As much as I am the person that says, well we r getting a gift no use in complaining, I can't help but agree with you. Especially in the sense that on our 2 year, I'm not expecting a white minipet worth 10k. I don't want to sound greedy, which I obviously am sounding, but don't we deserve more? 2 Years, and people who have been here for 1 year are getting a bone dragon, while I get a heket. ???

The perfect birthday gift
with every year your character ages you get
For the male character
a 5% chance to lose your hair (maybe attach it to the lucky unlucky titles)
a 5% chance to get a beer belly ( attached to drunkard title of course)
a 5% chance to move 5% slower (attached to sweet tooth title maybe)
For the female character
a 5% chance to get wrinkles on your face (Lucky/unlucky)
a 5% chance to get celulite and tummy rolls (sweet tooth/Drunkard)
a 5% chance to move 5% slower (sweet tooth)
Over all for both
a 5% chance to break a bone if knocked down (takes longer to get up)
a 5% chance to forget where you are going (randomly switches quests in log so arrow changes)
a 5 % chance to become exhausted in regular play which can be cancelled out by using the /catchbreath emote
all of which can be connected to an "Old Fart" Title track

Well for people like me who do not like minipets we can easily sell them with the trade improvement we had since last year.
Oh wait...

The main reason everyone is complaining is because they didn't get a 'l33t' Gwen mini which will sell for 100k+many ectos or a lich or something, but if they did they would be the ones saying 'we should be thankful we get given presents at all'.
So pretty much this argument is going to go on indefinetly, so every1 should stop whining now

sry but I have to respond to this.
Why do you deserve more then some1 who plays gw for 1 year?
On the other hand I do agree that the way they give you the present is stupid imo. I've already said this,
BUT why not just give the player an option to choose a mini-pet for their birthday and make all the mini-pets equals.
Why do they make green/gold/purple/white... I like my mini-pets, I collect all of them and keep my mini-pets but it is not fair to give someone a mini-pet thats more worth then someone else his mini.
If you give the option to choose your own mini-pet EVERYONE is happy. The ones who want a mini-pet can choose wich one they like the most and ppl who hate mini-pets can choose the mini that is worth more.
But no
anyways, I like mini-pets thats not the issue, I just think that for a birthday present you could try to give everyone an equal size of present.
oh well, Happy birthday to all the ppl who are here from the very beginning

Oldest character is only 7 months old. I still have a long time to wait for any of these new ones. *sighs*
I can already tell the mini Gwen is going to sell for ridiculous, exuberant prices...

They chose too reward the players who have been loyal Guild Wars players and I am personally thankful they even took the time out of their schedule to thank their player base. What other gaming companies have done this and given their players something for their character being a year or 2 years old? Be grateful you even got anything for your character.

Read carefully the bolded phrases you just wrote to understand why we keep saying they are not FREE but tools to keep people being interested in the game and probably buying their future products.

Mini-pets are, IMO, just a cool thing that Anet did not have to do.
And by complaining about it, you risk Anet thinking "Well, seems like nobody likes their gifts. Guess next year, we won't give out anything."
That's what I'm worried about: I like mini-pets, and I don't want to see a bunch of complainers ruin it for the rest of us.
|
You may say Greens have no effect in the game too because you can find equivalent items from collectors. FOW armors too have no real effects in the game other than Cool things that look differently and are more difficult to acquire. Cool things are what make people stayed in the game and comptemlating about buying future products. If Arenanet make these Cool Things disliked by most people, sales will surely go down. So these Cool Things are not just there for FREE.
Since many people want minis as birthday's gifts, some want other options. Why not make everyone happy by giving more alternatives to people? Some will get minis, some will get Auras, some will get special weapons,...???

People in my guild are saying that the problem with the pets this year is that they dont look like pets.
All but the Windrider, thorn wolf, and madragor (and debateadly the AAatxe) are humanoid, walking upright with 2 legs and human characteristics or outright humans.
Where are the pets that look like pets?
Guild wars has plenty of pets that look like pets that they could have chosen the lion-like roaring ethers, or the walking plant ibogas, the fow cave spiders or spider-like smites or terrorwebs, factions' various mantid/kappa/vermin/plants/sea creatures..
I think they did a better job with the first year selection of pets, and gave a lot of the other good choices for pets away in asian promotions.
As for Gwen, she's in the next game so giving her as the prestige minipet makes sense, but I just dont see the appeal. Nobody who didnt play in the beta, least of all people who started last year with factions really cares about Gwen. She's entirely a message board phenomenon.

Did you pay for the mini pet? No? Then it's free.
Whether they're doing it out of the kindness of their heart or in order to attempt to keep people interested is moot. They did not ask for a fee in order for you to recieve the item.

And we did buy the game, too.
*sigh* I think I was the only person anywhere who wanted a birthday hat as a present. Maybe with my initials on it, it would make me feel special (in a good way, not in a way that extends my e-peen).

Because, even though these are FREE to us, they are NOT free to the developers. I have no idea if it's harder to make mini-replicas of models that already exist, or to create Auras for all the armors and player models currently in existance. But, the fact they didn't make Auras either means: it's not viable, or they figured that people flashing Auras would even be more annoying than people flashing e-motes...
As for Weapons: how would that even work? How could you make weapons that appeal to every single player in the game? Answer: You can't.
Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. There are bigger issues to worry about in Guild Wars than mini-pets!

Unless you're referring to a Thread I haven't read, Gaile specifically said NOT to assume we would get anything. (in fact, she says specifically that many suggestions were just not viable.) She was as vague as possible, for exactly the reason if she said anything, people would jump down her throat and call out "LIAR!!!"

Again, I think this is an example of an unreasonable request. You want Anet to eventually put out a Hat with over 3 million unique initials on it? As for a generic party hat, I expect we'll get some sort of collectible hat this weekend, unless I totally misread guildwars.com

So you assume all the Auras would be exactly the same? I guess that does make the argument easier. Mini pets are mini pets. The whole point of people suggesting something different is because people are sick of mini pets.

This has been quoted twice here already but:

The initial casual question was not intended to say, "The Second Birthday Present will be miniatures." We have only asked what miniatures would be desired if we do offer those as the b'day gift or -- consider this! -- if we add more minis for other purposes.
