Some aspects of WoW simply wouldnt work or have no real use in GWs.
Mounts for instance. -We can instantly move from one town to the other at a click of a button, we have no need for them. Aution House - We have a perfectly effective trading system now, but no one uses it. We dont need an AH. Professions(i.e fishing, skinng) - We dont need it. The use of silver and copper - Our use of gold is fine. Increased level cap - I personally see no reason against it, but we dont need it. Jumping - you dont need, and Ive hardly used it in WoW anyway Ability to walk off sides of cliffs - why? its actually annoying at times in WoW Being able to swim and enter deep water - again not something we need.
I agree about mounts, they would be superfluous as well as possibly problematic when it comes to combat. Concerning jumping and falling off mountains, I think these things are best left out of Guild Wars because they would add greatly to the server overhead and lag.
Player professions are largely unnecessary but enhancing the player trade economy is a must. I could see a fishing mini-game though.
I disagree about an Auction House, though. The trade capability that was added is a great step, but the lack of an auction house function for the placement of items for sale to other players is contributing to the trade spam situation. I have nothing against trade and I think the in-game economy adds to the depth of play, but 90% of all interplayer outpost chat is dedicated to trade, this drowns out nearly everything else.
An Auction House won't make it all go away, but it would reduce it significantly. Additionally, being able to shift-click item tooltip info into the trade or whisper chat line would be another way to reduce trade spam.
IMHO, mounts would be great in Guild Wars. Although I do not advocate adapting its combat system, Mount & Blade shows what is possible with mounts as far as animation, use and mobility, but only with horses. In Guild Wars, I envision mounts having varying combinations of speed, power, resistance and height (the latter being an issue for archers and, perhaps, command and spear chucking). The promised new pet controls could be used for mounts when they are not being ridden. Balance issues would be the same as with pets. Actually, mounts could be considered to be rideable pets (beastmastery buff, lol). Or they could be an attribute line within another profession, along with lances. Or they could be rideable heros, with armor and weapons of their own.

I would love a griffin. Personally I would spread madness with my strafing powers of the flare and my dive bombing runs with mass immolation, i'm pretty sure its people like that stop the producers from putting in pets. But when they come be ready Muahahahahahaha

Races would be cool because of choice, really. I like choices. And Charrs make bad-ass warriors.
And I was gonna say alternate starting zone for each race, but I think it would be cooler for an alternate starting zone for each profession, i.e. Warriors in a military hall and monks in a chapel.
Yupper,
I'm not at all against change or new trinkets/toys/choices. Just pointing out the flawed logic. Change is in fact the one and *only* universal truth .
Point is, mounts: don't need em (just like minis) but that certainly doesn't mean they can't be succesfully integrated into GW and be fun and cool.
I would love to see combat mounts in the world of Guild Wars. What most people fail to consider is that horses and other mounts were used extensively in wars both real and fantasy to gain an advantage against opponents and this is Guild Wars after all. Also, people play RPG's to get stronger, smarter, and faster. Forget about your own preference for a minute and think about your character. Wouldn't your character want a mount?
The main reason we probably don't have combat mounts yet in Guild Wars is it would be something very difficult to add. Mounts in other games such as WoW have been poorly implemented. Sure they make travelling faster in games such as WoW, but they can't be used in combat, and in GW we can already teleport from zone to zone. Heck, there already are non-player controlled mounts in the world of Guild Wars. It's only a matter of time before players are able to control mounts too. If you're seriously opposed to any form of animal mounts you probably should have realized this and quit GW a looong time ago. Eventually it will happen.

How are you comparing this, I think fishing and such would work really well in guild wars PvE.

