So has anyone speed ran guild wars?
So I was bored and browsing through youtube when I stumbled upon this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYWXs...elated&search=
The player finishes pre-searing in 5 minutes. So then it got me thinking. Has anyone actually do a whole speed run through the entire guild wars? Any of the campaigns? Like for prophecies, from making your character in pre-searing to finishing Hell's Precipice.
And before anyone says "oh this game is way too long to speed run", people have done speed runs for a lot of long games. The final fantasy and legend of zelda series come to mind. There are tons of speed run attempts at various games in those series (and some of those games are longer than gw).
Personally I don't have the patience to play through a game hundreds of times to find the absolute quickest way to beat it and how to cut off time each attempt. But some people do and then make videos off it and I (and many others) enjoy watching these videos....
So ya, has anyone speed run'd guild wars before? If not, anyone up for the challenge? Of course there would have to be some restrictions on it like not getting run (you can run yourself though) and can't get higher level people to help you (because that would just make it pointless). Only allowed to use hench/hero or something.... So uh... discuss!

Seems interesting, but it would take a few days to beat the whole thing, and I'm not watching a video that flippin long.

Ive seen a couple of those videos, zelda i think was the one that was the sickest, watching someone finish Zelda:MM in 3hrs, really crazy considering the average time, the problem with GW is defining "outside help", you said no runners allowed, but if you are going thru the missions you will have party members unless its 100% hench, so what would be defined as being dragged thru in a mission and doing it as a part of team.

if you got same lvl guildies/friends to help you on missions and other stuff it would speed it up but be a pain to organise with little benefit to them.
random players would mean longer times as they use builds and items not best suited to certain stuff.
imo it would be too time consuming and tedious for anyone to compete against others to get fastest time.

With running: Need about 3 warriors, 1 ele, 1 necro and 2 monks.
Finish pre searing
Run to Drognars, buy max armor
Run to Thunerhead Keep
Buy some useful skills @ Dakk.
Do the quest @ ring of fire, remember to cap any elites if the chance arrises, need exp. Use Exp. scrolls.
Do Ring of Fire.
Do Abaddon's Mouth.
Do Hell's Precipe. Done.
Without running it would take too long time, but if you don't record it, you can just do /age. It would take ages if you're restricted to hencies though.

Ya sorry, I wasn't thinking. Should be ran, my bad.
It wouldn't take a few days. As it is, prophecies on my first play through was what? like 40-50 hours, thats with a lot of side quests too. I'm sure someone could cut it down to under ten. Take a game like Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. That game takes at least 50 hours just playing through it at regular pace, yet its already been speed ran at like 5 hours or something. Its also a pretty new game, so I'm sure some more time can be cut off.
Also, the videos aren't that long. Most off them are played at a "fast forward" rate, like anywhere from 2-10x the speed it is played at.

It hardly seems worth the effort. At least with Zelda or Final Fantasy it can be pretty fun to see someone rampage through the game completing it in record time... because its purely them.
Doing in GW seems rather pointless. It wouldn't be interesting to see at all. Zelda/FF you see the character develop to be able to accomplish things at the bare minimum... here you'd see a char been ran everywhere while his team do all the work as he is completely useless. This just isn't the sort of game a speed run would be fun to see.
I mean i got Protector of Tyria on my own for every mission but Hells Precipice on my Dervish in under 24 hours. I'd say that was pretty fast. Was fun to do, least the later game missions were, but to watch? All you'd see is a dervish rampaging around with Avatar of Lyssa leeroying into mobs hoping the heros/hench could save his skin. Believe me, Abaddons Mouths start is alot more fun to rampage through than watch someone having all the fun.

If you skip the jungle missions and go from LA to SC, didn't stop to cap too much, had scrolls and money to buy skills, and ignored bonuses... you might be able to get proph done in 16 hours or less.
If you fought from ascalon and ignored all the missions until SC, maybe quicker, maybe not.

Didn't LBS used to do world tours? where they would run a character from pre-sear to the ring of fire islands? I'm fairly sure they did something along those lines.
Not sure if it fits your category of Run'd though :P

Yeah, we used to do runs like that... can't remember the fastest time though.
You would have to be more specific about the constraints for the run.
-Start in pre? that means you have a group of 4 meet up in ascalon (maybe 2 groups) and then fight/run to droks, where you would join to form a complete group.
-Can you use outside runners?
-All missions?

Running Thru Factions
A guildie and my self made a Tank and a Monk lvl 1 newb Island. 7hours 43 mins later we beat shiro. All we did is primary quests. It helped alot that we had beaten the game with 4 other chars first. We new what to do. We are going to do it again soon and i am going to try to frap it and put whole thing on you tube.
Peace

Prophesies - All missions & bonuses, from Pre to Hells, in less than 24 hours. 2 players (alternating classes along the way) and 1 idle client. Doable, done it quite a few times (and boy did it pay well).
Factions - Faster than Prophecies with the exception of required Faction to proceed.. if the person has that Faction already then it's bloody fast.
Haven't tried "running" NF yet.
I'm sure with the addition of Heros the first 2 runs would go much faster than they used to.

a couple of people in my old guild used to do something similar to this. although they weren't running the entire game. they were just pvp'ers, so they'd make a character and rush through the game to ascension, (back when ascension was instant lvl 20) and go buy 20 skills, and do it again.
they just did it for the unlocks at first, but it quickly became a race of how to do it fastest. ad how many lowbies you could take in a group to complete the various desert missions without sacrificing too much time.
this can all be done faster now, as people have made and perfected better running builds, skills have been changed, and people generally understand the game better.
the running there just consisted of a warrior or a ranger with sprint/charge/stormchaser/whatever, mending, selfheals, condition/hex removal

Technically, "speed run" is an informal name. You don't conjugate verbs that appear in names. However, speed run'd is not exactly proper anyway, being a noun, not a verb. A better way would've been to say "Has anyone completed a speed run of Guild Wars"? But it is typically accepted in colloquial speech to make nouns into impromptu verbs, like "Last night, while we were Guild Wars-ing, Bill and I were playing the newest dungeon, when he totally Leeroy'd me. Then I went tool shed on his butt."
Before you grammar nazi someone, be sure to take colloquial norms into account.

Anyone can get run through the game. That's not a speedrun.
No outside help--at all, whether it be runners, people for quests/missions, nothing. Just AI.
No using storage--at least, to get things from other characters. Fresh, isolated start.
That's about as fair as I can imagine it. I bet it could still be done in a very short amount of time.

Its a little dumb... the video anyway. That person missed all the skills. I use to speed though pre-searing the same exact way as the video for only one reason. To make a storage player to get to the Guild Hall. There is no other reason to do it unless you want to be short changed of alot of skills.
