I agree with Perynne. Nowhere does it say that the OP wants them to change anything. Just because the development team is also human and like everyone appreciates compliments, the OP is "sucking up" to them?
For example, you said "Like I said, you're worried that the development team is 'depressed' by these forums, so your initiative was to lighten their moods, in hopes of it somehow having a positive effect on you in the future." Where on Earth/Tyria/Cantha/Elona do you get any justification for this comment? You can't prove anything in that statement except the fact that the OP was saying thank you. You should try giving without the hopes of getting back some time, because by the sounds of it that concept is inferior to you. That is what makes you sound uneducated, as educated as you may be.
You may not like handing out compliments, but some of us to. So here's a fat slapping double wammy (with cheese in the middle!) THANK YOU!

So there. Your focus is already on how they react to the forums, and their state of mind while working on this so-called 'great game'.

So what if the focus is on making the dev team more positive? Bashing them is more likely to make them stop reading the forum than it is to make them change something. One constructive post will trump ten flames every time.
My thanks to ANet for making such a fantastic game. The quality of the game would make a monthly fee completely justified, so thanks for making it so accessible.

The problem with these forums is that it's full of a bunch of Cindy Sheehans. They think that if there is something they don't like, they should be able to sit down with the president (of ANet), be able to name call AND have their thoughts acted on in a manner that pleases them.
Enjoy this sample post for the Cindy Sheehan types in Mad-Lib form:
----------------
Is it just me or does ANet hate the __(class)___ class? After the latest nerf to __(overpowered/overused skill)___ there is nothing left to do but delete my character. All they care about is __(either PvE or PvP)__ and the rest of us get ignored. I've emailed them several times about this problem and gotten NOTHING back. ANet is stupid for not listening to the fans, and will pay since I will now be leaving Guild Wars for WoW. Perhaps my next post will be a poll to see "who thinks ANet should get off their lazy asses?"
-----------------
Please, you may WANT the complaining to continue, but I think Gaile hit the nail on the head describing the type of personality that acts this way:
Quote:
There's absolutely no justification, and certainly no need, to abuse another forum member because "it's good for them" or "they need to read what I have to say" or or "it's the only way to get their attention," or "my idea is better," or "the company owes me and I can dish it out any way I want" or "I'm safely hidden behind my IGN, and demeaning others is the way I make myself feel important."

Personally, I think your use of Cindy Sheehan is incredibly insensitive and rude. She lost her son. There is no comparison to what is going on here.

I personally don't think it's either insensitive or rude, but I also respect your opinion. I don't think it's insensitive or rude because I'm not throwing dirt in the face of the loss of her son. I have plenty of empathy for that. I have personally known someone who lost their life in Iraq, I have many friends and even a Guild Officer stationed in Iraq, and our Country as a whole deals with loss of life of our soldiers every day. I no way shape or form would I ever make fun, or light of the loss of someone's life.
However, there is a very strong parallel in terms of Cindy Sheehan's, and many posters to these forum's feelings of entitlement. Regardless of what an organizations decision's effect on a person is, it does not give that person a greater right to be heard than any of the rest of us.
If the concept of my drawing that parallel offends you, because there is a death involved, the I respect that and you are entitled to your opinion. But I am also entitled to mine and while I empathize with the loss of life, I'm able to seperate the issue and find it patently rediculous that Cindy Sheehan feels she is entitled to the president's ear. Much the same as I find it rediculous that some feel $49.95 entitles them to a chair at the ANet developers conference table.

Was there really no better analogy to use than using Cindy Sheehan? It really hits close to home for a lot of people, Burn Butt.

Nothing comes to mind. That is why I used it. Hey, she put herself in the public eye and has some pretty strong opinions. She doesn't seem to mind offending a lot of people, and I respect and would fight for her right to do so. Likewise, if my opinion offends you, I'm sorry it does. But the analogy holds, I can't walk around worrying about who I might offend either.

Okay. Logically:
1) You would fight for Sheehans right to be heard, and by your own comparison also those forum whiners which constitute a small but vocal percentage of this forum.
But what is this?

Hm, so you want to mock and in so doing invalidate and deny Sheehan and the forum posters here who are a small but vocal percentage of this forum? I have heard those words before, I will fight to protect your right to say things, but never given with a collary that "oh, well, as long as it is what I think is proper and not ridiculous".
Irrespective of right or wrong, Sheehan and the posters of this forum have a venue to speak their mind. What you are saying is that as long as they agree with you, then their ideas, methods, and opinions are OK. If they do not, then they are not. Think bro. Publicity stunt = unreasonable demands. Stop watching CNN and their analysis of the news.
As to how that relates here, then try and imagine what would motivate someone to post that "nerd rage" quit message. They are probably young, or insecure, or just mad as heck. For the young, that is a stage of development where they do not have the maturity yet to see middle ground. For the insecure, it is a bad response but the best they have. For those mature and mad who post a rage-quit, then yeah go ahead and mock them.
How can you tell the difference? You can't. They all look alike.
You're going after the kids and the insecure as well as the adults who are just behaving badly. What other forum do they have?
Thanks!

I would like to thank specificly, Gaile Grey who actually has the misfortune to deal with the ungrateful people on this and other boards.
Most of these people don't realize that A-Net does what's best for their game. If it's not what you want. then play a different game.

