I expected this to happen. First Anet nerfs gold farming. But then they leave rares/greens/etc. exempt. Thus, now everyone who wants to farm is forced to farm things that fluctuate based on the market. So now everyone wants to sell ectos/rares/greens because it's the only source of income. But if everyone is selling these, the prices drop.
The rune situation amuses me the most. Superior vigor keeps falling. But minor vigor keeps getting more expensive. So... in an effort to halt gold inflation to make things better for casual players, Anet has made things cheaper for the rich and more expensive for the poor. GG.
The problem is that Anet thinks the amount of gold people have has a huge impact. It didn't, only on high-end stuff that no one needed (like ecto). In the time I'd been playing this game, things were only getting cheaper because things kept getting easier to acquire (especially with inscriptions and better salvaging). High supply outweighed gold inflation. Now it's easier than ever to get ecto, and harder than ever to get minor runes.
Back to ecto though, I'm pretty sure that ecto prices have always dipped temporarily when the boardwalk is open. It's only more noticeable now because ecto was dropping in price due to the farming changes.

That statement makes no sense.
I'm one of those poor players and I've been waiting for Superiors to drop in price for months. It doesn't matter to me if Minors rise in price because they drop the most in the wild.

When I first started playing (and was poor), I used minor vigors for a long time. And it's not just vigors. Minor strength, tactics, and swordsmanship are higher than I've seen them in a long while. So a newb who starts out a warrior would probably consider them expensive.
For example, my boyfriend has started playing through prophecies again on a new account, and wants to do it without me paying for everything. He is not happy about the rune prices. As for superior vigor, he wouldn't even think of getting it. Even though it's cheaper it's still way too expensive for him.
He's a casual player, I'm not. So I benefit, while he finds it harder to buy basic runes. I'm happy about ecto getting cheaper, since I'm working on getting FoW armor.
Edit: I don't think minors drop THAT much either during normal play. I haven't gotten a minor vigor in months, just lots of minor inspirations and whatnot... and this is despite the fact that I spent a lot of time playing or farming in areas that drop runes. But ecto, on the other hand, is very easy to get.

I doubt sup vig will drop too much. I think there will be a breakpoint(i think 15k) when its better to get sup than major so everyone buys sup, they go back up. During this time minor and major will drop.

Soooo.... does this mean that people are also taking more PUGs and balanced groups instead of lifeless WoW-like farming dweebs into places like FoW and UW these days, now that ecto farming isn't such a big deal?

It means that too many people are ecto farming. And when the price gets too low, people will farm something else until the ecto prices rise again, and then they'll go back to ecto farming. And chest running in FoW still seems quite popular.
Either way, I doubt everyone will suddenly decide to start questing in PUGs. I used to try that... it sucked. The only way to really go into FoW or UW with a balanced group is be in a guild that likes to do that. Otherwise, someone will always take the wrong quest at the wrong time.

Now, think about this, also, for a minute. If demand sinks, price at equalbium goes down, and quantity at equalbium goes down, too.
Although, if demand rises, the exact opposite happens. (Price at E goes up. and Q at E goes up.)
Now, this is the last law for this. If supply rises, Price at E sinks, & Q at E rises. (more goods. stauates the market. Price will go down.)
Although, if supply sinks, price at E rises, & Q at E sinks.
This can be attributed at any market good or service. (sorta like how there were so many forge runners at one point? And the price for a run went from 20k, to 2k?) The same thign is happened with the loot exceptions.
And there you have it. The law of supply and demand rules once again! (I should become an economics major. D: )

If only the public-at-large understood this, there would be significantly fewer threads whining about the ingame economy.
p.s. Studying economics is a pretty decent gig if you can grasp the material. I'm set to receive my M.A. degree this Saturday, and my first 'real' job starts off at 79k USD.

Have you been living under a rock? Try the www.guildwars.com update page? Everything that isn't white or purple or money is now exempt from farming code.

It was in the update notes for April 19th:

- Loot now scales according to party size.
- Repeated map entry no longer reduces loot.
- Made preparations for the Double Sunspear Points and Double Lightbringer Points weekend event.
- Removed the Wintersday 2006 Championship Trophy.
- Added the Celestial Tournament 2007 Championship Trophy.
- The Xunlai Tournament House NPC has returned to the Great Temple of Balthazar, Lion’s Arch, Kaineng Center, and Kamadan to reward players with their Celestial Tournament prizes.

So unless the coding doesn't work, that's how it should work.

Don't give me your attitude. You are confusing Farming Code and Loot Scaling. Loot Scaling will effect drops due to the amount of playes in your party. Farming Code is when you constantly zone back and forth through zones killing the same monsters.
"Repeated map entry no longer reduces loot." That's a total lie. Not only have I, but several friends have seen farming code still being activated. Want an example? here.
I've been farming the cupcakes since start of the event. I can get about 1-4 cupcakes a minute for the first 10-20 minutes through zoning. After which the droprate reduces significantly. after so long i'll get a cupcake after 5 runs. My one friend had a dry spell for 14 runs! I know this isn't just happening to me since me and a friend start solo farming at the same time and can notice the code hit us after the same amount of runs. He'll whisper to me his droprate per run. We both do the same run with the same build.

Tarus, you really need to look up and read. The two people on either side of unienaule pointed out the part that he's referring to.
Also, go and actually read the update notes.

NO obviously you need to read. I replied to their comment and have read the update notes. As stated in my last post the drop rate decrease's after constant farming the cupcakes. Now this change in the code to map entry may work on many other items but not on holiday ones, at least not these cupcakes. But don't take my word for it. Go out an farm cakes for a couple hours yourself.