But then other aspects would be good and could be effective.
Non-human playable characters - long over due.
Droppable armor which we can wear - no reason we cant.
I think cosmetics goes 2nd to gameplay personally.
For people who don't want different races...
What if we could have different body types and stances for our characters?
Would that be so bad. To have a badass elementalist using the same creepy stance a necro uses. Or have a slim, althletic warrior?
I think it would be cool. It would give our characters more personality. And it's really not that far from having different races just for a cosmetic effect.
I absolutely wholeheartedly agree with this comment. (And the 'slim, athletic warrior' would have won me over if I hadn't already agreed! Oooh, what I wouldn't do for one of those...)
Personally, okay, I probably wouldn't play another race, for the same reason I don't play male warriors or male monks... fugly. But that's no reason to deny other people the option to choose.
I'm ALL for more choices, especially in character creation.
And I agree with the OP too - I was in Kamadan the other day when Gaile was hanging about, and one poor guy was asking, "Any news on whether there will be other races?" (a valid question, I thought, considering recent rumours, however unfounded they might be) and some guy was spamming in response: "NO NEW RACES - THIS ISN'T WOW!!"
...Since when was WoW the only game with other races?
And since when is the concept of having other playable races so vastly different from having other races as NPCs? I don't remember there being outrage over Talon's addition to the henchie line up, and I seem to remember people rather liking the idea of Zhed when the first hero pics were released...
GW already has these races - it's not going to change the game world if they become playable. And whilst I completely understand (and to an extent share in) concerns about the nature of 'new' races (Asura, etc), why can't we just sit back and see how things go?
I trust ANet. They've brought us a brilliant game so far.
Location: Guild Hall, Vent, Guesting, PvE, or the occasional HA match...
Guild: Dark Alley [dR]
simple answer to why other things arent included into GW that other games have... GW wants their game to be different. Mounts are irrelevant due to the instant map travel. there is no areas in which you need to fish or skin animals for materials as you can just salvage items for them or buy them. there is no need for you to be able to swim in deep water because there is nothing that is done in any amounts of water that you cant walk through and stop being so lazy that you have to take an extra minute to walk around it. the level cap doesnt need to be increased for one reason. GW was ment to be about skill, not grind or items. this is partially what sets it apart from other online games. This game is easy enough, why on earth do you need to make it easier by making your character a higher level and keep everythign else the same?
The only thing GW would need is some type of better trading system, as the current ingame one is a mess and has been from the start.
other than that if GW was to introduce the same features as other games, i woudl rather play those games due to more complexity than gw has. GW was ment to be simple and easy to enjoy, unlike the grindfest of other games.
In literal terms you are right, that having or not having these things will not put Guild Wars out of business or make it double the success it is, but I do believe however that some of these things would help overall with increasing Guild Wars replayability and also making players have more choices while playing. As mmo competition creeps clower (Age of Conan, Lotro, Warhammer etc) one would think progression would be better rather than stagnantity(the state of being stagnant ).
Mounts - This game is not like EQ, where in order to get from say Droknars Forge to Ascalon you have to hoof it. This game has map jumping unlike EQ. Mounts IMO are worthless here.
Playable Races - Why? Again, if I want to play one of 16 different races I'll go back to EQ. I'd rather get w/mo'd by a human then that little asura creature. *Shivers*
PvE only Skills - I say they need to do both PvE Only/PvP only skills. Or have two descriptions for the same skill. One tells you what it will do in PvE, the other, what it does in PvP. As long as the PvE only skills aren't waaaaay overpowered(see Lightbringers gaze), I for one am all for it.

Seeing my warrior or even assassin (in shadows) on a horse is the most kick ass look ever. Now imagine seeing Link in Zelda on his horse as the basis of the look, shield on back and sword in hand. Seems cool no? Regardless if your a fan of it or not - I'm talking about the more known image here.
People just fail to think AT ALL, is the correct way to say it.
Mounts as a Ranger pet seems easy to do, there already are enemies with mounts, why not players? I think it should be ranger only though, keep them as pets.
I think 2 new races (like whatever Talon is and something else) would be cool. Just a skin would/should be easy to implement into the game. As long as the races have no benefit I'm all for it.
