Yes please, it would be so nice to have individual Caster items instead of one staff, and one focus/cane... plus they seem to be dull compared to other weapons

I think that sword didn't win because it's not a very unique design. It's just a sword. It's a pretty model (congrats to whomever made it), but in the game it would just be a normal long sword with a slightly different hilt. You wouldn't even be able to make out the inscriptions.
That's the problem with designing weapons for a game like this: you have to make sure the shape of the weapon is unique, not the detailing. If you could turn the form of your design into a silhouette and be unable to distinguish your design from someone else's, you've failed. (Unless you're doing something for a game like... Oblivion, where the weapon is literally right in your face all the time.)

We would like to ask that no one post until after the winners are announced and the art is posted on our site. There is a reason for this that has to do with how we may go about making the announcements and revealing the new items.

I'm planning on trying to come up with a caster weapon or 2 - while usually drawing swords has been my thing, I think caster weapons could really use a burst of life, so that's what I'll probably aim for.

I think so too, however I find it harder to draw (pencil or photoshop) caster items than swords etc. Still i have a few ideas i won't waste.
PS: Galie, is it ok for us to send printed computer-generated images?

The rules state that the designs should be inspired on Tyria/Elona/Cantha. Take the time to re-read them perhaps.

You have to remember, Swords in this game are mostly seen for the blade itself. In making a design for Guild Wars you have to think about how big it will be in proportion to the player and how visible it will be, as well as signature features.
The blade shape and design is not very memorable and is rather bland. The handle looks great, but your hand covers that. The guard is kinda so so, i dont know how detailed it would look once rendered.

Is there any way that the FAQ can be cleaned up a bit? It seems that the FAQ questions and the answers kind of mesh all together, especially with everything being same font, same color, and bold. Sometimes it hard to tell when a FAQ question or answer starts.
Something like this might make it easier for people:
Example Layout:
Can I relay a contest entry through a third party in order to skirt the eligibility rules?
No. Each entry must be the unique property of the person who enters and prizes can be sent only to the entrant.
Why are European contestants between ages 13 and 18 required to enter through their parent?
There are legal restrictions on contests in Europe that make it appropriate to require that Europeans in that age group enter through one of their parents or guardians. Credit can be given to the artist, rather than the parent, if that preference is indicated on the entry itself.
I'm sure you get the point. Having the questions bold and the answers normal makes it easier to find what you are looking for, easier to read, and looks more professional.
