Unien, you have to agree that whatever A-Net do, the public (community) has something to complain about!

Showing off weapons in towns wouldn't be a great idea, in fact... all you can accomplish by doing that is to show off the baddest or the rarest weapons you got.

Well what's the point of pveing anyway?
I'd rather show off my character's weapons in outpost than a minipet.

I dunno about you, but i never asked for or wanted pets in outposts (to my recollection...but i dont trust my memory).
Mini-pet racing has been around for a while.....you need to be partially assasin...choose a start, choose a finish line.
One person stands at the finish line. The racers cast recall. They go to the starting line and undo recall and wait at the finish line.
The first pet to get back to its master wins.

Besides, with showing weapons...
Do we really want a bunch of drunken armed warriors on a sugar rush running around town?

I agree, I didn't recall a post on Guru that has peoples begging for mini pets in town.

I keep seeing people use this excuse and still ignore my suggestion of just muting the BACKGROUND SOUNDS in OPTIONS when you're in outposts so you can STILL hear the music.
You DONT have to mute all your sounds. It was simple enough to just go into your options to mute the pet sounds which is why I dont understand why people were making such a big fuss over the sounds.

I don't think mini pet racing is as fun as rolling dice. I'm not so sure if it's true, but it seems like some mini's are faster than others, so to win you just get the fastest one.

We didn't ignore your suggestion. Reactions ranged from incredulity at the sheer ridiculousness of it, to outright.. no wait, there was just the incredulity.
That slider doesn't just mute the minipet noise, it controls a wide selection of sounds. I've had each and every one of the 5 volume sliders in the exact position I want them to be to enjoy the game's audio for months now, and all was well. You want people to go into their options every damn time they move into and out of an outpost and call that a solution? Nuts!
And do you really believe ANet muted the pets because people made a fuss out of it? I'd rather think they did it because they're sensible people who realized they completely messed up the outpost soundscape. ANet only ever fixes unintended or completely disastrous behaviour as fast as they fixed this. They never act upon player opinion in just a matter of hours.

I dont see how it's ridiculous or nuts or that hard to go into options to move a slider down. Ohhh yes, that's so hard and ridiculous.
Guess what? I always have to click off local chat in outposts because I can not stand the spam. Then I click it back on in missions or whenever I want to actually talk. Is that any different from what you could have done?
I mean hey, I can respect that you dont like the sounds. Personally I dont care for them. But what gets me is that there were options for you people to take to avoid the sounds, but you chose not to use them and instead went to complain. And when suggestions are given, you choose not to take them and call them ridiculous. Clearly, you didnt want a solution, you just wanted things your way.
I mean don't go making an excuse that pet sounds were drowning out the music when you could have easily turned off the background sounds and have the music unaffected.

Yeah, it is. there's no question about it.

Yes, it's a lot different. Here's a challenge for you. First, turn your local chat off and on a thousand times, then repeat the following steps just as often: 1) open options - 2) put the volume slider in question all the way to the left - 3) close options - 4) open options again - 5) put the slider in the exact original spot - 6) close options again.
Do that, then come back and tell me they're no different.

We hardly even started complaining. There have been and still are issues done to death with volumes of complaints and suggestions that are a couple of magnitudes more numerous than what's been said about pet sounds in outpost in the few hours they were there. ANet shut the pets up because they wanted to, not because a few people wanted to. And coincidentally, that was exactly the solution I wanted. Isn't life great?

Meh. What's done is done. And whether or not the complaining was the cause of the pet mutes doesnt matter. The point was that there were options for you complainers. You refused to use them. And now there are NO options at all for the other side of people who actually like the sounds. Options are always a good thing, even if you are too lazy to use them.

Of course there are options for people who like the sounds. They can visit the 'real' version of their minipet, wherever it is they spawn, and record the game's sound output. Cut out a good take of the intended sound, save it as a soundfile and find a freeware application that plays random files that are found in a particular folder at random intervals. I know such applications exist. Surely, if that's too much trouble, these pet sound afficionadoes are just being lazy.
Heck, they could mix in a homebrew squeeky and tear-choked 'I love you, master' and enjoy it even more.

While I understand that some people would rather not have to endure the sounds of mini-pets or be bothered with adjusting a slider on their sound options when in town; I do NOT understand why those who loved their mini-pets, sounds and all, can no longer enjoy them to their full extent even when outside of a town.

No, I'm too busy making a petition to get rid of all rap. Because I hate all rap and I refuse or I'm simply too lazy to just change the station that my radio is on.
Yes, I can also make up lame extreme examples as well.

Hey, guys,
Good news from Programmer Jim. While some of the requests are not doable -- for instance, we can't readily add a "toggle sounds on/off" without taking significant amounts of time -- we can make this change: - When miniatures are in town, they will be silent
- When miniatures are in missions, explorable areas, or guild halls, they will have sounds
I think this is a great way to meet the desires of most players, and I'm happy to say that this should be in the game within a week or so.

(Not all, but the majority.) Too often, I've seen people denigrate the Jungle Troll because of his growl, or the Kuunivang because of the whomp/whomp/whomp of the beating wings.
I will be happy to ask about the selective return of sounds, but please, let's focus not on minutiae like this, but on the bigger picture. How much time would someone ask we invest to make the sounds adjustible, optional, or toggleable? And what cool new feature are you willing to postpone while we make what many would consider a minor adjustment? If it takes a programmer hours to make these options, I believe there are better uses for his/her time. However, if this is a minor thing, and can easily be made selectable, or adjustible, we'll do that, I'm sure.

I'm very happy that the voice of reason (that is, those of use who pointed out the illogical nature of swinging from one extreme to the other) won out, and that those of us who voiced our 1) displeasure 2) constructive criticism 3) better ways of going about this; probably resulted in this. A 24-hour about face, from the first quote above to the second.
