Question Level 20 cap (can't it be doubled to 40?)

What's the reason for capping character levels at 20? Don't you wish it was a little higher than this? At least 30-40?

I'm sure part of the reason is a balance issue and I really would like to praise Anet for how well the game is balanced. e.g It seems to me that all the professions are pretty much equal and I like the idea that low level monsters can still kill you if they work together.

Why can't Anet double the limit from 20 to 40? Sure there would be a balance issue but why can't they then just double the levels of some of the monsters? Is it really that hard to just double everything??? The balance should still remain, right?

No, one of the main concepts of the level 20 fact is, unlike most other games, your friends don't have to grind forever to catch up and play with others. Sure maybe 40 isn't so high but, but then Anet would have to go through ALL areas and retweak mobs, quests, etc etc. Too much trouble and not worth it. There's nothing wrong with the level20 cap imo.

The main reason is that Anet wants to emphasize player skill in that you spend most of the time at max lvl with max stats and it all depends on how you play your character. It doesn't want to be the kind of game where you have to constantly grind to stay competitive with the enemies and progress through the story-line.

I heard that in the new GW they would raise the cap. But don't quote me on this.

...and then 2 weeks later someone asks, "well 40 is nice, but why not 50? its not that much more than 40!" and so on, and so on, until im trying to level my new char up to 80 to get off newbie island.

level 20 cap = no grind. its here to stay. deal with it.

Because I don't like having to get to the max level in order to be balanced with everyone else.

I can see what you are saying people and I have to agree, but I don't think 40 is really that high. It doesn't take long to reach level 20 anyway.

I have searched, but I asked a series of questions, not just one. Specifically I wanted to know peoples opinions on doubling everything. I wanted to know how easy it would be to just change a value from 1 to 2, or from 20 to 40.

3 Guild wars games, it is not hard at all to reach level 20. Why do you say "my new char has to be level 80 to get off newbie island"? We all know the newbie islands have really weak monsters. I did say SOME of the monsters should be doubled, not all. I think leaving the start of the game as it is would be a good idea but increasing the levels of the monsters towards the end of the game.

Why have a levelling system at all then? Why not all start with maxmium attribute points?

I am just saying a lot of people don't play Guild Wars because of this low level cap. It is not bad for me, though, I am fine with it, but I like levelling my character up, and when I reach level 20 I feel like "urgh" I would just like this experience to grow a little more and last longer.

Becasue then it would take a huge fun factor out of the game.

First,

GW is not WoW, thus, not a game with focus on lvl and grind.
GW is all about skill balancing, so lvl20 with 200 attribute points is what it should stay as.

No need to increase the lvl and thereby change the entire game, as that will be it's consequence.
Further, grinding to a certain extend is not the major part of GW, yes you can do it, but only to get the good looking items as in armor and weapons.
It's not the stats on the items, just the looks that sell for huge amount of ectos sometime.

Statwise, you can easily do as well with collector items.

So I definately do oppose the suggestion for a higher lvl cap.

I'd do that, if I could.

For your level argument, you're merely delusioning yourself. Leveling does not make you any stronger, when everything else is leveling too. That removes the entire idea and only leaves the psychological effect of it.

Besides, GW isn't about grinding. Do not add it!

So the collective GW playerbase spends an extra week (for some it will be more, others less) so we get a new number at the top of the screen? Because once we all reach the cap, nothing will fundamentally change. Just higher stats, which all balance out the same.

And of course someone will say, "Why have levels at all?!" Personally, I say screw 'em, but GW has a balanced system. You work your way up, learn the game, gain your skills, and then complete the challenging stuff at max level. It’s doable, even for casual players. And from what I've read, you level up even faster in Factions than Prophecies.

Oh, and you haven't provided a single reason as to how the game will be more fun and entertaining with a higher level cap.

Actually I wouldn't mind to increase the level cap as long as it doesn't affect you stats, i.e. no further increase of attribute points, health, energy, etc.

Levels beyond 20 would be solely for ego padding, prestige, to show off all the XP and skill points you got, kinda like a title.

Why do people always have to use WoW as a example.
"I dont want a auction house this isn't WoW."

Either way I don't want the lvl cap changed. However I would like a title for Xp gained. Mabey you could still level but not gain any attribute points just an idea.

Heh, all that would accomplish is a bunch of level 500+ bot farmers running around.

I think it's about time someone put a note in a sticky saying something like "Do not make suggestions to change level cap, it's been suggested and will not be implemented"
