I really don't see how having a higher level cap equates to "grinding." Seriously -- I've played games with caps, without caps, with caps that the devs raised over the years, and everything in between.
As a gamer, I think I sort of like the ability to get higher numbers, even if it only shows my investment, my time spent in the game. Now, surely it's true that someone may have lots of lower-level characters, and that player may have achieved more and know more about the game than a player with a single high-level character. It's not, in my opinion, anything like, "My level 50 is 'better' than your level 20." Or, "I'm all that because I was the first to reach Level X."
I just sort of like that feeling of having been around for a while, or "veterancy." It sort of ties in with how much I like the Divine Aura, and the birthday presents, and the first year's Halloween items and with the fact they're only owned by those of us who were here, 'way back then. Each of those things seem to show a history, and for some, that's a very cool thing.

"Level" is relative in MMOs. Even if the level cap is 100 or so, you could probably hit lv. 10 in an hour or less. Factions is a good example in action. (example: in WoW, a player can typically hit lv. 10 in 3 hours, but the level cap of that game is 70.)

Did I imagine it saying GW1 characters could carry over? 'Cause I thought I just read that, but when I reread the first page I couldn't find it anywhere.....

Time will tell. Also i gotta get the PCGAMER so i can understand there stuff better.

I didn't think it would make much sense to move characters from a 5 year old game [which GWs will be by release of GW2]to a new an improved and most likely completely different game.
But with your track record for predictions I think it's a gimme now that you will be able to do this

Great news!! I don't know why people are so worried about the level cap being raised. It'll be harder than ever to level up. Think about it. Even fighting all lv20 or higher foes it takes an hour or two of constant grind to gain 1 level and you have to gain the same amount of experience to get to 20 every time. If the leveling is the same in GW2 it could take weeks to gain a level once you pass the 50's. It would be nice if we could get retroactive levels. People who played from the beginning would be in the 50's at least! *lol* I suddenly have a picture of a level 55 55 Monk. The cute bunheaded kind. :P

I am fan of Gw but i have two questions for ppl on the forum but especally Gaile:
1. When i first heard about Gw2 my first in my mind question was:''Can we transfer our Gw1 chars to Gw2?'' Every day i am expecting this info from mag posted on forum. I live in Croatia and i can't buy those UK magazines. So pls Gaile ask your partners if we can transfer our chars. And i read one post here somewhere about that we will can show our titles, minies but no stuff. I read that so don't answer me with that post
2. I have let's say, a little old computer. I am worryied about what Requirements will be needed. I know that this year i will buy a new computer, but in 2 years there will be new processors with X.Ghz and X Gb RAM and i don't need to question graphics
P.S.sorry for any gramatical mistake
|
Nope.
In 2 years, Hell yeah. For ultimate performance anyway.
Grammar isn't TOO bad my guildie, but spelling is a little atrocious. I fixed some errors in my edition. It's a little easier read.
Ms. Gray, Are you saying the level cap is cosmetic? if so, Why not just make it a title? people will likely not want to do anything with a level 20, but would do anything with a level 100, even if the difference is cosmetic. All I see coming is discrimination.

I'm going to have to stop you there, Ms Gray. Some of us enjoy the fact that you've managed the level cap, you've reached max stats - the pressure of getting to the top is gone, and you can play the game at your own leisurely pace - which is why I love Guild Wars. But when you set the bar so high, you can get that immense feeling of unaccomplishment every time you log off without achieving that best.
To sum it up, as long as I know that the level cap is still there, it's going to bother me.

The only sad part of this news is the delay on getting my hands on GW:EN and GW2.
I seriously could not be more pleased with this info unless purchase of the game somehow came with free pizza for life.

Thanks for killing Guild War's PvP. I thought PvP was the reason why GW was so famous?

Sounds like the level thing will be purely cosmetic. I don't see the problem with leveling further if it doesn't give you any actual advantages, and they've already said GvG will remain the same, all players will remain on an even playing field, nobody will have an unfair "grind advantage".

So far I have heard nothing but good things from you guys at Anet..I am really overjoyed that from what I'm hearing guild wars PvE will live up to its true potential..Anet I congratulate you heartily, even though it seemingly took you guys a while to come to your senses

Will our character names be able to transfer over to Guild Wars 2? The last thing I want is for all my favorite character names to be stolen (it's bad enough that I can't bring them over).

Well I think it would great sense. Anet seems to have a thing with commitement-Bday items, titles, the new GvG system, maintaining the divine aura......seems it would be sorta out of the blue, and unexpected, if they changed their ways.

first of all i am known here as a Gaile/Anet fanboi defender.
it looks like the enquirer hit the nail on all the IMPORTANT points.
Gaile said some was wrong and quite a bit misleading.
if the important points are correct i think it is misleading to give the impression that most was not correct.
no fee??????????........i will wait and see......with a big grain of salt........sorry Gaile
