Poll: Should GW1 characters be able to cross over to the GW2?
Here is the reason i posted the poll. There is a huge thread about a "fresh" guildwars. Regardless of the truth or fiction behind that website the thread does raise a very good question. Should we be allowed to bring over our old toons..If and or When there is a second guildwars. As in one that breaks from the current storyline. thanks for voting.

No - GW2 should mean new game, not just expansion pack. Fresh start needed.

I agree...I personally would look forward to a fresh start, where everyone starts the game at a level playing-field.
I will enjoy my current GW characters until then, obviously...

No I prefer a new start, but they better give GW1 one hell of a finale
With the current storyline things will never change much, but with a new one things are bound to get way better.

ABSOLUTELY NO
Gw2 is a new game. Fresh start. Everyone, i repeat, everyone, at the same level. Don't care about my armors, weapons... They are pixels and i've enjoyed this game till now. No need to bring all my things upon Gw2

This is a rather tricky issue. On one side I understand that from a lore stand point, importing characters might not make sence. Also, I get the idea that a fresh start is kinda neat. However, I would personally feel rather upset that all my accomplishments in GW1 were all for naught. Of course, I realize that due to the fact that we were just playing a game those accomplishments don't really matter anyway, but this news about GW2 really makes me think about whether many players (including myself) put too much time and effort into Guild Wars. What good was it to work on those titles or that fancy armor if it's all gonna go away in the end? Even if GW2 allows importing, this whole issue just makes me wonder that maybe we're just wasting our time.

I voted for a fresh start, but if you can keep the Lastname that would be nice.

It's a new game.
Doesn't matter how much you're attached to your characters and your accomplishments, they aren't supposed to transfer from one game to the other. I quit GW and I picked up WoW, but as much as I want to /tiger people, I can't do that. I can't /tiger people IRL either. Why? Because GW is seperate from either of those and what you attained in GW will not follow you around for the rest of your life.

everythings all for naught eventually.
However I personally don't see a reason for a Guild Wars 2 anyhow. Guild Wars has shown itself to be fairly robust in accepting upgrades. From what I can see Nightfall has been a commercial success, showing that episodic concept works.
I just don't feel something that is constantly evolving actually has a need for a number two slapped onto it. Maybe if it was to try something truly revolutionary If that was the case then I'd say no to character cross overs.
However unless its really really going to differ from Guild Wars, why bother? And if it's that different why call it Guild Wars 2?
Rambling over. I answered the question... kinda.

I took the last choice.
Based on the game we have now and the level of interaction ArenaNet has with GW fans, I will be interested in any new RPG-style game ArenaNet puts out, with or without my current characters.
For the first time since paper D&D, I am a game company fan.

Guild Wars II should let you have the 'Option' of being able to bring over any existing characters from Guild Wars.
I dont mind if they reduce your XP level, take away armour, weapons, gold etc, as long as the basic character can 'come across'.
On that note, Neverwinter Nights and NWN 2 let you 'import' your original characters across as do a few other games. I think in NWN 2, they reduced your XP level slightly to balance your entry into the game. All your gold, armour and weapons 'disappeared' (stolen whilst asleep if i remember correctly) until later in the story when you 're-found' them at the approriate XP level and area of the game. This could easily be done by some sort of quest (See already a quest devised for GW2).
I like my characters and have invested a lot of time in them, not including the next 2 year's worth of Guild Wars. I would hate to throw them on the 'scrap heap' after 4/5 years.
By allowing us the option of importing 'old characters', ANET would at least ensure a core player-base, reward its loyal players and reduce the 'rage-quit and whinge' factor.
Another thing to consider is:- If ANET 'announces' soon that in 2 years time Guild Wars will be replaced by Guild Wars 2 and the above character importation is 'not allowed', I can see a lot of Loyal Players 'jumping ship', because to carry on might be considered as 'pointless' and that they may as well go and play 'another game'.
PS: One other thing people may have not considered is the possible 'break up of the Guilds'. Not ALL Guild Members will buy GW2.

My main concern is if GW1 will end up being trashed when and if GW2 is released. I have spent a lot of money on all the chapters and character slots and would feel disappointed if GW1 was left to the wayside with the new game.
If that was the case, then i'd definately want to be able to port my characters (but have their title set to zero, as they would mean nothing).
If that wasnt the case and you could still play GW1, then i dont think i'd mind that much if you had to play new characters.
