You won't know that I am a survivor until the mission is done, and I will be there start to finish. I won't jepardize your missions or game play with my goals. If I die in that mission, I will finish it, then delete and try again. I have all the other titles I want on other characters, cartographer still in progress on one. This character slot is reserved for the "survivor". If it takes 20 tries, (attempt 4 underway) so be it.

This I can admire. While my oppinion on the title still stands, I wish those who did seek to earn this title were more like you, Perkunas. Kudos to you and good luck.

Actually, I can. In addition to my testimony, here is a screenshot that shows one of my survivors (the mesmer, Blame goes Lockdown) progressing through the game naturally:
http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/3...smarch1lv0.jpg
Note the progress on skill caps, missions, and so on, which tells you approximately how far I am in the games I am (thead, unwaking, and drogzon respectively) and how often I got masters on the missions. Note on my other survivor how I earned KoaBD at the same time and capped ~150 elites. How could I have gotten that by leeching? Or pugging, for that matter?
I have never dropped a pug because I have never played with another human on that toon. It has all been hero/hench. I don't pug because the henches are far, far smarter. I have never power leveled because....well, its dumb, expensive, and boring. That any anyone with a brain never dies in PvE, so why bother?
So here is "proof" -- my testimony that I earned it and a screenshot that supports it. If needed, I could subpoena others who saw me working towards it and dredge up a few more screens. But why? What proof do you have to establish I did not earn it? Or that ANY or ALL other survivors did not earn it? Chances are you have no proof, despite the fact you demanded it of others...
POT!! CAN YOU HEAR ME!! THIS IS THE BLACK KETTLE...YOU ARE BREAKING UP!!!!

Survivor definitely isn't easy, but it's actually not too difficult if you're careful (although I do think some professions are more difficult than others). If you've done the quests and missions before, it helps a lot (it's almost like cheating lol). Also, heroes make it so much easier now.
The biggest problem is lag or a disconnect error, or just making a stupid mistake.
As to people leeching, I'm not sure that I have ever been in a PUG where a survivor quit. Perhaps I have, and I just didn't know that was the reason why a party member suddenly dropped out. But IMO, disconnect errors occur far more often than a surivor dropping to save his hide.
Even if a surivor suddenly quits, for the large majority of quests and missions, being short one person isn't going to doom your party to failure. Moreover, survivors usually avoid those quests/missions that would (unless they're a gateway to a ton of XP, or are part of the early primary story line).
Whenever I attempt Legendary Survivor, I NEVER enter a PUG. Too often, it seems like that's a one-way ticket to a rez shrine. Heroes and henchmen all the way FTW.

I got the legendary survivor title, back when I had only henchies available.
I did this mainly by never entering PUGs. And the suggestion that you can get the third rank by being power-levelled is plain daft.
I have to say however I was relieved when I could die again tho

I too was wondering how anyone could be "power leveled" to LS, since the AI seems especially fond of running around - no doubt looking for any leeching survivors.

That's what I hate in the concept of survivor as it is now.
You make a character and play a lot with it, make several missions, quests, gain XP in all possible ways, get skills and elite.
Then you reach 1M XP (that is a lot of XP, I have 6 chars which completed 3 campaigns and they have 1.3M - 1.5M each), have a death, and all of a sudden your character in which you put so much effort is JUNK, it's worth NOTHING, the only thing you can do with it is wipe it and make a new one.
So, your survivor character exists only to get the title, once you have a single failure it's worth nothing, it's useless and has to be deleted.
That's total BS, I like every character I have created, they all have a "story", recently I made a second warrior in Elona (my first is Tyrian) just because I liked the look and wanted a warrior on that account, and yesterday evening I hit lvl 20 in 16 hrs played, then checked and I have 2 deaths.
It wouldn't be a huge effort to delete it and make a new one, now that I know the system in 5-6 evenings I could do everything again putting bit more attention, but why should I do it?
And what about my beloved Tyrian characters, which I have lived tons of adventures together, and played through 3 campaigns with friends and guildmates?
I like both the 1 year old and the 16hrs old in the same way, this game of creating/deleting is total crap.
It has already been said thousands of times, but I don't care and repeat for the 1.001st time, this title is very badly designed, and the only reason I can see is that A.net, instead of creating new playable content in game, gives something to do to those who have already finished it, in the form of creating/repeat-the-same-content-again-and-again/delete/create/repeat/ delete ... and so on.
It's just a way to keep players busy with the creating/deleting work, very cheap for A.net because they didn't add any new content for this, just 3 lines of codes to count the deaths LOL.

I got S3 on my paragon finally the other day after a lot of hours with henchies. Not once did I join a Pug group because I wasn't going to risk letting them down by jumping out if I was down to <100hp.
I think the amount of people leeching this is not as many as most think. Many of those I've come across when skill capping have been doing it the same way as me.
There are two other S3's in my guild (we lean heavily towards title gaining for fun) and once you get the basics sorted out it's not as hard as first thought.
On a final note. Survivor title is not required, it's not unbalanced or unfair. I deleted an existing character to make my survivor (several times in fact until I worked out a decent way of doing it).

This confirms what I said.
Of course survivor is not required, as no title is required, but it's the only title that forces you to DELETE completely a character if you want to get it and you have a failure for any reason.
What about if to get protector, you should get masters on your very 1st try for every mission, and no second chance?

Sure, if you're only allowed to do the mission once..ever. Although by your arguement I got all but one masters on a mission, surely I don't have to do the mission all over again right? Can't I just have the title?
I can't see how you're being forced, unless of course you have 26 completely full character slots. It's called survivor for a reason.

I think you mis-interpreted me. When my ranger died, I made her exactly the same in every way because I like her so much. I remade her because I was determined to get Legendary Survivor with her, but that wasn't the only reason. When I created her, she was the one to be my title holder. She is going to try and max every title. The only title that is out of her reach is Defender of Ascalon because that requires you to die.

The only thing I hate about this title is that it isnt hardcore enough. You should have an option when creating a character so you can say you are making a survivor character, when this char dies you can only go to the balthazar temple with it, or delete it automatically outright. And the ranks should be endless.

But I don't think that it was ever intended to be a "hardcore" title.

In my view the problem with this is that hardcore only works if everyone is hc - because only then you share the same outlook and have to work together. Other than that you will just be a loner in a multiplayer game.
If ANet wanted that, they had to offer an international hc sector for each outpost - you may only enter while with 0 deaths . VIP lounge
But atm I too feel the title to be broken...

i think its quite hardcore, in fact i'll go as far as saying very fricking hardcore. it is not easy to go to 1,337,500 experience without dying one single time (without power levelling or whatever the fI_Ick lamers do to get there).
done honestly, and with honour (aka not leeching, not just staying at the start of every mission when your guildie or friend does it for you, not hitting that 'x' on the screen, etc) this title is not easy.
and i dont mean the Survivor (1), i mean Indomitable Survivor (2) and especially Legendary Survivor (3).
27 hours i spent on my necro/mm, Survivor (1). And look where it got me...death in The Undercity after that Chormab, Burning Heat Am Fah elementalist boss sloshed me with 2 hits (after i had slaughtered his huge-ass 12-member Am Fah mob).
So yes, it is frustrating, and yes, it is not easy. Period.
Is Survivor (1) cool? sure. But maxing it, aka Legendary Survivor (3), is that much cooler, or should i say 1337er?