Sorry but these comments just couldnt go unchallanged. How dare you lable the whole HA community as ungrateful when anet are clearly in the wrong. If i went and messed up your pve what would you say. Oh thank you anet. I think not. So please dont even talk on topics you obviously have no idea about because you only make yourself look stupid, its like defending a priminister who has commited horrid war crimes. The HA community when anet first messed up sat back and told them how to fix it. Why is it 9 months later these changes we asked for came but even then we had kill count which totaly ruins and imbalances HA. What are you on drugs or something, because if you are it would explain why you think 9 months is not a long enough time to start making people frustrated which results in anet not deserving a thank you.
You obviously are secluded from the rest of the gw world such as HA so before you go commenting please educate yourself first. And just to let you know, anet did fail the whole HA communty, dont believe me eh, then go check the polll for 8v8. It was like 50 percent wanted 8v8 back and like 20 wanted 6v6. Check the kill count poll, 75 percent want kill count completly removed. Explain to me then please how this is not exactly failing the community being kill count has been here for so long now. If i was a singular person in terms of not liking HA at the moment. I wouldnt be so botherd if anet changed HA and i was the only one who didnt like it and everyone else did. Fact is everyone else hates it and so this is not me not getting what i want but the community not getting what they want. Why should i have to play a different game when i spent the same amount of cash on it as you did for changes which many players like me dont even want.
If anet wanted everyone to adpot this attitude then they would be bankrupt, it would be like oh soul reapin got nurfed so ok im quiting. Exactly, i hope you've seen the light now and this has made you realise you shouldnt run your mouth when you dont realise what your even saying. What they have done to the HA communty has not been the best for the game, thats why many top pvp guilds have disbanded, and many players have quit. Thats why many of my remaining pro HA friends playing are guildless because they find it hard to find a stable pvp guild. You call that the best for guild wars. If you do all i can say is your already lost in the world of denial.
And as for Galie, how many times does she replie to the HA community so to be honest shes not even dealing with us as you claim. Secondly, did you just say ungrateful again? Well im sorry for not being a sponge like you and accepting cheep stupid changes like the ones made to halls. You dont get ripped of by your bank because of a mistake and sit there not complaining do you. Rather you fight for your money back, can that not be classed as ungratefulness to. Im not ungrateful, im just angry along with the many other players of the HA community.
And as for thanking anet, can i thank anet for ruining HA and pvp. Wouldnt that just be moronic. Anet dont deserve any thanks and definately wont be getting any untill they fix HA and start producing the quality along with it as that had been doing since propochis up untill the release of 6v6.

I think this topic is going a little off-topic now, but I have to respond. You seem to forget the fact that these forums aren't a representation of the entire community. Just because people here are complaining, doesn't mean everyone is. I don't pretend to know about HA, but what I do know is that
the players ON THESE FORUMS are certainly acting like a bunch of children.
Frankly, you should be grateful that ArenaNet actually take the time to read the forums. There aren't many other game companies out there who do. It is utterly childish and annoying when people take the "if I don't get what I want, stfu!" attitude towards others, which is what is generally happening to Anet. If I were an ANet employee I wouldn't take any of the suggestions seriously just because people don't know how to act civil. After all, how can an idea be a good one when the one/ones who thought of it act as if the World (or in this case ANet) owes them something.
If you can't find anything to have thanks for, thank them for the "old" HA then. By the sounds of your post it was utterly perfect then, which obviously means you must have been having a good time.

Tabasco, you're reading WAY too deep into what I was saying. I don't think you can find anywhere in what I have posted ever, the idea that I think people should NOT be allowed to post what they want. I've never advocated for a thread to be closed, an account to be banned or an opinion to be stiffled. Quite the contrary. I am 100% all about freedom of speech in the constitutional sense (all the way until speech breaks the law, such as shouting FIRE in a crowded theater).
What I have said is that I hope ANet knows that the good majority of people support their product and their efforts, even if we don't post all the time. I've said that I think some people are rediculous, rude, childish, etc. etc. but have never called for them to be silenced. I don't think that Sheehan has the "right" to instruct the president because she lost a son. Perhaps it's too polarizing a topic, but I find it analogous to Guild Wars players who feel they have the "right" to instruct the development team because they paid money for the game. I think it's silly and absurd. That doesn't have to be your opinion.
So let me ask you. Do you support my right to make the analogy, even if you disagree with it or find it insensative?

Amen Lydz! And my biggest concern is that ANet reads these forums and walks away thinking that players of Guild Wars have a negative view of everything. God knows we've seen Gaile exhibiting unusual levels of stress in this direction lately. I would imagine that if taken up a notch of negativity, that Gaile would stop reading the forums, and then where would we be? What's happening is that slowly ANet is being disconnected from the TRUE community by a negative force on these boards through a method of attrition. Slowly but surely, those of us who care about this game and have grown to love it, are being wedged out by those that would prefer to flame and complain.
Constructive criticism? I'm all for it! But how in the world can men and women of logic look at some of these posts and comments as constructive? How many forums are titled ANET FIX BROKEN "X". I open the forum to find out nothing is actually "broken" but instead someone has writen an opinion laced with hate, spite and self-centered words.
Anyway, ANet, I hope you know we're out here, and that we do love you guys!

I think these mindless supporters of Arenent are just afraid we, the complainers, would ruin their idol's image. So they hope creating enough number of Arenet-praising threads will change that. I think most of the complaints here are valid for Arenet to find where the problems are in order to fix them. I love GW and Arenet but it does not mean that I should always thank them for whatever they do to GW and that I should stop complaining about what I don't like.
If Arenet feel so depressed when reading our complaints and will eventually ignore them all like you mindless supporters believe, expect sales of future products from Arenet will go no where.
You can keep thanking Arenet for whatever they do, but please stop bashing those who complain.

HA! Imagine that. A proud complainer who doesn't like people complaining about him. Go figure. And you call me mindless?
You have a legit complaint? No one here has a problem with that, in fact I would encourage constructive criticism. No one has a problem with that.
You want to flame the developers and include smite and threats? I say grow up and remember your place in the grand scheme of things.
