Whatever they do, it sure as hell won't be worse than the Assassin, Ritualist, Paragon, and Dervish.

I like the idea of playable races myself. I was hoping that Tengu may have become a playable race already when NF was first mentioned, alas, no luck.
I cant see there being any balance issues, they're prolly all be the same, but with different skins.

I have pondered this also. I have come to two conclusions (not that I know). There may be a way to incorporate the Realm of Torment to involve the time travel....
Or a much better idea IMO:
Use "the mists" to travel between times. My Idea of it is this: There would be a new type of "ascension" one that allows you to become a "mistwalker" (via a series of quest and/or missions) this would allow you to use the mist to travel between the times. The mist was there from the beginning of time, so why would it not have it's secrets? I really like this idea. I think it would work. Just my opinion.

It only makes sense that our characters will be able to travel between the games for one main reason...
Why would they give us Asura minipets if we could never take them to GW2?

I would only support the idea of races if they were only cosmetic.
Races in many games are annoying because the become part of a "build". People would be like... You're a Charr ranger? But we all know Charr get damage reduction from their tough skins and are only good as tanks. Or a Dwarf Elementalist wouldn't get the HP and hammer boosts. Or weird crap like that.

If races are purely graphical, no problem. The problem is when races start having an effect on gameplay -- race XYZ has more magic, whatever.
And when you get the stupid "cute" and "furry" races.

If they had special abilities they might imbalance the game, but if they're just cosmetic then there's no problem with new races.

Completly agree.
But, if I don't get a chance to continue playing as a bunheaded monk..I won't be buying GW2.

I think everyone is waiting (some hoping) for new professions, dont really see how new races could imbalance and new professions dont. Unless you guys dont want new professions, new skills etc
adding new races would be like adding new professions (actually, if they keep the same professions in new races or equivalent it would be exactly the same).
I would like new races for 2 reasons:
a) esthetic purposes (It would be a change like a massive upload of everything: armours, weapons, skills, etc
b) gameplay/rpg purposes: I would like to play the story from other perspective... I would like to choose. Dont think the storyline is a problem, we already have tengu hench and centaur hero... so new races are already in the game, just make them playable...
no elfs, please more originality... I know they are cool (for some) but theres already too many "elf, dwarf, orc games" and theres no game where u can play as a tengu, charr (they r cute eh eh he) or any other race
but dont really think anet will do it...

That looks like a straw man argument. Why do they NEED to be unique statistically? Why can't they just be more cosmetic choices? Do you think that short and tall characters or male and female characters should have different stats? If, as an example, Guild Wars 2 has 3 races: Humans, Charr and Forgotten, with no statistical differences, we'll probably see a lot of big, tough Charr Warriors and a lot of Human and skinny Forgotten casters, but we'll also see Charr casters and Forgotten warriors, and there would still be a lot of humans of every profession because humans are the only one of the three that's actually attractive.

I think they'd have to have race-exclusive classes to make some more appealing than others, along with unique race statistics. Not much else I can add there besides wowwie, a Charr warrior in Obsidian would rawk my world.

10 classes, with 10 possible secondaries (you can choose a nil secondary as an option). Just had to fix that

Yeah massive data = massive haywire.
I was thinking about armour. In NF core and NF profession got 6 while Faction got 2 set. = [2x(8x6)]+[2x(2x2)] = 104 armour art have to be done.
If All of the 4 races have a separate armour set for each profession there could be over 400 armour arts have to be done.
Imagine workload for the Arts team.Unless those races counted as profession.

Aren't there already skills that exist with in the game that effects different types of creature classes?
[card]Edge of Extinction[/card] This one comes to mind. I am sure there are others that do damage to "creatures of the same type". A team of all Charr would not be affected at all by this skill if they used it but the opposing human team would.
So I think adding different races will affect the balancing of the game.

Wait 10?! I thought there was only Warrior, Ranger, Mesmer, Monk, Elementalist, Necromancer, Assasin, and Ritualist. This is odd. Oh yea Nightfall, oh yea.. the slots that hold my dyes and weapon upgrades... yea Nightfall didn't bring any new classes...
