As pointed out, those polls are misleading as there is no real consensus of what to replace mini's with. In one poll, "Auras" led with 20% (Mini's had like 10% in comparison), but what the heck is an "aura"? A boss Aura? Divine Aura (similar to CE)? A new Aura? Without a real consensus, and with a good chance you're gonna piss people off no matter what, it seems pretty obvious to stick with what works: Mini pets.

If you don't like minipets or aren't happy with what you got, sell it and move on with your life. End of story. Or even better, send it straight to the trash bin and pretend ANet didn't do anything for us at all, since that's what a lot of people are claiming they'd rather.

There was a project last year that calculated the approximate rarity of each color, the thread should still be around here somewhere (Community Works, maybe). I'd assume the rarities are the same this year, since there's the same number of each color in each set.

I'm kind of disappointed....the way they made this out to be both Prophecies AND Faction's birthday, I figured Canthan characters turning 1 year old would get a special mini pet as well. I figured instead of having "Year One" and "Year Two" gift boxes, you would just lose the ability to ever be able to get year one's mini pets again or something.

My Canthan necro is very sad, she got a already worthless mini jade armor for her birthday today, and it's worth even less now...

I'm thinking of parting with some of my current minis, in trade for one of the new ones. Varesh and Kuunavang I won't part with... but others I will consider.

Siege Turtle, Hydra, Asura... are any of them worth something to someone? Someone who has a mini Gwen or Palawa? Please?

I would make a poll but what are the chances of it being true to life with only 2 year old character voting?

The colour is basically the guide to how rare it is to get. Of course this doesn't automatically mean it is in demand.

I agree there, I would've loved a mini Cynn! But Aidan/Mhenlo/Devona would have been good too, I honestly can't see what they were thinking with some of these choices. The djinn, aataxe and Gwen are cute but hardly make up for the rest...

I'm a bit disapppointed to see minipets as our 2nd Bday gift.

1. I was hoping for something customized (non-tradable). A second birthday mini has virtually no meaning because it shows that either the owner's char may be 2 years old, or that they are just rich (especially in the case of mini-Gwen). Not very special.

2. As others have said, I find the rarity grouping unfair and pointless. Either let people pick the mini they want, or make them all white. How is someone to feel appreciated when they get the cheapest white (and it's not something they wanted) while others get purple/gold/green?

3. So many good alternatives were suggested for a cutomized gift that would be fun and recognize the player's commitment.

But it's something, which is better than nothing. Thanks for the thought at least, ANet.

[Edit:] And how does Koss get a mini while AFAIK none of the "originals" (Devona, Cynn, Mhenlo, Aidan) get one?

I have absolutely no interest in Koss, Gwen, or Wintersday Elf and the mildest of interests in Palawa Joko. I just dislike the concept of human minis following me around... I like the monster/creature "pet" concept.

I also vote Wintersday Elf as worst minipet ever (lol)! Now I really appreciate my Varesh.

I agree that some of them are rather weak (especially the purples!)... I might not care for Gwen, but I know the majority of the GW fan-base does so I understand that one. The Aatxe is difficult to see due to his colour and the Thorn Wolf is extremely pixilated, but it's all good.

Whether I like them or not, thanks aNet!

I'm sort of neutral to these minis. Mainly because by the time my oldest character is 2 years old(Late August 2008) GW2 will probably be at least in the beta stage and some mini from last year won't mean anything to me.

I'm generally opposed to minis because they don't contribute anything to your gaming experience. You giggle over it for a week and then it rots in storage until you sell it, if you can sell it. If minis had some special ability that actually contributed to gameplay(PvE only) then I'd love them. MTGO(Magic The Gathering Online) allows users to pick various avatars, which is how the player will appear to all the other players, but some avatars are given out as prizes for winning various tournaments. That wouldn't make any difference if there weren't the Vanguard format, where your avatar gives you a special ability you can use during the game. The prize avatars are sought after because they aren't just a window dressing. I'd prefer a functional b-day gift. Something like an Amulet of the Mists you could take to a special NPC and trade in for a special weapon or a randomly selected mini(to make things fair). Doing that would be just as simply as giving everyone a mini except less people would complain.

After 2+ years of Gailespeake, anyone who puts much credence in what she says needs to have their head examined.

Minipets are OK, but the rarity sucks, should have just been a gift certificate to go to the pet store and pick out what we wanted. Or cash, cash is still the best way to say you care enough to let them get what they really want.

Lol, well, I have about 4 months to go till my first character will be two years old *My Warrior*. I was kinda-sorta hoping it wouldn't be minis, especially after seeing how many didn't want it to be that. But ah well, gotta live with whatcha get. I'm just hoping what I get this next time, will be something other than a white, I got a white Mini Siege Turtle last time lol. I'd love to get either a green Gwen, or a gold Water Djinn Mini, all the rest I've no interest in

*DARN I wish they had a Sylvari! They have an Asura now, but no Sylvari!!
