Multiple races - from ANet's history, I think it's more probable that we'll see a few new races, but no more playable than humans. But I wouldn't rule it out - it just might be a bitch and a half to set up. If races are anything more than aesthetic, GW will lose its entire high-level, PvP player base.

how are races useless for pvp? you do understand that if tis a totally new game it will probably fucntion alot diffrently. in mmo's I have played diffrent races generally all have diffrent strenghts/ weaknesses, which would add even more variations on top of classes.

Good. from the sounds of it, you and your friends are the types of counter-strike pwning timmies that are the reason the GW community is so terrible.

"GW:EN" is starting with a current lvl 20 character.
"GW2" has a level cap, but the Inquirer doesn't know the number. You still won't be grinding lvl 70 like WoW, so it probably won't change.

Hell. Why not add a terminator race just for fun. I'd find it more amusing then the Asurian minipet which is supposedly a race upcoming. (Yes, I know, you might say it's not complete, but they'd have to completly revamp it for me to like it. Like, give it 4 legs and call it a dog...)
And 100 years later, From the current GW, in hundreds of years we'll be weilding muskets, maybe even automatic rifles. And the rangers new pets, Cyber dog! the warriors new armor, A real tank! Whoo! Beat me dead and call me a flat waffle!
And eles, Wow. Real nukes FTW? Monks get bacta canisters? God, do I even want to know what necros will get? Animate tank?
Assassins, Hell, Maybe they'd get a shotgun. silencer included.
But, as of now, it's all speculation.
If GW2 has all that stuff I mentioned, I'll consider buying it. It better be damn good. (2 years without my favorite game, I'd go insane!)

What it would do is to f* up thing in comunity.
We all know how people lean to holy trinity type of things.
What if you create, i.e. Charr monk whereas human monk would have better innate mods for being monk.
Yep, what you guess would happen - you will get yelled at for being noob, told to delete char and restart it properly, and most improtantly, group would take non-noob monk (that being monk with correct race). Just like currently group wouldnt accept Resto rt and wait for proper monk.
(it would be exactly what we would see if secondaries werent changeable - player finding out that in group enviroment, his class combination is TABU, not exactly nice thing.)
---
eventually evey class will get specified the ONE and ONLY race deemed to be usefull for that class by comunity. which, makes races kinda pointless as every character created after infromed choice would be of same race.
which, makes races redundat and pointless.
and i an not eve getting started about possible nerf/buff combo that makes human monk obsolete and tengu monk prefered.
also, there is problem that one race/class combo would be good for one thing and other race combo with same class would be good for another ... just like having two necroes - one N/Me for SS, one N/Mo for MM ... yes, leveling that seccond mm would suck, wouldnt it.
---
PvE people could live with ineficient race/class combo - i sure "friendly guilds" would tolerate that.
for PvP people its hell of ballancing (one more huge thing in ballance variable), inability to use PvPE characters anymore (excesive releveling needed after power shifts)
---
basically said, races ARE bad idea. very bad idea indeed.

Adding special bonus abilities/attributes to a race would be kinda imbalanced (if that's the right word I should use), but if they come normal with no special abilities like humans then it would be okay to have playable races. I think people who want playable races just want them for "eye candy" and not boosting up the profession's attributes they choose.

Hope you're not serious on this. The race is only a SKIN. much like comparing a Crystalline sword to a Short sword. they both act in the same way, they just look different. The same thing goes with gender. a male or female warrior or whatever with same armor and stuff both have the same armor and HP levels. Gender and race would only determine the visual aspect of the sets of armor you can buy.

Of course i am serious about this.
You have no idea wheter races would have special modifiers or not, so your nice arguments are pointless as they debunk ... nothing.
I haveno idea too, but i am presenting concern and major pitfall of one approach.

And your arguments and whining are even more pointless because you're just ranting without any basis on fact. Why dont you take a deep breath and calm down?

As they gave Zhed no special/inferior powers, (or razah for that matter) i don't see why they would do it for other races.
Besides, all this GW2 thing isn't even confirmed yet. As I said earlier on, I won't believe this (well, some of the most unlikely since Galie said part of it is true) until Anet themselves say something.

1. prism, this is guidl wars 2 we are talking about, it doesnt need to follow all the rules GW 1 played by, and i hope not, otehrwise there would no reason to call it guild wars 2.
2.zwei thers nothing to get upset about yet, just like the whole inscription thing before nightfall, it wsnt a big deal in the end. And comon, I think anet would have a little more forsite to see that. ive played rpgs where classes only advantages where that they use a couple of skills better. heck maybe their only diffrences are the pve only skills, which wont affect pvp at all

actually, Zhed used to not be considered a Human by game mechanics, and would not get disease spread to him by humans.

Herein lies the issue with the potential introduction of playable races to GW. There are several methods of implementation. One wherein each race has a special aptitude and gains a special bonus to certain abilities or attributes. The other where the race is merely a cosmetic skin where it doesn't affect the stats or ability at all. The fact is, we don't know which system they will use, and we don't even know if they truly are adding playable races.
One could argue that the races will be cosmetic 'cause as it stands, currently different races of enemy npc's don't have any bonus over each other or us(derived from their race anyway..). Another could argue that it will be a whole new game and you cannot assume that on the basis of how the previous game worked and races will likely affect the character's abilities since it's an all new re-worked system.
The fact is, we can't assume either way. All we can actually do is wait for further clarification.
One way they could potentially avoid this mess all together would be if races were restricted to certain professions, and those professions could only be selected by their corresponding race. But we all know the community would be in an uproar about all races having access to all professions......

Personally, I think GW2 is a good idea. You can't do everything with a 2 year old game, with a level cap that is impossible to change, not to mention races and all. I think it's gonna be like a mix of WoW PvE and GW PvP, which sounds like a good mix for me. WoW PvE cause possibly they'll get rid of instance-like area's and all. I hope the skill system and the low amount of players in a single team will remain, though, and some hardcore places will still be instances. No 60-ppl raids, please! oO
Races can be pretty cool, gives the PvP mode a little more depth, for example Charr's may be great rangers and good warriors, dwarves may be excellent warrior's, poor mages and good paragon's, the Forgotten (xD) which may be also given as a playable race, they can be great mages and spellcasters, but weak melee characters. I think.
I hope to see other shit like those auction houses and a better party search that would FORCE ppl to use it in order to group in teams. It's pretty damn hard to get a party using just the party search, even in large cities, not to mention smaller outposts. Selling and buying stuff is still a pain in the butt.
If I think of anything else, I'll write it for sure. ;]
