Unannounced Race Speculation
Ok guys, I got PC Gamer magazine today, and read the article on GW2. I came to the part were it told about the new races in GW2. I was surprised to see that Tengu were not on the list, as they are an orrigional race in GW and if your going to be able to play as the Charr, why not as the Tengu?
Well, then I noticed above were it talked about the new Races, It said those 4 were only a few of the playable Races in GW2.
So, do you think Tengu will be a playable Race in GW2? What other Races do you think will also be playable? What about Centaurs? Your thoughts on this?

I think the Tengu would have been an interesting choice (and still might be for future expansions/etc), but introducing new races and fleshing out existing ones might mean that adding something like Tengu to the mix could be too grand a challenge.

I was surprised as well.... ever since I started thinking of playable races (right after factions launch) I started thinking of playing as a Tengu. Then when we got to pal around with Zhed I thought "oh cool, maybe we could play as centaurs eventually too". Since the models already exist it wouldn't be too hard ot make these playable.

I believe that Tengu would be a great race to play they are so verstile. In game they play all kinds of difrent rolls, well atleast core profesions goes.Plus if you look in the mag Tyra looks alittle more modern and it said the the humans was worried about becoming extict,or something in those lines.I like playing humans, and there are plenty of difrent races of humans to play.
I really don't think I am that interested in playing races. When I play a human,I conect with the storie like I am fight for our very exsitance in a world where strange creatures lurk in ever corner of our land. Some who we have come to live side by side with, others whom wish us harm.
Plus I want the human race to rule Guild Wars .muwahhh

In other interviews/articles, ANet has said the the Norn, Asura and Sylvari will be among the playable races in GW2. They seem to be planning on having others, so who knows what the choices will be.
The named ones are those that will be newly discovered in GW:EN, guildwiki.org states that we will see the birth of the Sylvari race in the expansion.

The only friendly Tengu throughout the entire GW World were the Tengo of the Aerie on Shing Jea Island. There are about 10 Tengu there.
100 years later...the Tengu probably died of inbreeding.

There's also friendly Tengu in Xaquang Skyway.
In comparison, there's only two friendly Charr in the entirety of all three chapters, and they'll be playable.

Broadened the scope of the thread in the title, as the bulk of the rest of the threads regarding playable races in the future are about the specifically known ones, and one thread each for speculation on any given race seems a bit excessive. As it is, I think this may fill a unique niche not covered by prior threads. Perhaps not, but search isn't helping much at the moment.
That being said, it seems likely that Tengu would be a playable race in the future; The majority of them being friendly or not can't play into it. I have yet to meet many friendly Charr <_<

We need to step back and observe all the races of the game, and go "Well, there are several varieties here. They played this role and all have this in common.". After doing that, we will knock out most races and be left with a handful.
Now, I will say and have said and will continue to say that races like the Margonites, The Forgotten and Mursaat will not be playable (well, at least right off the starting screen ). We will and should call them "Elite Races" for the time being.
Dwarves being playable, along with Tengu and Centaurs is plausible due to our relations with them spanning the three campaigns. We played with, and against them. We seen several types of each, both professions and races inside the races. We seen different organizations inside the races (Deldrimor Dwarves, Summit Dwarves) also in the process.
I know, Dwarves are always being used. But, they are one race of creatures (besides Gnomes...) I won't mind seeing played due to ANET's way of taking them out of the "We just mine, grow beards and grunt" way. I mean come on, even in Forgotten Realms, Dwarves aren't very spellcasting-like creatures. Here, in the world of Tyria, they are.
Centaurs and Tengu follow much of what I said above. Centaurs are often used, but are more often portrayed as just warriors and look like menhorse. Here, we saw a few different races of Centaurs. And Tengu? Who ever heard of a Tengu before they started playing Guildwars? If your not from Asia, read much Asian stories/mythology, odds are you never knew of them before now.
So, right there I would say we have for sure but unannounced: The Dwarves, The Tengu and The Centaurs.
Now, who wants to start figuring out and begin the great debate on who the possibility of the "other" races are? So far we have the five confirmed, with the high possibility of the Three I have listed.

Tengu would be great.
Dredge could be playable, but that's a stretch.

Yeah, and the Charr are great buddies of the humans.
I think the Tengu would be a great option.

I understand what your saying, but I cant agree with you. Firstly, Factions was not based completely around the Tengu, so they couldn't spend much time developing them. Those also wern't the only Tengu in the game, There are some hostile in the shiverpeaks, hostile and freindly (and some that our Weh no Su) in Cantha, and supposedly some in Elona. Even if only the Hostile Tengu survive 102 years, the article still says that Races must unite together.

I dont know about Dwarves. They are far to widly used, and GW likes to stick to its own origionality and Dwarves are already used by WoW. We also cant forget Undead, Imps, Ettins, Skales?, Who all are also already in the game if we involve Dwarves. I think Tengu, Centaurs, Skales (which I think would add an interesting mix to the game), and maybe undead, along with the current races. Maybe add more in upcoming games afterward. The possibilities are endless.

I think Wardens would make a good playable race. Other than that I hope the unannounced new races are something we haven't seen before.

I would be extremely disappointed if Tengu and Centaurs were not playable races.
I would really like to see Dredge and Wardens as well. Margonites and Forgotten would be nice to see in the future also... Possibly in later expansions?
Mursaat, I wasn't extremely impressed with, and I couldn't care any less about Dwarves.

I love the Tengu. I specifically bring Talon along when I'm goofing off in factions (was capping some rit skills tonight) because the grunting freaks my 6 year old daughter out. She thinks it's spooky.
