The way I see it, the level 20 cap allows your character to reach the limit of its abilities, and then it was down to the player, rather than the character.
That's what I enjoyed about the previous GW chapters, both PvP and PvE. It's not about who has been grinding the hardest or longest, but about the skill.

Like many others, I have two main questions that my life hinges upon:
1. What is the nature of the level cap for GW1, as GW:EN introduces. Personally I hope it allows me to venture into DOA, as well as completing all these Realm of Torment quests without pulling my hair out. If it is a raise in cap level where certain things are accumulated (hp/energy, attribute points, something else?), will it be retroactive; ie, will my current xp automatically raise me to the appropriate level?
2. Can we take our GW1 toons into GW2

The one thing that Anet has still not responded to that, in my opinion, will have a strong impact on the success/failure (judging from many of those I have spoken to including most of my guild) is whether characters will import in some fashion from GW 1 to GW2 or not. I think that unless they release some official statement about that, a non-trivial number of players are going to move on before Eye of the North, especially in the wake of several major MMPOG releases coming over the next few months.

I don't care if it's 20 or 100...
the low level cap made people think this game was short.
if all it take to please them is a high number, bring it on.
Now, Guild Wars Was all about balance, and fun&quick-paced missions.
If in guild wars 2, the average player can't compete with they guy who spent his life on it; and if it take 3h straight for each mission, plus 1h grouping, then it wouldn't be GW anymore.

Another problem with high amounts of level caps are equipment requirements. Imagine a level cap of 80. That's a lot of equipment to go through as you level up and the old equipment gets obsolete. It's not like how it is now where you can easily meet the requirement of max weapons because the level cap is low. With higher level caps it means a lot longer to meet requirements of max weapons.
But let's hear what Gaile has to say on all this before going nuts.

ANet has done a great job of making sure that there isno true item grind in GW. They can easily create more opportunities to advance your character past level 20 without making the advancement necessary.
As long as that is how the "increased level cap" is handled, there will be nothing to worry about, PvE or PvP.

Just as a rememberence for the OMG NOES. Gw2 is still 2 years away, thats the same amount of time some of us have been playing again.
If you look at how GW1 was 2 years before release it was massivley different and there is no reason GW2 won't be.
Clean Slating GW is probably the best thing they could do, tho I must admit to a tinge of sadness on reading that at the moment the transfer of characters wont be possible.
Still 2 years is a LOOONG time..

Are you kidding me? The strength of GW is that it IS accessible, waaaaaay more than standard MMO games. Most of those are just way too bulky and time consuming to be accessible.

The only thing I don't really like from Guild Wars 2 is the increased level-cap. The low level cap made Guild Wars unique and a quite relaxed game. Now I'll probably get addicted to levelling my characters so much I won't have time to do any other things.<___<

were there any pics in the article? If someone could post a few that would be great.
As for the level cap, I think it could be really interesting and beneficial for GW. GW has become a game of tweaking, I mean think about it, someone will pay tons of money over a 15>50 mod while they will only pay a meager sum for a 14>50 mod. Just that one percent makes all the difference. I think that with the different lvl cap it will provide a lot more diversity and ease of finding a niche for the beginners. But that's just my opinion, should be fun to see what ANET has planned.
My only hope is that they continue with their great graphics. GW easily has the best graphics of all the MMOs out there, and that's what makes it enjoyable for me.

Love the article and the concepts.
For those claiming that GW2 cannot be "as good" as WoW, there are two distinct advantages GW2 would have:
1. Superior graphics, hands down.
2. No monthly fee.
Those two, if GW2 is implemented correctly, should drive WoW players in droves to the Guild Wars franchise.

Gaile said there would be UAX for the guild battle like gameplay, so you shouldn't have any problems.
Personally, I'm very happy with the news. GW:EN sounds like a great wrapping up of the Guild Wars trilogy, and GW2 sounds like an amazing new evolution for GW game play. I've really enjoyed GW, but I think it is time for some changes. I look forward to increased level cap and non-instanced areas.
I'll be sure to get both GW:EN and GW2 as soon as they come out!

That makes absolutely no sense what-so-ever! Why would levels be just for show? If that were true, then whats the incentive to level past 20 if a lvl 100 character is no better than just a number saying your lvl 100? It doesnt make sense to remove a level cap, then only have the higher levels for all show and no go.

The level 20 cap was one of the top 10 reasons I enjoyed GW. I enjoyed being able to level quickly, if I so chose, so I could move on to the higher end content. Leveling in a game is not what is fun to me, so I'm pretty disappointed about the higher level cap of PvE.
I don't really care about any of the other things. None of it seemed terribly exciting to me, but it also didn't seem terrible either. I'm thinking GW2 won't be for me.

I'm sorry if your biggest enjoyment from a game is grinding for more items. I personally enjoy developing my character and watching him get stronger. Learning my limits and finding a world open up for me as I progress. Guild Wars basically took the worst part of every MMORPG (item grinding), and made it the basis for PvE. The worst part was that the rarest items were no different then the blue items you get from collectors. It was all about showing off pretty skins and it was hollow and boring.
I am sorry if you only concern is reaching the level cap. I am fine, being the lower then other players and enjoy my leveling experience. I don't consider it a grind because I am not racing toward the cap.
As long as they add enough content for everyone and not just the higher end players I'll be fine.

I think a lot of people have seen the increased level cap as a threat, but as a few people earlier have said, it could be quite superficial. That is to say, its the equivalent of a tormented item, it looks good but overall is no better than a cheapy green you can get for 5k

To all you QQing about the level cap problem, you need to understand that you are not playing a version of WoW with no monthly fees.
The point of this game is not to kill 10 million rats to get max level, you are supposed to get max lvel while you are learning to play the game, and be able to play content balanced around a standard level. The point of the game is not so level 200 mending Wammos can own the noob runner level 20 kiting monks with one hit.

GW2 will 99% have a monthy fee, although the article doesn't state it. The current Guild Wars is primarily instanced, which dramatically reduces bandwidth, and thus overall cost. With a consistant world, those advantages dissappear, and thus a monthly fee will be needed.
GW:EotN...I'm not too excited. Still do not like the new races ( now can we make topics about them, Mods?)
