Bingo. Exactly! Kudos to you, for such an astute observation as to how this character does not fit in Guild Wars.
I altered his quote slightly, I edited out his veiled cussing.
To add insult to injury, I'll quote Meat Axe, a vociferous defender of the thing.

Like the GEICO Commercials say, you cannot speak for me. I am the one arguing in other threads to change the game for the better, and you are one of the many detractors who say "change is bad mmmmmkay cause its ok the way it is now", so this really tickles me pink, and I will quote you on this every time we cross paths again about changing the game. Really.
A much more accurate and all-around better way to phrase your statement would be to say:
"..this concept creature may suffer the same fate as Jar-Jar Binks, who also was introduced with the best of intentions and is also masterfully drawn and animated, but is intended for a target audience incompatible with the majority of viewers who were/are adult and expected an adult set of characters in an adult set of situations."
Of course we do not expect a cutesy critter. When I am playing a Necromancer raising the dead and slaying liches and gods, it kind of breaks the immersion to see something from Nikelodeon, mmmmmmmkay?
Thx!

I like it.
And people need to stop thinking they speak for the entire playerbase. (directed at this thread at a whole, no individuals).
Change can be good or bad.
Let's wait and see.

1 - That minipet looks terrible.
2 - Wont guild wars 2 make guild wars 1 totally obselete? seeing that you probably cant transfer your characters or weapons over.
if so that means the effort ppl are putting into guild wars 1 is kinda pointless isnt it? seems that way to me anyway.

Geezus and people are STILL whining about the minipet. And I see some of them have posted more than a few times complaining about it. Don't like it? That's fine. But why keep coming back to whine over and over about it?

And even though we have thousands of necromancers who look like 15 year old little girls, a silly little creature is too cute for us. None of our characters should be looking the way they are, if they are running around killing hordes of demons and conquering gods.
Its a fantasy game, there are no rules about what can or cannot appear in a fantasy game, and there certainly aren't any rules about how cute a character in the game can be.
Does it break the immersion for you to see tiny naked monks with dragon masks on running into battle? Why aren't you protesting about all the cute masks we get for holidays? Or the candy cane weapons? Kind of breaks the immersion to be fighting with a large chunk of candy doesn't it?
There really aren't any valid reasons for this creature to not be in Guild Wars.
Cute certainly isn't one of them.

Wow, I apparently have a stalker. I don't know whether to be flattered or unplug my internet and make sure never to go near any windows again.
Basically, what you're saying is that since I disagreed with some of the ridiculous ideas posted on here, I am scared of change? So why would I go out and buy all the games if I wanted them to stay the same as when the first one was released? I admit that I do disagree with a lot of the suggestions on this forum, but not because I'm scared of change, but because I'm scared of the game becoming a joke.
I'm assuming that you noticed my posts in that discussion about how to make it easier to play through the games with more than a couple of characters. Now, if you had of read some of my posts properly, one of the last ones I made was a suggestion that was a compromise. I would quote it, but I really can't be bothered finding it.
I'm also surprised you didn't quote wikipedia at me, since that seems to be your specialty.
Now, back on topic, I don't see how this creature wouldn't fit into the game. We have bird creatures (Tengu), feline creatures (Charr), and now we're getting a marsupial creature (Asura). Also, it obviously dwells underground, and this creature has all the characteristics of underground-dwellers from real life (primarily I'm thinking of bat ears and eyes of some nocturnal creature). These features added together do look cutesy. But that doesn't mean it doesn't belong to the GW world. It's from a different part of the world, so of course it's going to look different.
Also, we already have a lot of cutesy things in the game. Elf tonics anyone? I didn't see anyone saying that the addition of those were going to lead to the end of world. What about Moa birds? They remind me of Chocobos from FF, only without the annoying music. Those are pretty cutesy... until they start pecking your eyes out, anyway. I guess we need to remove Oink, and the pre searing rabbit, and that quest with the rabbits from the start of Factions. Because all of those are too cutesy for the game, apparently. Apparently, all we want in the game is big monsters that we can kill, and the more traditional races. The dwarves can stay, because they're traditional, but I want those Charr out! They're too original to be in a fantasy game.
Oh, and don't forget about Norgu. His antics don't belong in this game. He's too jolly, so get him out!
The main reason I like this little guy is because he isn't traditional. I mean, they could have added Halflings in instead, but in my mind they're just as cutesy, but more overused.
But despite all this, people are still gonna argue. There's no stopping that with reasoning. People have different opinions, and I respect that. So here's the deal: If you don't like the little critter, don't get one. It's as simple as that. Don't argue that this should be removed from the game, because some people do actually like it. You have to compromise. You can't have everything your way, because then you'd be the only one playing the game.

Just go to the Floating Mosque topic and look at the links showing the Anet artists concept works. That's not cartoony at all. They all love very detailed and realistic looking fantasy imagery. I imagine the cartooness of the creature was a huge diversion from what they normally like doing.
There's no way the artists at Anet would want to go the cartoony route over all the incredibly cool concepts they've sketched.

I'm really not against the little guy, I kind of like him, but I still understand why this thread continues to be a hot debate.
Two things about "cute"...
Firstly, we (all nationalities) have a subculture of "anti-cute". You can see it on these forums quite clearly, as most of the loudest opponents of the Asura have forum names reminiscent of crying angels, dark, goth-y avatars, and characters that are Necros, Assassins, or some combination of the two. Regardless of what you think about this subculture, it is very prevalent in online communities, including GW, and so it shouldn't come as a big surprise to anyone that a large percentage of gamers are going to HATE anything "cute".
Secondly, cute is like love; you can't force it. If you try, it's just hideous.
As has been pointed out, there are a lot of things already in GW that are cute. On my personal list of adorable GW creatures are Moas, Rotwallows, Siege Turtles, Rollerbeetles, and Dolyaks. Note that these things never tried to be cute, they just are. Heck, you might even disagree and think they're horrible. Cute is a personal opinion.
We all love Gwen. Gwen is cute. Gwen also showed up at the end of beta and flamed everyone into ash. That's the real reason we love her so much, because of the contrast. Do you think she'd be nearly so well-loved if she did nothing but skip around, sing cute songs, get dizzy and fall down, and giggle?
So, this Asura thing... It just seems, based on the nearly non-existent available evidence, that the little guy is just trying too damned hard.
If he turns out to be a face-eating monster like Gwen, then we might love him. If, instead, he skips around, makes baby noises, and grins sheepishly, people are going to hate him. Why? Because the cuteness will be forced down our throats, not allowed to happen naturally, and nobody likes that.
