fwahahahah thats how a lot of us PvE folk felt every time we lost favor and can't get into the underworld/FoW... and that went on for two years >.<

Would you rather have "When it's done" or more Nightfall-release-quality crap from Anet? I vote for when it's done.

Excuse me, I said the announcement would come at Noon. It came at 1:00 PM Pacific, and I apologized for that delay AND for the delay to the system. I have no more to add.

This article was published April 5th. If you feel it should have been updated between then, and now, please take it up with the author. Take your questions to the author, as well. Frankly, I see a plan laid out in the April 5th article, I see involvement of the players in the testing, and I see a modest delay of less than two weeks beyond what was stated in April. But then, I don't see a plan as a promise, either.
I have already apologized on behalf of ArenaNet repeatedly. I have no more to say on the subject.

(And yes, honestly, prioritization must be the developer's call. Not everyone demanded reconnects at the top of their list, but reconnects really was a more critical addition than, say, storage increases.) So some on the team say, "Don't make a promise, don't even let players know we're working on something."
I disagree.
I'd rather you know we hear you, and are working on things you care about, even if we sometimes miss a deadline, as we did with the Automated Tournament System, or even if we get heat for not working on this one player's top "essential," or that other player's special request. I ask for timeframes all the time, and I like to give them to you because, when I was following games as closely as you follow Guild Wars today, I liked knowing what was coming, and I appreciated having some vague idea of what might be on the tracks, heading in my direction. We give the timeframes with the hopes that you'll understand if we might miss one. In fact, the ATS is delayed because we needed the team to work on some critical elements for GW:EN, so we had to make a shift in dates.
You probably have noticed we're not giving month or day deadlines as much any more. The ATS situation is one reason. We missed that date, plain and simple. Another thing to consider is that some players can leap to assume "You promised!" when we simply say we'll consider something or when we say "Maybe in a month" and it's longer.
Communication is a good thing -- we're committed to it as a company; I'm committed to it as a liaison. But please understand that we've never missed a game release date, never flubbed on a event release timeframe, and we've been adding a lot to the game over the last two years. I'm hoping that you can look beyond the extra time that we regretfully needed for the ATS and consider the system on its merits, once it is released.
|
Honestly after reading this post from you (partially because you quoted me ), I have far more respect from you and the company as a whole. you didnt sugar coat it and basically came out and said "Yes we missed it" and letting us know that our opinions and ideas are being heard and taken into consideration, even if they do come later than expected. That goes a lot farther than just giving some halfassed excuse as saying "well its comming" like has been done in the past.

Where I demanded/requested apology from ANet in previous post? I just pointed out the problem I saw.
As for the question, ok, I've sent an e-mail to Gills. But Michael Gills is ArenaNet Tournament Coordinator, isn't he? ANet is responsible for what he wrote/said. Unlike some outside authors, he's part of ANet.

Once we are sure everything is perfect, the tournaments will cost tournament tokens to enter and will reward in-game prizes. After that, in May, the Guild Wars $100,000 tournament series begins with real-world prizes.

Nowhere did he use 'will' or 'we're planning to' in this statement. Upon reading these lines, I/ppl got the impression/expected the ATS implementation was near completion and would go live soon.
Gills stated tournaments roll out in April for everyone to start testing and playing And you said it was merely a plan and ppl take these word wrongly? How dare you. The article was published on April 5th and it was already April.
Enough said. I have no more to say on the subject, too.

Hey Gaile!
I'm glad you replied to my topic. First of all, I'm also feeling more respect to ANet as a whole company because you clearly said "sorry, we just missed to get it finished 1st May".
For all of you who might wanna come complain here, understand that it's no use at all. They apologised for being late and hell... you can wait one more week to get a plain and bugless superb ATS up and running don't you all ?
Now a question to you Gaile, as you stated before, some people might have misunderstood some of the previous article(s), but upon reading the one from yesterday on the official site I read this:
Quote:
First, we still hope to roll out the automated tournaments this month, but only just barely. We hope to have them up and running next week. This means the official start of qualifier tournaments for the May championships in the $100,000 Tournament series will begin a bit later than we originally anticipated (most likely May 9) so we can do live testing during the first week of May.
|
This live testing, do you mean we can actually start playing ATS already this week? But just to see the system (with possible bugs) at work? With, off course no qualifier points nor reward points to buy the rewards the tournament npc will give us later on.
I just read (or misunderstood) the article and thought about it because when I checked the tournament npc and clicked on "view tournaments" I see a "test hvh" comming 5/2 (that's today right?). Registration started at 8.29gmt. But I checked to register this afternoon, I bought a tournament token but I had no where to click "register". I could only see "view" and look at the standings (from the beta ATS I presume).
I know you said I have nothing more to say about this subject, but I would be happy if you replied to this post.
Greetings,
Lyra

