so far 1700 gamer points on this event.. Getting a top 100 score seems to be virtually impossible right now as when you do finally get lucky enough to get the right combos, you have to worry about people kding you when they get to the bridge part. Regardless of the fact that you are atleast 30 sec ahead of them and they havnt a snowballs chance in hell of catching you anyways.
/end pissed
But yeah as namkey said 470 isnt hard, getting above 472 is a challenge though, as if you dont get the right skills out of the box as you roll through it, you need to wait for it. And yeah that ussually doesnt happen very quickly.

There is few guys with quite few times on top 100 (best over 10) with same character and some with very similar names. They must be very lucky or have been busy in ID like most of top 100.

Anyone have any guesses as to what the prize is? I still think it'll be a mini rollerbeetle. Though I didn't get a top 100, just curious.

I think Anet did this wrong. By making the top 100 get prizes, it encouraged people to sync with guildies and stuff so that they could get an advantage. If, say, everyone who got 450,000+ got a prize, it wouldn't really be that way. (Not actually 450,000, that's just a number I pulled out of my x)

The highest I ever got was 455,000 and that was with a super and an echo. I had some runs that probably would have been even better, but got knocked down once or twice and lost momentum. I played for half a day straight on Saturday... and then didn't play at all the rest of the event because: (1) Found there was no way I was going to make the top 100 without a horseshoe up my arse; (2) Got sick of running the exact same track over and over.
However, I have to give props to ANET... cause the New Year's Event... like all other holiday events... are always fun overall (I pretty much go broke at every event!)

I didn't have an endless amount of free time this weekend, but I played the rollerbeetle races as much as I could, and really enjoyed it. It was a total blast, but I was actually going to make a post complaining about the multiple scores. I'm very glad it'll be taken care of. That was just stupid.
I didn't get to race a bunch, but I got to where I thought I was pretty darned good. Yesterday, I won 21 races in a row, and most of them weren't even close.
I think beetle races are won in the first ten seconds, and by the first cave, I often lost sight of the other racers on my minimap. Most of my races were just against my own best time, because I was pretty much alone out there. That meant no knockdowns, usually.
My best race, pickup-wise, was two SBs with one echoed. My best score? 464k. Not anywhere near 470k.
Now, I'm not a sore loser. I had a LOT of fun. I'm not gritting my teeth in frustrated anger, but I had decided that getting a score that high must come down to PURE luck. Finding out that people had five, or even eight scores on the board, pretty much blew that theory. How many billions of races would you have to run to be that lucky?
So, now that it's over, why don't one of you people that say it's sooo easy to get a score over 470 tell me how you do that CONSISTENTLY? I'd seriously love to know, just for the sake of curiosity.
Regardless, I really did have a lot of fun. The beetles are SO cute!

Just know that It IS possible to get 470k+ no problem with only one echo + SRB. I got 476k with only Echo + SRB. You just have to use it at the exact time, and after getting the combo on the first two boxes, skip all other boxes and make as many cuts as possible. As for the top 100, I actually think there are only 50-60 or so unique players on the board. Since currently I'm like 13th, but I counted like 8 unique players.

Personally, i think they messed this game up. I think they should give out more then the top 100 people because all it came down to was luck. I mean being in the top 100 meant that you were lucky. They did a poor job at figuring a way to determine the top 100 scores. Why not just make make us pick numbers between 1 and 1 trillion and see who gets closest. Seriously.

Stop whining about that this all came down to luck. Stop pretending like you'd win when it didn't. I actually agree that this was more chance based then skill based, ANet is trying to keep up a good community here, and you don't do that by selecting the best every single time.
And still, expect that 90% of the people getting that Minipet at the end did several hundred runs. They all put alot of effort into this, and that's what really matters.
Grats to everyone who won a minipet Too bad they're tradable though, this'll make some people look like they won the Rollerbeetle races, even though they didn't.

There is more to rollerbeetle racing than just luck. How do you think Dark Sentry got his name up there like 10+ times??

Im saying the skill behind it comes down to luck though. You have to get the luck, then know how to use it. And no i didnt get in top 100, but my best score was only out of top 100 by about 1000 points. And i spent plenty of hours playing this mini game over the weekend, so yes i spent my fair share of time trying to get a top 100 score. I had plenty of times where if things worked out right i would have gotten a score of 473K+, but they didnt. Thats why im saying it was driven by luck.
