. There wasn't any point in fixing the code if it was going to be free. If the stats on GuildWiki are to be taken seriously the spawn rate went from 3% to a measly .5%... Boo

I loved this event, i spent 0 gold on items, and me and an alliance buddy or 2 did the 10 glitter dust new toon thing and got 1000 tokens in a hour, we then stood around useing and selling them, i ended up making 30k selling dragon roots and furtunes....I knew that minipigs would be cheap, I didnt know i would wake up this morning with 3 pigs............so, made some money, and have some pig(s)..........what more could you want?

I was pretty happy about the event overall.....the aniticapation of trying to get all the ingredients for the chefs (never did get the smoking remains)....was a bit of a let down seeing as we really didnt need ALL of them. But I made some profits as well----selling my dragon roots and crests (had tons of these in storage and at between 500g to 1k ea....) .
The tokens, well, another thing to have in my 'holiday' storage with the jade wind orbs and claws.....at least I was able to do the quests with 8 of my toons and get enough for over 300 fortunes, and while more than half of those were just effects I did get alot of cash---100gold a pop....and about 30% of my fortunes were cash......
all in all I had a good time doing the quests, opening the fortunes (never got a piggy in one of them--but seeing as I have 2 from the end event already was glad I didnt fork out any extra plat for one!), and running around after the pig was great fun for me (yes at 2am after a long day .......)....
so my opinion.....a pretty good event as events go for cantha. 8/10

Honestly, I'm somewhat disappointed in this event myself. I was hoping to be able to work on my lucky/unlucky titles, but I guess that'll have to wait. What I was most disappointed in, though, was what a few other people here seem to have a problem with, and that's the mini pig.
It would have been much better for AreaNet to just not give them out in fortunes and to have hinted at a special prize for especially well-prepared feasts to encourage people to get ingredients for the chefs. I'm mostly frustrated because I spent thousands on lunar tokens before I finally got one when I could have saved my money instead and gotten one at the end.
I did enjoy the rollerbeetle racing, though. I wish my computer didn't lag so much when I played it, but that's not AreaNet's problem.

Enjoyed the event, loved rollerbeetle racing, hated using hundreds of fortunes to get junk.
Absolutely detested getting constant err=40 when trying to logon to get to the pig visits. Not managed to connect around the time of any of them yet.

lol, the district i got a hat in didnt get a mini pig, so i switched to another district planning to afk and found a pig on the floor =) happy me.
Im not sure if this event is great or not, not enough time to play. rollerbeetled once. first try was holding first place for over half the race then lost it.
did 4 of the lunar quests, exchanged ~30 fortunes, no luck.
overall, i didnt expect much, still kept me glued to the comp for an hour or so.

But EVERYONE IN THIS TOPIC has missed the true problem.
Yes. But it's not the OP's fault. It's ArenaNet's
If ArenaNet had even hinted that there would be a "rare minipet during the finale!" people would have expected the Minature Pig and planned accordingly. Thus, less dissappointment.
ArenaNet has always sucked at weighing risk vs. reward; it's the nature of the game (see the new improved Mallyx the Unyielding)
I believe the true problem is a lack of information from ArenaNet with respect to event. We never did figure out what the Lucky Aura did, right?

Qouted for truth, all.
I too was pretty bummed 'bout the event. I didn't mind wasting my time too much, as I don't get mad at this game much anymore. But yeah, it was pretty discouraging that everyone got a pig...well, a winning district.
P.S: What server do you play in, Zinger?

It sucks, Anet decision for making you dependent on your district to get a minipet or not wasn't exactly the best one.... If you happen to be in a crappy district everytime you'll never get it. And once again the dumb intervals. WTF why can't an event be continuesly or just happen every 15 minutes or something.

There's always a thread called "Worst event ever" every time Anet holds one of these things. I had fun. I didn't expect anything more than I was given. Try not to take things for granted and realise that this isn't something you "need", it's something extra they give us. It's like being given a gift and telling the person who gave you it that it wasnt good enough.

ArenaNet's business model is "quality over quantity." Therefore, if there's less quality, we should be dissappointed.

Many things good with the event.
I kinda agree with the OP, though.
Since I spent 264 fortunes (gathered by all my characters) with no minipig (my girlfrend got one on the 14th), spent hours farming ingredients, just to see the ridiculous reward....
I could have go out, instead of that I GRINDED the whole event during the weekend, making it no fun after all... That's my fault I recognize it. I would have let it aside.
But you know what? Next time I won't do anything, just leech and afk the finale like many people did while I will develop other characters or just go back to real life. And I think many people will do the same. And I don't care if i'm turned into a little piggie to the end of the event, at least it will be funny as I won't be alone.
What I'm saying is if you let people who "worked hard" have so poor reward, don't count on them to do this again. They will just be turned off special events to concentrate on rewarding playing.

Also, ive had great fun playing my sin with lucky aura active, all those crits+double strikes makes boss farming go much faster

I *expected* something along the lines of pigs at the end of the festival, so I spent all my time farming the lunar tokens (I myself made over 70k this weekend on tokens alone, not counting fireworks- and that's low.) and selling them to people instead of trying to get a pig myself. 7 different festivals and you kinda expect certain things to happen.

guildy pig in first try, second guildy 30 tries. Me 200+ tries and nothing. Bought one for 3 ecto's. Today got one for free at event :S. Why couldn't they just tell people that you can get a pet through the mask distribution. Not Amuzed

It is an event, none the less...far better than another triple chance green drop one, imo....but like any event, some will like/hate it more than others.
Everyone that attended got items not previously available and, since there are countless threads of "gimme, gimme gimme", some still aren't satisfied with what they got...but how many of those players still stayed at the event for the duration, I wonder?

^^ great point ^^ I was also a little more creative in my thinking that, since it's a "Year of the Pig" theme, why weren't the masks "pig" masks instead of "lion" masks...and why rollerbeetle races (though they are a blast) instead of mini pig races? Ah well, I guess it'd be too much to ask to make the Drunkard title a 12 step one?

I had a good time at the event and that's what really matters. It's not about making money off of people or being one of the few to have a "prestige" item. As long as some people enjoy the event, it was a great time for them and again that's what really matters.
As for obtaining a mini pig, I wasted some time doing all the quests with eleven of my chars collecting tokens to get fortune tickets just to obtain a mini. After opening 300+ tickets I didn't receive one and you know what, I didn't care that I wasted time trying to get one. So, I was like " Eh, tough luck. Life goes on." Although, I was glad I received one in the finale and I see nothing wrong with everybody having one. Don't take it so seriously, remember it's just a game.

I think the OP has a valid point. It's like Anet deciding to make the Rit hero easy to get. Then all the people that worked their asses off to get it originally feel cheated....

i really enjoyed this event, havent actually done a holiday event for guildwars in a long time and i loved the roller beetle races. I did 98 fortunes and got 0 pigs which pissed me off but o well its a gamble. I do however hate that spiritual possession, i did a whole SF run with it and got a headache :P
Overall: Good event, KEEP THE BEETLERACING!!!!