May I chime in, Lyre?
It was apparent there's live (and close?) test going. Some ppl on TGH talked about it.
It seems ANet(Izzy?) picked up some guilds to take part in the test.
ATM, it says registration begins at 5:04 am on 5/3/2007 (there's a bug/problem that the entry information is overwritten at the instant a tournament ends, thus older information such as date/time etc. is lost)
I believe ANet would announce when they decides to make it open live test and requests guilds to take part in it. (Stress test requires as much registrants as possible)

ooops, I missed this clever post.
on the 5th of april (http://www.guildwars.com/competitive...mpetitive2.php) it was written:
"Monthly Playoff matches take place during the last weekend of each month as listed below. Daily tournaments for the next monthly season begin at 07:00 GMT on the following Monday.
Season: May
Start Date: May 1
Playoff Date: May 26 & 27
Playoff Start Time: 19:00 GMT "
On a sidenote, let it be clear that I love ATS and can't wait to play them ^^

Hey unknown,
To make things clear I was talking about the 1v1 tournament. At the moment it says 8.30PM on 5/2/2007. I've been talking to some ppl in the 1v1 area and they all see it, can buy tournament tokens but cant register. But there's a strange thing about it. Apparently we have to register right? (assuming that it will be a live public test). Now what doesn't makes sense is that u can see 3 groups of 24 players who already FINISHED it. I assume that these entries were from the closed beta? So basically atm we can see a tournament which still has to start but already with the results lol .
Secondly what is TGH? Is it some other forum?
Thirdly, I know from the closed tests, but the gvg ones were last week and the 1v1 were even the week before that one. I haven't heard of ANet wanting more testers since last friday (27th of April).

Hi, Lyre.
First, TGH = The Guild Hall, other fan site which is heavily PvP(GvG) oriented.
Second, The GvG ATS Test I mentioned was done on live server. (according to TGH's thread)
Third, I checked HvH ATS test you mentioned. It must be done on live as well, because
1. Test server and live server are different entity and don't share transaction data.
2. All those listed are on the live ladder (eg. rank#91 one, who is rank#86 ATM)
I don't know how those ppl are selected/invited, maybe via #gwp (PvPers' irc channel)
ANet Dev must have some way to limit the registration or register ppl through some other way. That's why I stated it was closed live test. If it is open live one, anyone could've registered during registration period.

Well unknown,
You might be right about the closed test, but I'm not sure if it will be closed on live servers. The registration period starts (started?) at 8.30pm today. Now I don't know if the time automatically shows up on my time window, but if its 8.30gmt, that time has still to come for me.
Secondly, if you say that these ppl must have been 'privatly' invited. How do you explain that we can still see "registration period" and already see the results? I am pretty sure that when I first saw the tournament npc showing one tournament, it wasn't on for a long time. This means either there hasn't been a tournament yet or that must be a bug... Or did i miss any other explanation lol ?

Hi, Lyre
In case you missed my earlier post, there is a bug (if it is feature, it's very confusing and I wouldn't approve) regarding information window.
The 'beginning at 8.30pm today' tourney showed result of past tourney. (Maybe 0:30pm or so, no clue here). At the instant one tourney end, the upper information is overwritten by coming tournament's one. IMO, these should be separeted to avoid such confusion.

The nice thing is.....
"You will not yet be able to spend Tournament Reward Points, but in the future, Tolkano, the Tournament NPC, will allow you to exchange these points to upgrade the appearance of PvP items"
Ok now Gaile and others will hate me but, and as much as I love ATS and I was angry at the various pushbacks.... is it really so hard to make these ATS work entirely? -___-'' don't tell me that the bug-hunting is a matter involving also the artists that should have worked on the new skins? -______-''
